traction I need. After a couple of months, I usually add a Dr. Scholl's combo foam/charcoal insole. The fact it is made in the USA is a plus for me.

I was recently disappointed that the maximum width for a 993 size 8 is a 4E and that width was too tight for me. I liked the appearance of quality in the 993 a bit more than the 990v6, but since the 990v6 size 8 has a 6E width that fits better that is what I purchased. Since I recently purchased a new treadmill and wanted to dedicate using my new 990v6 shoes for that, I thought it worth again trying the 993 but this time in a size 8.5 4E width. I was surprised to discover that the 993 size 8.5 4E fits me exactly the same as my 990v6 size 8 6E width. The outside length appears identical. Both my 993 and 990v6 have a great feel and seem to be very high quality. I don’t have any long-term experience with them, but giving them both 5 stars for the fit, feel, and ... The good: I like them a lot, they're incredibly comfortable and so far seems like great quality. And what's not to love about Made In USA?The bad: NB shoes in my experience have really weird sizing that varies between shoes. I measure an M8.5 on a Brannock device. I bought a pair of 574s in 8.5, only to find after a while that my feet hurt cause they're a bit too short. So I bought a 9 in these, only to find after a while of wearing them that they're a bit too large. Needless to say I'm really upset I wasted so much money on subtly weird sizes of shoes.

My son has a very wide foot and has difficulty finding a shoe to fit him and support a healthy gait. We usually shop at NewBalance in London, ON, Canada, which is about an hour east of us. They do a computer map of his foot and then can tell him which shoe will work best for him. I have always loved this store and their staff. Unfortunately this time we were informed that New Balance no longer ships their US made shoes to Canadian Suppliers, and as such, we could not get these shoes in Canada. We ordered them from the London store (online via my own device), from the USA website. Subsequently, we had to cross the border to Port Huron to pick them up from a US Shipping depot, which added about $25 or so to the total cost tolls and depot fees… which is still less than ... Best brand of sneakers I've ever owned. Best fitting, lightweight, well cushioned, most comfortable, very supportive, and long lasting. Great for walking, jogging, and every day wear. Fantastic for long walks or jogging on the boardwalk, walking around parks, as well as everyday use. I've been wearing New Balance my entire adult life and it's been the best brand for me. The most proper fitting, supportive, and comfortable active wear sneakers enable years of activity without knee or other types of injury due to correct body alignment. With the right size, they will very comfortably accommodate professionally made customized orthotics. The various widths make this possible. This is the most underrated shoe that NB has. I am an elementary teacher and standing on my feet for more than 10 hours a day and my feet feel fine after a long day of work. I also took them on vacation where I was walking 20k steps a day and my feet did not feel any discomfort at the end of the day. They do feel a little tight the first few days but the shoes relax and mold to your feet quickly. Although new technology like ENCAP has overshadowed these, ABZORB technology is no slouch, in some ways I prefer these over my 990 v3's. The shoe is great for wide toe spread, very supportive for standing in the same place for long periods of time, stability is outstanding and an incredibly versatile shoe to go from work casual to the gym but I would not go running long ... Wanna Replace ‘em, but Just Can’t

I have tried twice to replace my 993’s with both the Fresh Foam Vongo and the and the Fresh Foam 1080, and both attempts were failures. The 993 simply has the support and the control that the softer shoes do not, and I have had to relegate both pairs of Fresh Foams to something other than running. I do agree that the 993 is overpriced, and it really can only be because it is one of the premier running shoes in New Balance’s inventory. I hate paying $200+ for any shoe, but I hate not being able to run a whole lot more. I wish New Balance would do us all a solid and make us feel about 50 bucks better about loving their shoes for so long. do

Wide is not true to size

I’ve been on the hunt for comfortable wide shoes with a flare of style. I was hoping these would be the one but the process has been a nightmare. These shoes in wide are not true to size. They seem to run REALLY long. I’m a size 10.5, it’s way too long fit more like a 11/11.5. I ordered a size 10 it’s slightly better but still big. Now I have to place a third order a 9.5 to really gauge the best size. Since no one has these in stores it’s an extremely long process and I can’t wear the other one in case I have to return it. Be prepared to potentially spend $600 on three pairs of shoes and invest time either driving to a store to return the extras or arranging for UPS returns.I’m close to just giving up.
