928v3s - a New Balance classic but treat them well
I last purchased a pair of 928v3 walking shoes in December 2022 and began wearing them in late June 2023. I have relied on this model of shoes over the years as I have painful feet and wear orthotics which they accommodate nicely. I have noticed some fit and feature challenges on this pair of shoes that might be worth sharing with others. For the 928v3s I would say that proper care of the shoes is mandatory which include putting them on and removing them properly and carefully, not cramming ones' feet into the shoes without unlacing them, which is a very bad habit of mine. This kind of shoe mistreatment I think impacts the way the shoes fit and last in the long run (to me the latter is important as they are an investment as well as a safe pair of shoes to wear). ... Additionally this pair of shoes does appear to have issues with the laces unlacing on their own which could be a safety hazard for the wearer. I am sure that New Balance's customer service department are aware of these customer concerns.I have ordered a new pair of 928v3s and will definitely treat them nicer than I did my current pair.... 928v3 - Terribly Painful
At the direction of my Orthopedic physician I bought my first pair of 928v1 in 2017. I immediately loved them. They had excellent cushioning, a long padded tongue, soft padded interior and long laces. They were supportive, gave me balance and stability. I wore black or white and they were the only shoes I wore; they were so completely comfortable. My ankle bone has shifted out of alignment and is resting under the leg bone and he told me that he has seen where one bone breaks the other, so to please wear these shoes. As time went on I wore them out. I then bought another pair and never thought about changes being made. But the 928v2 was suspect. By the time I needed another pair, it was the 928v3. As time went on I wore them out. I then bought another pair and never thought about changes being made. But the 928v2 was suspect. By the time I needed another pair, it was the 928v3. The first pair was so painful- a short tongue, no cushioning, hard landing that I returned them because I thought they were counterfeit. They weren't as the second pair is just as bad. Apparently this is now what New Balance considers a good, comfortable, supportive shoe. I have tried and will continue to try to find a replacement. For now, I'm in daily pain. I am currently caring for a corn on the outer side, in the middle of my left foot. A corn there??? I've never had that. My feet simply hurt all day. I have tried Skechers and can't wear them because they are not as supportive and I feel the lack of the roll bar- unfortunately. I have tried others and they also don't provide what I need; but I will keep trying unless NB changes the 928 to compare to the original version. It is astounding to me that NB is so tone deaf. I have read numerous complaints about the 928v3 today and just want to say...WHY??? Why did you ruin what was an outstanding shoe that I recommended to so many people?... Show more

Bad Quality Control and Manufacture
This is the first NB shoe that I found had a narrow sizing even though I ordered x-wide. I ordered the black 928v3 in 9 WW. The shoe was too tight especially around the toe box and front shoe eyelets. This didn't seem like normal leather shoe. It was super stiff and no comfort in the sole. I could not use my insole because of the narrow toe box. I double checked the box and shoe and they both had 9 WW. So I suppose this is a quality control / manufacture mess up.... Show more

Don't make changes but keep same model number!
I ordered the exact same shoe as I have currently. When I received it, I noticed it looked a little different although the same "numbers" were on the outside and model number was the same. Then, when I wore the shoe, it felt different, and I figured it was just new. Nope. After a week of walking in the shoes, they definitely felt different and were more uncomfortable than the existing pair. So frustrating to have a tried and true "model" of shoe wear and perform differently and be more uncomfortable. New Balance should change the model number of the shoe if they make changes. Arrgh!! Not happy, but since they have been worn for a while, can't return.... Show more

Lack of sizing quality control
I walk a lot and purchase the 928V3 3-4 times per year. I've been buying 928s for a very long time and buying New Balance for even longer - for decades. I've been very happy. However, the most recent pair in black in my usual size was too short. The white ones I purchased over the summer are fine. The 928s have declined in quality over time (with the price increasing) but this time the sizing is way off. I don't understand. I returned them. I ordered the white ones. Hopefully they will be what I expect.... Show more

Perfect walking shoe for walking my dog
I love the ROLLBAR feature in these shoes. I bought this pair to replace a previous version that had that feature. I use these shoes for walking my dog and the ROLLBAR feature saved me from twisting my ankle on a couple of occasions. The shoes kept my ankle from turning far enough to injure itself. We walk several miles a day and these shoes are living up to the standard of the previous pair. The tread has excellent traction on wet pavement. I wear leather walking shoes like these in colder, wet weather.... Show more

Not solely for this purpose but if you have orthopedic issues and find it hard to find a sneaker that's versatile - this works! It is pricey & never goes on sale BUT if you need a shoe that's supportive for long standing/walking for hours or allows room for inserts - this is definitely worth trying. I'm not sure about the other colors as I've never purchased but the black ones... you can definitely dress these up or down. Pair with your favorite laces or bling them out with any design. They are pricey and may not be for everyone but overall I do recommend to give a try. If you don't like them you can always return for a different choice.... Show more

Shoes not as wide as they used to be
I have bought this shoe for years. I have 4X wide feet and New Balance is the only company I know that produces comfortable 4X wide shoes. I have loved these shoes. However, the pair that I bought in May 2023 was not as wide as the last pair I bought previously. I thought perhaps I had forgotten that I needed to wear the shoe for a while to stretch the leather, so I kept the shoes and have been wearing them. Now, however, they hurt my left foot too much to wear them. Because they are simply not as wide as they used to be. I talked to a customer representative, but she was unable to give me any information about what might have happened with this shoe. This is a crisis for me given that I have not found other 4X wide shoes on the market.... Show more

Supportive, all black, hard sole, high arch, roomy
Chose it for black leather, black sole, arch support for plantar fasciitis. Fits my needs well; I'd like something less clunky-looking but I knew what I was getting (best I could find). The sole and arch seem *very* hard and high to me, and I like a firm, high arch. If you don't, find something softer. I have a narrow foot & bought narrow; even so the instep and toes are roomier than my foot. BUT, joint of big toe is right up against shoe. Tongue is short, but not slipping or causing problems.... Very stable shoe for pronated ankles
I have pronation of the ankle; I currently work with a DO using manipulation therapy every six weeks which helps as the only other alternative is surgery and I don't have time or patience to be off my feet 3-6 months. My podiatrist recommended the New Balance brand made with leather versus the lighter weight shoes. This model helps to make my ankle very stable while walking. I don't use them for long walks such as walking my dogs (I have hiking boots I use for long walks for the ankle stability) but these shoes don't cause me pain or make me feel unstable while running errands or working at the school. The sole is very solid (versus other shoes that orthotic shoe stores try to put you in with squishy/soft soles). I am very pleased with my purchase and would buy again.... Show more
