For my experience the 880 v14 has a lot to be desired and needs a lot more work to make it a competitive shoe especially at its price point . 1st should not feel rubber through the shoe if it’s a workhorse firm cushion felt more like no cushion underfoot . 2nd mesh should not be scratchy at the price asking point should be a better quality material . Let’s just say midsole and upper was not what was expected and needs work for a shoe that’s supposed to be a workhorse and a quality longevity shoe for mileage…

880s not my shoe anymore

Since my order was cancelled, I took my current pair of 880s (which I ordered on Amazon, and now suspect were fakes because the heel wore out so quickly) to the Costa Mesa location, and was one of five customers in the store with three store employees helping people. Sorry New Balance, your new shoes don't seem to have the same quality I've enjoyed in the past, and while I love the fact their from MA, and some are made in the USA, and your new store is pretty, the quality still matters most.

First Pair of Running Shoes

This are my first pair of running shoes that I actually researched about before buying. I actually watched several videos of people talking about them. I’ve been using them for 2-3miles run for a about a month and so far I have no complains. They were also a lot lighter than I thought they would be. Definitely an upgrade from my past old running shoes, I’m very happy with them. My only dislike was that they don’t come in many colors, I’m a very pink girl and when I saw there wasn’t a pink option I was a bit disappointed. Other than aesthetic purposes, they shoes are really good.

Good shoes, but sizing issues and a 1080 complaint
13 March 2024

I've been runnning in 880s for a long time. The new ones seem good, though I'm not sure how much I like the extra foam. That said, the sizing of NB shoes drives me crazy. I wear a 10.5 in the 1080s; 11 in the 880s; and 10 in the 877 walking shoe. BUT, the inner soles for all of these shoes is exactly the same. Why not be consistent in your sizing? I do appreciate that these shoes come in 4E, since that's the only width that doesn't hurt my feet. Finally, I can report that running in the 1080s gave me knee pain for the first time (runner's knee). Overall, though, I have a positive view of NB shoes.

Great fit, X-Wide availability, stylish, elegant
30 October 2024

First off, it's great that New Balance provides the X-Wide fit. Thank you! I'm on my feet walking, standing and climbing stairs for 7-8 hours at a stretch. I tried other brands that came highly recommended but I was surprised to find they don;t have X-Wide sizes and their Wide sizes are rather narrow in the toe box, and I ended up with aching feet. I ordered the Fresh Foam X 880v14 and the Fresh Foam X 860v14, both in X-Wide (2E) 8.5. The specifications of both these models are almost identical except that the Fresh Foam X 860v14 has the stability feature. The Fresh Foam X 880v14 upper is flexible and comfortable and the "Grey Matter with Raincloud and Reflection" is a beautiful, stylish and elegant color. I was so tempted to keep both pairs! Perfect walking shoe, but signs of wear already.
10 June 2024

For me personally I rate these shoes a 4.5/5. Straight out of the box they fit my foot perfectly. The only thing I worried about was the heel fit a bit tight when trying on at the store but didn't have any issues when wearing them. Bought the day before leaving for a 3 week trip to Europe. Was able to put on and go, no need for breaking in. I use these shoes for walking, but did not out a lot of miles on them. The reason for dropping a star is after only 3 weeks I am already seeing tearing the fabric around the upper lace holes along with tearing if the fabric of the inserts. I would hope that for $150 plus they wouldn't show signs of tearing after less than a month of use. I can imagine if someone is using these shoes for running that the issues in the fabric would ... MoreFor me personally I rate these shoes a 4.5/5. Straight out of the box they fit my foot perfectly. But overall a great shoe for me. **I hope you release better colors as the colors for the women's shoes are horrible. I would like to buy another pair but only if more colors are released.

Plantar facsiitis-tarsal tunnel pain nearly gone!
11 July 2024

I recently got these on a recommendation to help with my plantar fasciitis. Despite what my Podiatrist told me, the custom orthotics, thicker soft heels and sterpid injects didn't help or fit the problem, but gradually made them worse. So after some research, I decided to try the opposite, and go for something that would treat me feet similarly to like I'm walking barefoot. Since my pain was generally less when barefoot. So I looked for shoes with little to no heel drop that was still somewhat soft but not too soft, and just use the inserts that come with the shoes. Also, getting the extra wide (2EE) toe box to let my feet have the space to spread out like they are suppose to when we walk.OH MY GOSH!!!! My feet felt 90-95% better immediately!! I think if they were, my pain would be resolved within a few weeks or a couple of months, and the possibility of surgery would be off the table.

Too wide with Pronated Design
26 October 2024

I have a narrow foot but I like room the toe box. Seems like a losing combo. At first these seemed okay, but they're just too wide everywhere but the toe box. Especially if you have a narrow foot. They also forced both my big toes to bump up into the upper. It's become super difficult to find narrow shoes these days, especially if you're a woman with long feet who's about 100 miles away from the nearest NB store. So I'm stuck with ordering and returning. I also can't figure how the sizing works. I have Size 10 shoes that still fit me fine, but in these I need an 11+. Thankfully NB customer service was wonderful in suggesting I go with a men's size 9.5 Narrow which is a bit larger and wider than a woman's 11 Narrow but okay. Thankfully NB customer service was wonderful in suggesting I go with a men's size 9.5 Narrow which is a bit larger and wider than a woman's 11 Narrow but okay. Lastly, for some strange reason, NB changed the heel design from a neutral in the 880-13 to a slanted in the 880-14. If you look at it, you'll notice it. This forces you into pronation which is a good way to get knee, hip and back problems if you're me. Maybe it will work for some. For me, I'm a distance walker, and I need neutral shoes.

Way too soft and clown-like
11 May 2024

I needed some new shoes for my long walks. My previous NB lasted me through the pandemic and many, many miles. These are too soft, too much spring. Even with my Superfeet insoles they are actively making my feet worse than ever before. Might be good for someone standing for long periods of time, but for walking they’re an absolute NO. They’re also clunkier looking. Very wide through the sides. I’m disappointed. I expected far more from NB and $140 pair of sneakers. Won’t be buying this model again and this pair will be relegated to the back of the closet.

YAY FOR COLORS!!!!!
26 July 2024

As a runner with narrow feet I've been disappointed by the lack of color choices for 2A sizes. Usually the choice is black or white. I was elated to see the X880v14 in beautiful shades of green, blue and a copper color! I ordered the mint green and am happy with that choice. Apart from the colors, the shoe is a dream for me. I usually wear the 1040 but didn't like the latest edition, so I tried the 880 and LOVE it. No heel slippage, the toe box is roomy and the overall fit is perfect for me. I always order up a full size in running shoes and I did that with these. The cushioning is enough, although later after a little wear time, I may add my Currex insoles for a little more cushion.
