The sneaker combines the original’s multi-material upper with the sole unit from New Balance’s 860v2, for a slightly updated look. Originally launched as a hyper-premium, $250 running shoe that drew inspiration from luxury automobiles and watches, the 2002 was designed with then-New Balance CEO Rob DeMartini in mind.
