I was not thrilled with this product. I tried it once a long time ago and used the jar and remember thinking it wasn’t what I was expecting. I decided to try it again due to my skin having a rough time recently due to an allergic reaction. I needed something super sensitive and moisturizing and really wanted to give this another shot. It definitely feels nice and cool and light on the skin; especially when it’s dry and needing some serious TLC. I will say that it didn’t burn my skin nearly as much as some of the other products I tried; I only had a minimal stinging and it went away quickly. At first it really seems like it is going to be super hydrating and I got really excited. Once it was absorbed into my skin though it didn’t feel moisturizing or hydrated at all! ... MoreI was not thrilled with this product. I noticed I would put more on after the first application because my skin was still so dry and just desperate for a good moisturizer that truly quenched my skin. This was not it. I went through this product so quickly because of having to use more then I expected to try and make my skin get some relief and moisture. Unfortunately I have to say this is not worth the money and not the product I had hoped it would be.

It was cooling, soothing, absorbed fabulously, and never felt heavy on my skin, which was congested and dehydrated at the time. Since then my skin’s needs have changed and this gel doesn’t aid me in the way it did. My preferred delivery method for hyaluronic acid is now The Ordinary’s Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2%. One extremely important thing to note is that any product with hyaluronic acid like this one needs to be applied while the skin is still wet, because the function of hyaluronic acid is to bind to existing water molecules and act as a humectant. In general it’s better not to dry your skin before using any moisturizer in order to allow it to seal in the moisture. Those who dry their skin before moisturizing also tend to use a washcloth or towel to do so, and unless you literally deep clean these cloths right before each use, they will quickly and easily become breeding grounds for bacteria, and also collect dust and other particles that could irritate your skin or clog your pores.

Delivers on the boost!
14 November 2022

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when receiving this product, as many claim to help rejuvenate your skins hydration, while leaving you underwhelmed. This however left both my skin and I jumping for hydration joy. During the colder months especially, my hands get very dry and chapped and I am always looking for something to combat this and keep them supple and smooth. This gel delivers on both. Not only does it have a light texture that is easily absorbed, but it keeps my hands moisturised ALL day thanks in part to its Hyaluronic Gel Matrix; locking in that hydration while continually releasing it throughout the day when your skin needs it. In short this is something I will be adding to my skincare routine to help my skin lock in that extra moisture especially during the colder winter months.

Gave me a chemical burn once and frequently caused breakouts over months of use
27 November 2022

This was working decently for me but it is a placebo type of moisturizer. I was also simultaneously using an actual hyaluronic acid serum. All my positive effects were due to the serum. Also I had near constant breakouts when using this. Using the elimination method I removed this and sure enough I have no breakouts now. The product contains dye and fragrance so that is definitely the cause. The cream version doesn’t contain fragrance. Also, I had one very unusual and terrible experience. One time after washing my face after the gym I put this on my face after I had cooled down and this product gave me a chemical burn that took 3-4 days to recover from. The fact that this burned my face even once is too much for me. I am now only using hyaluronic serum and mixing it with differin moisturizer and no longer see the purpose of this product in my routine so I will no longer purchase it. Knockoff, Not Neutrogena, Do NOt Buy!

NOT Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel! I have used the water gel since it came out and this is not it! The store did not have it in stock, so I ordered through the vendor(normally I don’t, but ratings were good). Well, I should have stuck to my gut. As you can see from my photos (real on left/larger jar, knockoff on right/smaller jar), they are not the same. This one I received is a smaller jar when it’s supposed to have 1.7oz of product, the jar is a greenish color, the top is a different texture, the writing is all different(no directions, ingredients, product info etc. like the real one has.) and there is no protective cover on the inside of the jar. Then there are the barcodes. Not even the one on the box! Now if it were a real Neutrogena product, the barcode on THEIR packaging would pull up THEIR item.Fake, do not buy! Needless to say, I will not be putting this on my skin as I have super sensitive skin already. And I had bought this as my backup and then didn’t work for months, so I was home and wasn’t doing skincare multiple times a day and now it’s too late to return.

My fav moisturizer!
25 June 2023

I hate lotions or anything that feels like its trapping my skin with a layer of oil or leaves it greasy. That obviously applies to my face as well. Most moisturizers are heavy, and while they ate effective, they're just not right for me. Neutrogena's Water Based Gel is incredible though! It is extremely hydratinf and plumps my skin, but is almost completely absorbed within minutes. It leaves my skin feeling silky and smooth and not like I have a layer of, well...lotion on it. I use a satin pillowcase, and it is dry enough within just a couple minutes to lay down and not feel like I'm sticking to the pillowcase. If you have any sensory adversities to traditional moisturizers, this is a godsend. So lightweight and absorbent. I've tried several other water-based and they have not given me the same results or the same lightweight feel and absorbency. This is definitelt my #1.

Perfect Product, If You Know How To Use It, Knowing Your Skin Type
23 July 2022

It pays to understand product usage and your skin type. I have an over-all dryer complexion so I lotion my body daily and moisturize my face every 2-3 days. 1. The product tells the user to utilize AFTER HAVING CLEANSED YOUR FACE. Not following these steps will result in clogged dirty pores and more acne.2. You CAN use this product for targeted dry spots you just need to use less. This product, although appears to not contain a lot, goes a long way with just enough to cover your index finger. You really don't need a lot or else again, you're caking your face and over-moisturizing it. This will also cause acne. If you exfoliate daily then use this product you will get acne. Plain and simple. You're opening your pores, jamming moisture into them, and NOT expecting acne? Come on now. Wash your face gently, exfoliate weekly. Moisturize every 2-3 days. Patience is key and you most likely won't get immediate results from *any* product sold for $30.4. Results. I could feel a difinitive difference almost immediately. Product is in fact lightweight and I only needed a 1/4 of a dime size to cover my face. Again, a little goes a long way. Within a week and a half (because it's not meant to be used daily unless you've got severe dryness), My face didn't just FEEL healtheir it looked fuller, more hydrated and when I get my shark week is around the only time I'll see a baby surprise zit on my face (this is normal, it's called hormones silly).I feel as though individual's expectations are so high. I assure you that you'll never find "the golden product" that works year-round. During the winter I won't be using it because for whatever reason, my face is not nearly as dry. If you're looking for a fix-all raise your budget to $80-$150 and consult a dermatologist. Or get botox.

Smells awful!

I have oily skin & recently bought the only option on the shelf of the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Moisturiser which was the fragrance free version for dry skin.My oily skin has been getting on with that version just fine.I keep some skincare downstairs - in order to take my time over cleansing & moisturising in the evenings and some upstairs for the mornings and I needed a pot of moisturiser that I was happy with for upstairs. My local Boots was fairly empty shelf wise which is normal and they had none of the fragrance free for dry skin so I picked up the fragranced one for oily to combo skin instead. This was a fail. I can't advise on how well it moisturises as the scent has put me right off. It's horrible smelling and lingers too.I won't be buying this again ... MoreI have oily skin & recently bought the only option on the shelf of the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Moisturiser which was the fragrance free version for dry skin.My oily skin has been getting on with that version just fine.I keep some skincare downstairs - in order to take my time over cleansing & moisturising in the evenings and some upstairs for the mornings and I needed a pot of moisturiser that I was happy with for upstairs. My local Boots was fairly empty shelf wise which is normal and they had none of the fragrance free for dry skin so I picked up the fragranced one for oily to combo skin instead. This was a fail. WATER GEL MOISTURIZER BETTER THAN CREAMS OR LOTIONS BY FAR

Neutrogena products have always been one of my top favorite brand. Going as far back to the original Neutrogena Rainbath Shower Gel the product I believe was the beginning of the myriad of quality products they make today. Neutrogena Water Gel feels so refreshing when you put it on, the coolness & texture is unlike any moisturizer I've ever used before or since. It's wonderful for Menopausal women experiencing hot flashes because it cools your face instantly without leaving a greasy oily film that melts off your face like many typical moisturizers do. My Mom & I have said more than once that we wish we could fill the tub & bath in it since its so refreshing & leaves your skin feeling soft & looking natural & renewed. Neutrogena saved us from that expense (lol) & created a body lotion that is just as refreshing. I would recommend the whole Hydro Boost line to anyone who wants plump youthful looking skin & is tired of the same old style of creams & lotions. (I want to note, Im not being paid to leave this review. My review is genuine & honest.)
