NICKNAME | Varsity Maize |
COLORWAY | BLACK/VARSITY MAIZE |
RELEASE DATE | December 9, 2020 |
The Nike Dunk High SP “Varsity Maize” is an original colorway from Nike’s “Be True to Your School Pack” in 1985 that was designed for the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball team. Also known as the “Goldenrod” colorway, the predominantly two-tone black-and-yellow design was once used on a limited edition Wu-Tang Dunk way back in 1999, as well. Unlike the prior “Varsity Maize” releases, the Wu-Tang design displayed the hip-hop group's “W” logo embroidered on the heel. As for this shoe, Nike reissued the iconic look for its Holiday 2020 release roundup to honor the old school collection. Vibrant Varsity Maize leather overlays on the heel, eyelets, and forefoot pop against the black leather found on the perforated toe, collar, and mid-panel. Both the leather Swoosh that appears on either side and laces are finished off in the same shade of yellow. The black nylon tongue features yellow Nike Air accenting and a small yellow pull tab appears in Varsity Maize on the back of the shoe. A white rubber sole completes the look of this all-time classic Nike Dunk High. Release date: December 9, 2020.
