A Good Trade Name, A Good Look.

Lucky me, these are a pair of shoes, unlike some others that I have purchased, that immediately feel just right. I do both trail running and several days at a gym per week. The shoes work for me with a variety of different types of exercise. Must admit that initially I bought these shoes for the way that they look. At the gym I notice, that shoes are sort of a trademark, people definitely use shoe apparel as one way of expressing themselves. Functionality should always come first but it helps to have a pair of lookers on your feet.

I can wear a 2E with the NB 857 and 608 but I needed the 4E with the Hierro v7. I've worn it once so it's too early to know much about quality and durability but the fit works for me. With a wide foot I don't have many options for shoes but NB usually has something I can wear. I would like to see NB offer a trail runner like the Hierro with a drop from zero to 5 mm and a stack height from 25 to 28 mm. That would really float my boat.

Great for extra wide feet

These shoes have become my go-to sports shoe. The fact that they come in an extra wide is a rare find, and I bought two additional pairs after using the first one for 6 months.. I use them for softball, golf and hiking, and they excel at each. I would love more color options, as the black is pretty boring. If you have extra wide feet, you should purchase them. There aren't many options to choose from and these are extremely comfortable and well built.

New Balance Foam Fresh Hierro v7 are Amazing
2 February 2023

These New Balance Foam Fresh X Hierro v7 Trail Running shoes are so incredibly light weight, sturdy, good looking, well fitting and unbelievably comfortable, it's amazing ! No pronation, supreme cushioning. The tongue is sewn in place so it doesn't slide all around. The eyelets are very solid and easy to thread your laces. Has a large heel tab to grab to pull your shoes on quickly. And have I mentioned just how comfortable the cushioning is ?!!! I am so impressed with New Balance, that I ordered another pair in a different color combo. Try them on for comfort and see what I mean ! You'll get a pair too !

Not the same as other brands 2E wide fit
13 February 2024

I purchased these shoes online to use trail running, however I found them to be too narrow. The shoes measured 5cm narrower than my Asics 2E road shoes. If you have wider feet or are used to other brands 2E like Hoka or Asics then you'll find these shoes to be a poor fit. I can not fault the staff at the athlete's foot as they did everything they could to refund and find a better fitting trail runner for me.

Pretty great
25 November 2023

I have maybe 100 miles on my first pair now. I am thankful to New Balance for (finally) again providing 15 4E trail runners. I think these are pretty great.1) vibram2) stable3) not excessively cushy, which for me causes stability problems4) they have stood up to wear and tear very wellCompared to the older King of the Mountain (which fail early due to stitching problems), these have held up well.

Really good shoe if you have wide feet and a high instep
1 December 2023

I have really wide feet and a high instep, and this shoe fits just snug for me. There are other shoes like the Nike Downshifter 12 4E which can accommodate my feet, but I prefer the really soft cushioning of these shoes. Be careful when walking on carpet though, these are really grippy shoes. That said, these shoes are great for running on grass because of the grip, and absorb the shock from ground well. These shoes aren't waterproof, though, so if you're looking for waterproof shoes, look elsewhere. Driving with these shoes are ok for me. You don't feel as much with the cushioning, but doesn't affect my driving much.

Ruined Hierro shoe with v7
22 January 2024

The v7 is horrible. The sole on bottom was "upgraded" to add additional cushion but significantly reduces durability of shoe. Started falling apart on me after 60 miles. Hierro v6 is awesome, last me 350-500miles, I don't know why New Balance decided to no longer have hard plastic on entire bottom sole on v7; ruined my favorite shoe.:(

tongue trouble
16 November 2023

I've used the Fresh Foam Hierro for several years and have been happy with them in the past, but this v7 tongue design is highly flawed. This version lacks the elastic stitching/material that holds the tongue in place. After about 1/4 mile on the trail I knew I was in trouble.. I looked down and the tongue had slid all the way to the side, I could see my socks through the laces. I returned them with no trouble and a full refund. Now I'm searching different brands, which I haven't had to do in a long time.Jason
