Having tried, all manner of boots, shoes and various types of sports shoe, for the second year I have worn the New Balance Hierro shoe with Vibram sole for a 100km walking event on tarmac, concrete and trails. The shoe performed fantastically, again, and in combination with twin skin socks resulted in zero rub points, zero blisters and overheating or moisture issues regardless of higher than average temperatures. The heal cup fitted perfectly keeping the shoe connected to just the right extent and complimented by the stability and flex within the footbed of the shoe. The outer material was superb in managing moisture control but remained brilliantly supportive with just the right amount of movement available throughout the event to maintain side/width support ... MoreHaving tried, all manner of boots, shoes and various types of sports shoe, for the second year I have worn the New Balance Hierro shoe with Vibram sole for a 100km walking event on tarmac, concrete and trails. The shoe performed fantastically, again, and in combination with twin skin socks resulted in zero rub points, zero blisters and overheating or moisture issues regardless of higher than average temperatures. Highly recommended 👍

Best shoe for wide feet

I love this shoe in extra wide. I play softball, golf and hike with them. They are incredibly comfortable for my wide feet, and I now keep 2 pairs on hand at all times. Soft soles with good grip. My favorite shoe of all time.

I have worn Newbalance brand for years and always been happy with the fit and they way they hold up. This is my first pair of trail runners. I have only worn them for about three weeks and the seams on the right shoe are coming apart.

Good Start
16 February 2024

I can wear a 2E with the NB 857 and 608 but I needed the 4E with the Hierro v7. I've worn it once so it's too early to know much about quality and durability but the fit works for me. With a wide foot I don't have many options for shoes but NB usually has something I can wear. I would like to see NB offer a trail runner like the Hierro with a drop from zero to 5 mm and a stack height from 25 to 28 mm. That would really float my boat.

Great for extra wide feet
4 January 2024

These shoes have become my go-to sports shoe. The fact that they come in an extra wide is a rare find, and I bought two additional pairs after using the first one for 6 months.. I use them for softball, golf and hiking, and they excel at each. I would love more color options, as the black is pretty boring. If you have extra wide feet, you should purchase them. There aren't many options to choose from and these are extremely comfortable and well built.

Pretty great
25 November 2023

I have maybe 100 miles on my first pair now. I am thankful to New Balance for (finally) again providing 15 4E trail runners. I think these are pretty great.1) vibram2) stable3) not excessively cushy, which for me causes stability problems4) they have stood up to wear and tear very wellCompared to the older King of the Mountain (which fail early due to stitching problems), these have held up well.

So very comfortable . . .
5 June 2024

Five stars left as . . . oh, these are so very comfortable. I have had trainers that breathe better, but this has not been an issue thus far with this pair. I normally take a size 44.5 EU with NB and found the sizing to be correct with this pair. One area of disappointment was that I (and a person who I checked this with to ensure it was not just my imagination) found that the orange is far brighter in person than in the photographs on the website - to the extent that I would have ordered a different colour had I known beforehand. So, beware if you are not interested in a bright (!) orange pair of trainers. Otherwise all good.

Still uncertain about this shoe.
3 February 2024

Still uncertain about this shoe. It requires thick socks to be comfortable. It seems heavier than it appears. It requires more use to determine if it is a quality product.

Too narrow for a wide
18 January 2024

I got the wide, and they were way too narrow. I'll have to return them. I've gotten NB wides in other styles, like the tennis shoe, and it's the perfect fit, but for whatever reason this wide was way too narrow. Too bad, cause I love the way they look and was psyched to sport them.

tongue trouble
16 November 2023

I've used the Fresh Foam Hierro for several years and have been happy with them in the past, but this v7 tongue design is highly flawed. This version lacks the elastic stitching/material that holds the tongue in place. After about 1/4 mile on the trail I knew I was in trouble.. I looked down and the tongue had slid all the way to the side, I could see my socks through the laces. I returned them with no trouble and a full refund. Now I'm searching different brands, which I haven't had to do in a long time.Jason
