The pinnacle of performance technology, the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 X v12 works well whether you are running a marathon, walking your first mile or standing all day at work. The signature Fresh Foam X midsole foam in the 1080 v12 is New Balancersquos most cushioned Fresh Foam experience for ultimate comfort. It features 3 bio-based content that is made from renewable resources to help reduce the carbon footprint. New Balance tweaked the cushioning, dropped weight and improved flexibility so you can adapt to all of the different stresses that occur during a run. The Hypoknit upper is breathable and stretchy to accommodate many foot shapes, making it a great shoe for those individuals with bunions or who like a wider forefoot. It is designed with strategic areas of stretch and support for a more dialed-in fit. The gusseted tongue and bootie upper hugs your foot for a snug, supportive fit. New Balance redesigned the heel shape and reverted back to a more traditional, padded heel collar, so you get a more lockdown fit. The heel does still have a bit of a flair to make it easier to put on and get out the door. Consistently listed as one of the best running shoes, the new New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080 v12 continues on the tradition of excellence. A Downgrade from v11

The 1080v11's were way better. I road run between 125-150 miles/month and subsequently burn through shoes pretty fast. I simultaneously run a pair of Hoka's, On's or
Asics' at any given time as I find some variation helps stave off injury. That said, my 1080v11's were hands down my favorites. I would run them more than any other shoe,
and went through 3 fantastic pairs. I was excited to see the v12 drop, and quickly picked up a pair. Needless to say, I am disappointed. They are a fine running shoe, but just
fine. They don't affect my gait, and certainly don't cause anything to hurt... but they just aren't as much fun. I find the Fresh Foam to be less "fresh"... it's like they... Show more

I love these shoes and have practically not taken them off except to sleep ever since I got them a week ago. I have had 4 foot surgeries, plantar fasciitis, 2 stress fractures,
arthritis, neuromas, bunions and hammer toes. I can no longer mess around with shoes. And I am a 10 1/2 wide which is next to impossible to find. I have always had the best

Absolutely adore the style and subtle colors of this shoe. I got the Sea Salt with Sweet Caramel and Light Surf. It's super lightweight, provides very good stability, and serves
many purposes. I use them for long walks, errands, fitness, sculpt and dance classes. They have a thick cushion and they are truly like walking on clouds!!!Unfortunately
within the first few days of having them, I accidentally broke a liquidy bottle of brown brow mascara that went flying all over the shoes, and could not for the life of me scrub it

I find the Fresh Foam to be less "fresh"... it's like they took the bounce/pep out of the shoe somehow. I find them to be far less responsive than the previous models (v11's, and even v10's), and notice leg fatigue more over longer distances. All that said, I will still run them for my usual 500 miles before retiring them, and will go back to the v11 until the v13 comes out.... Show more

I also like that the tongue is made into the shoe and is not a separate piece so it doesn't slide off to the side like most of them do. I get compliments on these sneakers literally every time I wear them.... Show more

Excellent updates to the 1080
15 June 2022
I love this update to the 1080. The fit is spot-on as far as length and width. I wear 10B in this model vs. a 10.5B in Glycerin 19 and current Saucony Triumph model, so I think it runs slightly larger compared to those brands and models of neutral fit shoes. I've been wearing a size 10B in this NB shoe, the 1080, for a few years, so I don't think the sizing has changed at all for this 1080 vs. previous 1080s in recent years. The collar of the shoe, around the ankle is a great improvement over the previous two model #'s, as NB did away with the weird waterfall edge at the back of the heel. The heel of this 1080 update looks elegantly narrower than previous models and is not clunky looking at all. The colors are nice. I purchased two colors, one purple and the other orange/yellow. In person, the latter definitely has some orange in it, not just yellow. Overall, this is a highly cushioned, neutral running shoe that's good for all distance training, including long runs for marathon training.... Show more

Huge disappointment!

I am a retiree with bad osteoarthritis in both feet due to a botched surgery when I was 21. I HUGELY rely on these shoes and wear them practically every day, even inside, which means I have to buy them at least every 6 months. I usually buy two so I can change them out. I bought the bright blue pair. Felt great, no problems, took their advice about going down a half size. Big mistake with these black ones. Same shoe, same size, EXTREMELY TIGHT AND UNCOMFORTABLE! I thought they would stretch but they have not. Now I'm stuck with these and horrible foot pain till I can wear them out. The clerk at a well known running shoe store told me sometimes they can be "built" differently. Really? Sounds like pour production practice to me. New Balance stopped including extra wide widths
30 January 2023
The only reason I began wearing New Balance shoes was due to their inclusivity for extra wide feet. I still tried my best to stick with this brand after they decided to exclude the extra wide footed population, but these hurt my feet horribly. My feet were constricted, and the back digs into my ankles when I move. Most of their shoes already have a stiff, overly padded ankle, and it's disappointing that they couldn't keep the option for a thin, light weight backing like the 1089v11's. There's nothing special about this brand or this line now.I also don't know what to wear anymore because I have searched endlessly online for extra wide shoes that are lightweight but supportive, and don't dig into my Achilles when I walk. The 1080v11's were perfect; they included extra wide widths, were gentle on my feet, and no other brand lived up to that. The soft and thin heel didn't dig into my ankles and cause disabling pain like most shoes do for me.It's saddening to see that New Balance once provided supportive shoes for people who usually aren't included by brands, but decided we aren't worth the sales anymore. They've lost thousands of customers by deciding to exclude us, and that's disheartening because having a properly fitting shoe is so important if you want to be active.... Show more

Not an Upgrade from v11
14 February 2023
I bought three pairs of 1080v11 and LOVED them. I expected v12 to be better than v12 but it is not. I thought I would be okay ordering them online without trying them on given my experience with the v11 but wish I'd gone to a store to try them first.I do a brisk 3 mile walk 4-6 times a week and immediately noticed that the v12 was not as comfortable as v11, especially around my ankles and heals due to the changes.I hoped that after a week or so they would "break in" but instead a month later I ended up with heal and ankle pain so intense that my doctor recommended I stop my walks completely for at least a week to allow time for my feet to heal.I did that, and upon resuming my walks, the pain started to return. If you are looking for a very comfortable shoe lightweight that has plenty of space in the front I highly recommend this shoe. Vast improvement from the v11 but sizing is tricky
12 May 2022
This v12 shoe is 100% better than the last two models, v10 and v11. It has more structure like the v8 and v9 (which were my favorites). Also, the upper is much more comfortable as it no longer compresses the high instep of people like me who have high arches. The night sky and apricot colors are beautiful and sporty at the same time. Hats off to New Balance for listening to customers about needing to return to a more structured shoe. Way to Go! As for cons, there are 2. First, finding the right size is difficult in v12. The shoe is longer and has a much more roomy toe box so my typical size 9.5 B was way too large. I tried the 9 B and it fit width wise but was too short. The 9.5 Narrow fits goods, but unfortunately no retailers are selling the narrow version and New ... MoreThis v12 shoe is 100% better than the last two models, v10 and v11. I tried the 9 B and it fit width wise but was too short. The 9.5 Narrow fits goods, but unfortunately no retailers are selling the narrow version and New Balance only offers it in a few colors and sizes. The second con is that the shoe feels like the heel drop is lower than the advertised 8mm. It feels more like a 5 or 6mm similar to the Hoka. I can get used to it, but it is an adjustment when switching between my 8mm Saucony Triumph 19 and the 1080 v12. Overall, vast improvement with this model!... Show more
