I ran a speed workout in these shoes and they felt weightless. They are an excellent companion to the SC trainers, though I would recommend saving them for race day. They're much lighter than the V2s, and the sock-like upper kept them very secure. They even felt stable at mile pace, which in my experience is unlike other high-stack distance shoes. Other reviews have noted that there is some ankle chafing, but I did not have that issue. Go a half size up for a comfortable fit. I plan to wear these for all of my future races.

I bought the Fuelcell SC Elite V3 for the NYC Marathon and they did not disappoint. I was able to train in them "break them in" for two weeks before the marathon and had no issues whatsoever.I wore them for short and long runs at pace and even faster and the fit was great from the jump. The cushioning, carbon plate propulsion and bounce of these fantastic racers supported me through the five boroughs, the bridges and the heat. They felt so sturdy and comfy.Even though I wear regular size 10/10.5 shoes, I always buy size 11 for all my sneakers/trainers/racers. The feet expand as I run and the bigger size has always worked miracles for me.These were comfortable, fit like a glove and I could play with the laces to have them adjust better to my feet. The red, white ... MoreI bought the Fuelcell SC Elite V3 for the NYC Marathon and they did not disappoint. I was shocked that these shoes fit me properly. I have wide feet and haven't been able to fit into any carbon plated shoes. The RC Elite v2 was very narrow/weirdly shaped and uncomfortable. These shoes remind me of my favorite NB shoes, Rebel v2. Same comfy and soft cushioning and forgiving fabric that wraps your foot up nicely and forms to your foot shape. I've never liked "super shoes" as I prefer more of a minimalist shoe and max 6mm drop. I bought these to try out for long runs and recovery runs and figured I wouldn't like the height or weight, but I've done 3 runs in them so far and don't notice either of those things. These shoes kind of disappear on your feet. I haven't taken them out for anything more than 6 miles yet so I'm not sure how they'd do for longer ... MoreI was shocked that these shoes fit me properly. They're more of a bootie fit around the ankle collar which works for me since I have very narrow ankles and wider feet at the forefoot area. So these may not work well for those with thicker ankles. I haven't noticed any rubbing mentioned in other reviews but I also don't wear low cut socks so this is never an issue for me. I love the rocker on them which helps propel me forward. Thank you New Balance for being the only shoe company out there that makes shoes to fit my wide feet! For reference, these do seem to run short. I wear a size 10 wide in Rebels which also run short, and 9 wide in 1080 v2 which ran long. Recommend sizing up a half size from your usual New Balance size!

I tried running with these twice. I liked everything about these shoes except the inside stitching on the blue inside liner near both top lace holes on both shoes. The stitching is very hard and made my skin sore below my ankles where the stitching makes contact with my foot. I had nice thick running socks on and they were between my skin and the contact points but it didn't help. I liked the overall foot comfort of these shoes so much on my first run I was willing to give them a second trial run. However, the issue was the same so I decided it was best to return them despite all of the positives. I hope they fix the stitching on future runs. If they do I'd be willing to try them again.
My first time running in new balances and I'm so happy!! Two of my running friends suggested trying these! They are different from the drop I usually run with and heavier than what I run with..the reviews were mixed and it took me a while to commit but I'm so glad I did! It is like running on clouds...but fast.I am a prior competitive figure skater so I have wear ankles, so personally I LOVE the higher fit around my ankles but of course that is personal preference. I also love that i don't have to fuss with a separate tounge and it slides on like a sock. (Again personal preference) these are so comfortable.. and after researching and researching I'm so happy I went with this one!
These FuelCells provide a really comfy ride -- cushy yet supportive and flexible -- not to mention feeling very lightweight. I feel like these might actually improve my stride. I do love running in them and recently completed a full marathon in them. As an Altra runner for the last several years, I was hesitant to step out of my zero-drop comfort zone, but took a chance as these are only 4mm drop, and they actually work well for me. The toe box is roomy and I've found these to handle downhill runs very well. My foot doesn't get all scrunched up at the top of the shoe at all and they accommodate a bunion on my right foot. What doesn't work for me: There's some rough material that rubs the side of my left ankle that has required me to add a little blister tape or ... MoreThese FuelCells provide a really comfy ride -- cushy yet supportive and flexible -- not to mention feeling very lightweight. My foot doesn't get all scrunched up at the top of the shoe at all and they accommodate a bunion on my right foot. What doesn't work for me: There's some rough material that rubs the side of my left ankle that has required me to add a little blister tape or where slightly higher socks. I also do not like the lacing system. The shoes are constructed almost like a sock, which is mostly great and comfy. But the top of my left foot actually hurts when I wear these. The lace stays where the shoe becomes rigid hit a bone on the top of my foot and also my inner ankle bone. This wasn't even noticeable until my 3rd run and not until 15+ miles. I keep wearing them in hopes it will loosen up some, and I was able to tolerate a full marathon. I now wrap that foot up with some tape when I wear these and will see how it goes. I imagine these issues may be due to a high arch.
I trained and ran multiple races last year in the NB FuelCell Elite v2 and am anxiously awaiting v3. Picked these up at the start of this year's training cycle hoping they might tide me over. They have the same great cushion and spring as the Elite v2, but with a little less squish, which is good. What I don't like is the rigid ankle design in the upper lace area. After my first run, I had persistent soreness on the front of both ankles from the shoe hitting there. I did not notice it during the run, so I'm hoping they break in a bit and that softens up.I purchased a size up from my daytime wear size, as usual, but these feel about half a size smaller than that.
I wear these for all my easy day runs and my easy long runs (note: these shoes are not for workouts/speed/quality efforts hence the "trainer" in the subject line people!). I am absolutely obsessed with this shoe and have tried virtually every fan-favorite trainer on the market across popular brands over the years and these are my #1 favorite all-time so far. They feel extremely bouncy and help propel my heavy marathon-training legs off the ground. I also believe that the carbon-plate and the propulsion aspect helps in recovery too. I feel that my legs are more quickly recovering from wearing carbon-plated race shoes and these trainers day-in-and-out. I see a lot of negative comments here about the ankle, but I have not had this issue. I have over 300 miles now in them and they are still running just as lovely as they were the first mile I ran in them. No issues with wear and tear in the upper. Can't wait to buy my next pair!
These shoes are amazing for long runs and perfectly capable of picking up the pace. The upper is stretching and very comfortable. Mid sole is bouncy but not overly mushy. The ride is super smooth with great mid to forefoot transition. The shoes are stable (not stability shoes, but stable neutral) and the high stack is very controllable at ANY pace. The lockdown is very secure in the heel (and I have narrow heels and wide ish forefoot. My only watch out is the aggressive toe spring. If you are sensible to it, it may not be for you. These shows are COMFORTABLE for piling mile.Highly recommended.
Got this trainer to help me through a knee injury and then for long runs once I'm better. It's probably the smoothest rolling running shoe I've worn. Seamless heel-toe transitions at slower paces but then a really fun pop when you pick up the pace. The upper fit is sublime. Size was TTS for me - it feels a bit snug volume-wise when you first put it on but stretches beautifully while running. It's like a race shoe fit on a daily trainer! The lateral ankle area is stiff/high and could be an issue for some but wasn't for me once running. I noticed it more when walking, oddly enough. I usually pad with a bit of folded up gauze if it bothers me.It's great to finally have a truly protective trainer that actually inspires you to run fast instead of feeling like a ... MoreGot this trainer to help me through a knee injury and then for long runs once I'm better.
