A great shoe for overpronation and wide feet!
I was so pleased to discover New Balance as a new option for a running shoe for me. I was previously loyal to another brand for many years, however, over the past year or so, either my foot changed size and/or shape, and/or they changed the structure and design of their shoes to where I can no longer find a size that works for me. Much to my surprise, a shoe salesman in an orthopedic shoe store recommended New Balance (it's the only brand they sell), and he specifically recommended the X860v12 to correct for my overpronation. I was thrilled that this shoe fit me so well and felt great from the get-go without any orthotic inserts, as my previous custom orthotics needed to be replaced, and my health insurance no longer covers them. I have bought 3 pair and would probably buy a 4th if more preferred color combos were still available in my size. My only complaint about this shoe is the shoelaces, which repeatedly came undone during my work-outs. It was really annoying to have to keep stopping and re-tying them. I ended up having to switch out the laces for laces from my previous running shoes by a different manufacturer. Not an ideal situation, since I'm very much into color coordination, and the replacement laces don't match. I'm hoping that New Balance will take my review into consideration, and make future versions of this fantastic shoe with better laces that stay in place. Other than that, I'm a totally happy camper, and plan on sticking with this brand.... Show more

A great shoe with plenty of support
I wear sports shoes almost all the time. This was about my 10th pair of 860s; my 4th pair of size 2E (previously was a D fitting). The shoes are a great fit and very comfortable. They are very supportive.Just a couple of minor issues - the laces are quite short compared to previous 860 versions. This makes it hard to open the shoe sufficiently to put on without the laces coming out of the eyelets. Also makes the laces hard to do up.Secondly, in the 2E fitting, there's only black, black or black. Some different, lighter colours would be great.... Show more

Difference between right and left shoe.
This is about the 4th pair of New Balance 860 that I have ordered on-line. They have always fit perfectly. This time, the right shoe is a bit roomy. I tried an insole but it still moved on my foot as I walked. I changed to heavier socks which is good for now but come warmer weather, won't be. This is not something I noticed until I was actually out for my walk and using a longer stride than you would ever use inside. The left shoe is perfect.... Show more

Fit great but overall not sure.
I purchased a pair via online as no local stores had my size available.Upon recieving the shoes, I noticed they insoles were different to my last pair. As it has the Fresh Foam in them. Not sure if I had ordered the wrong shoe altogether or its what is in the newer range (my old pair is several years old). The fit is perfect but feel my foot starts to sweat a lot quicker and my toes hurt a little bit after awhile. Even though they are not squashed.I haven't worn them outside at all as I am scared that they are not 100% right.I used the lace lock but feel my feet are slightly loose in the runners after awhile so I have to redo my laces. So that is a big part to why I am not confident to wear them outdoors yet.I think next time, I will just go in store and see ... Great fit
These shoes fit great (I bought them in wide width) and the toe box is comfortable also. Really good arch support and cushioning. I bought these to wear to work because I work 12 hour shifts, and my feet are flat, so I need something that fits really good and has great support, all of which this particular shoe has. Not sure if this particular style has the medial post in it, which most supportive New Balance has, but I feel like they don't because after a few hours, my ankles start hurting and rolling "inward" which is why I chose to stick w/New Balance in the first place. One thing I did not like when choosing to purchase this shoe, is the description of the shoe does not give you enough information as it would have in the past. Nevertheless, I really like this ... Please be sure to include everything about the shoe in the description area; whether is supportive or neutral so that the buyer is able to make an informed decision on their purchase before spending their money.... I'd forgotten what comfortable felt like...
When I was trying to decide if an 'E' width shoe was for me I was worried that I'd end up with a 'bulb' on the end of my feet reminiscent of clown shoes. I'd been wearing 'D' for some time with good results but my feet were still tired at the end of the day. Then they were delivered and my heart sank because it was slightly bulb-esque. But... the moment I put them on my whole body sighed. They were just... roomy. And nice. And so easy and comfortable to wear. I think I'd forgotten what comfortable actually felt like. Once they're on your feet they don't look so bulby and I haven't had a single person glance down at my feet since I started wearing them, so other people certainly aren't commenting (or even noticing). It's going to be hard to go back from "E", I must say. Because these were new line, they are priced accordingly and it's more than I would usually pay for a shoe but I've worn them every day since so clearly I'm going to get use and wear out of them. Better spent than some 'D' that are languishing in my wardrobe. No regrets.... Show more

Nice shoe but runs short
I have been wearing New Balance for decades. I enjoy a nice powerwalk 5 days a week and love roam the botanical gardens and the occasional amusement park. My women's size 12 wide foot is hard to fit so I normally buy men's, even in New Balance, because they just feel better. I've been wearing men's 1080's ever since their inception because I love the fresh foam!! I decided to try these 860's because along with my big wide foot it's also quite flat so these had the foam and the stability!! Well, I ordered 4 pairs during the black friday period. This solid black pair and the dark teal ran a half size too short. I kept the other 2 colors but after several wearings, I find them too ""stable"", if that makes sense. They caused pain in my hips even with my orthotics! I ... MoreI have been wearing New Balance for decades. Perfect for Me
Used for summer fitness walking. Have a 8B fit foot on machine but this is MY Goldilocks size for in this brand/style where the 9B Fitting was too narrow at toes (has rigid strengthening here). The size 9 "extra" length is to ensure thumb width room beyond toes and the D width is necessary to ensure that foot spread on toe off is not compromised causing compression over time. Having recovered from over 2 years extreme pain & restriction from a Morton's Neuroma in the metatarsal area to be protected from further insult. BTW i commonly wore 7.5 to 8 B Nike, Saucony, and Asics as a runner 30 years ago and feel that I paid the price from many Kms of training. Also this shoe doesnt feel so controlling/ rigid as does a Asics Cumulus and overall would prefer that Nike Free ... MoreUsed for summer fitness walking. This style is comfortable and cushioning at least for medium paced long trail walks. (And I loved this light aqua colour-way for summer)... Show more

Will hurt and damage your outer toes and nails
Bought these for my wife after she tried it in store for fit and selecting the color she wanted online. The size and width fit correctly. Remember the shoe fits correctly but due to the variation of material flexibility on the upper shell this condition persists. In essence the shoe wearer will develop cones even if the shoe fits.(upper and outer left and right parts of the shoes, the hard-shell material with the NB logo). Why put such an issolated hard material on an otherwise flexible web by the toe area?Design and comfort on the rest of the shoe is great. In my opinion I would do away with that hard plastic and preserve customer comfort. Does not work for the function of the shoe and not worth continued damage and issues with the toes. Will be returning for a refund.... Show more
