I am very comfortable when playing in a shoe that feels like it’s not there. It wraps around the foot like a sock and every stroke just feels so powerful. The weight of the shoe is insane. When going for a run down the line it feels like you’re taking flight. Nothing holding you back. It is not a very wide shoe at all though. Out of the box, the Nike Mercurial Superfly 8 Elite (Firm-Ground) Soccer Cleat fit very well. I'm a size 13 and this cleat fit true to size for me. I was putting this cleat to use for the first time on an indoor, turf field for sprints and a light practice. This cleat had minimal break-in time and seemed to hug my foot right away. The 'FlyKnit' collar definitely helped with the comfort and fit, and the 'Vaporposite' upper wrapped around my foot to make it feel secure. My favorite aspects of this cleat is the traction on the pitch and how light they are on foot. I've seen many colorways so far, but my favorite is this black and gold pair.I'm excited to put this product to use some more, but I curious to see how durable they are. I'm a little worried about the durability of the upper after weeks of use. I'm also curious to see how long the "FlyKnit" collar will hold up before fraying or getting stretched out.Overall, my experience with the Nike Mercurial Superfly 8 Elite Firm-Ground Soccer Cleat has been a pleasant one.

This boot is everything advertised, and so much more. Out of the box, I was very impressed with the high-quality materials and craftsmanship. I tested these out on turf and short grass, both wet and dry conditions, and was very satisfied with how effective the traction is. On turf I actually stumbled a couple times here and there while I adjusted to how aggressively the cleats can stick your foot in place; if you're someone that tends to drag your feet from time to time, I foresee a similar struggle in your future. The upper is super thin, providing great feel and touch on the ball, but also very durable - after multiple outings, it still looks brand new and has yet to even register a crease. For the most part, the Flyknit collar does an excellent job of locking the boot in place and preventing slippage while making hard cuts and explosive movements. As far as drawbacks, my main concerns are centered on sizing and back of the ankle collar. The shoe runs a little bit smaller than expected so I would recommend getting a half size up. The toebox is particularly snug and can sometimes be a little painful when decelerating quickly or backpedaling. I'm sure that after some more breaking in it will become more pliable, but as-is I could see this becoming a problem over the course of an entire game full-speed.The collar is mostly great, however, it can sometimes bunch up slightly in the back along the reinforced seam where it is joined to the heel of the boot. When this happens, it can create a very bothersome level of friction right over your Achilles' tendon, and this would be my main gripe with this otherwise wonderful cleat. The friction is all the more noticeable because the rest of the boot (and the majority of the Flyknit collar) fit so seamlessly against the foot so as to be unnoticeable. Perhaps this could be mitigated with socks that feature extra cushioning in the heel area which aren't hard to find for football, American football, or basketball, but in my standard-thickness dri-fit crew socks it was very pronounced. All in all, I absolutely love this boot and would highly recommend it to anyone considering a bit of a splurge on it. Just be aware that it runs a little smaller than expected, and if you'll be wearing reinforced socks to take that additional thickness into account when selecting your size. In the future I'd like to see Nike maybe moving that reinforced seam in the back somewhere it is less likely to bunch up and create extra friction; perhaps just to the inside of the Achilles' tendon on either ankle. Otherwise, excellent work!

Great Cleat but beware for people with thicker ankles

The cleats are gorgeous, lightweight and super comfortable.I tried these cleats on artificial turf and I felt I had good control to run, stop and accelerate without any issues. This is the first pair I used that has a sock liner that wraps around the ankle perfectly. It gives it a snug feel that makes it comfortable around the foot and helps to not have the fear of rolling an ankle easily. Now while the sock liner is a huge plus it can be a downside as someone with a big foot and it is hard initially to put on since it is so tight at first. It can be a little frustrating to put on and off at times. If you’re a wife foot maybe consider trying these on first before fully committing to getting these to play. Great lightweight shoe but torn on comfort

Design:When you first look at these cleats, at least in the black colorway, it doesn't really stand out from the crowd, but the silhouette is still quite beautiful. The paint and color choices are subtle yet elegant and the materials used are complimentary and feel premium. The only flaw I can find in the design of these cleats is that some of the silver paint seemed to have smudged out of the factory. It was a relatively minor defect, but I would've expected better with a pair of cleats of this caliber. The only flaw I can find in the design of these cleats is that some of the silver paint seemed to have smudged out of the factory. It was a relatively minor defect, but I would've expected better with a pair of cleats of this caliber. At the end of the day though, these cleats look great on foot!Comfort:This is the area that I'm not completely in love with. First of all, these cleats fit like an absolute glove. When you slip them on the fabric material around the ankle and top of the cleat stretch to give a confident hold around your foot. The first few times I put them on and took them off it was a little difficult, but I've gotten more accustomed to the fit and that's no longer an issue. Tying the laces creates an extra secure fit but even with them untied I don't feel like they would ever slip off. Even having the fabric hugging my ankles make it feel more supported than usual. Now here's where I ran in to some issues: these cleats feel great on foot but when I'm playing with them on, the soles of my feet end up hurting. What do I think that's going on here? To begin with, and like I mentioned previously, these cleats are quite minimalist. That includes the sole and insole of the shoe. I can feel some of the individual studs through the sole on a firm pitch and this pressure over time starts to hurt. I wish there was a little more cushion and protection in this area. This design is great for mobility and performance but has negative effects when it comes to comfort. That being said, I would like to think the more I break in these cleats the less this would be an issue.Performance:The area I live in is quite wet. This means that we have artificial grass on most playing fields. I've historically had issues with traction with other cleats on this type of pitch, but I was pleasantly surprised to not have that issue at all with these. Regardless of whether it's wet or dry, I always feel like I had a firm grip on the ground! The upper material was a synthetic that was also pretty new to me. It feels somewhat "plastic-y", but this wasn't necessarily a bad aspect. This material choice allows for an ultra-thin yet durable cover between your foot and the ball. I felt like I could feel the ball much more naturally than other cleats and the ball did exactly what I wanted it to do. I had some initial concerns about performance in wet weather, such as the material getting more slippery in wet weather, but I noticed no problems there.Verdict:At the end of the day these are a great pair of cleats. A wonderful and lightweight design with performance that allows you to play your best. Ultra-thin cleats aren't for everyone, and overall comfort might be slightly sacrificed for it, but if you have a history of using cleats like these or have no problem allowing your feet to get acclimated, you won't be disappointed!

More Snug, Break-In Required
21 December 2021

This boot feels a little more snug than the Superfly 6 (didn't get a chance to wear the 7). They're not uncomfortable, but definitely don't feel as sock-like as the Superfly 6 and 5. In terms of thickness, it reminds me of the Vapor 11's, but it feels more plastic-y than the prior versions of the Superfly that I've owned. Stud pattern remains aggressive and traction is great, and I really like that they connected the front and back parts of the sole plate rather than keep it split like the Superly 6 and 7 -- it just feels a little more supportive. Touch feels good, but the ball flies off the foot much like it did on the Vapor 11, which I love and that I feel the Superfly 6 missed. The biggest knock on this would be the break-in period. I feel like the Superly 6 and 5 were playable right out of the box (skipped Superfly 7), but that's not the case for the 8's. First game out, these dug into my heels and gave me blisters behind my ankles (used band aids for the second game and that solved that issue), but after two full games in these, they still feel stiff. Thus, comfort is good, as long as you like a snug fit and take precautions for your ankles. Second knock -- a totally minor one -- is that the plastic cover on the end of the shoelaces came off one end when I was untying my shoe. Nike won't offer lace replacements, so heads up on that.

Nike Mercurial Superfly 8

This shoe was very lightweight and comfortable. This the first time that I have tried on one of those sock type boots and it felt good when I finally got them on. It hugs your foot and feels very snug. It did feel like it was digging into my heel at first but I eventually couldn’t feel it when I broke in the shoes. The design is my favourite part of the shoe, you can tell they really put effort into the details of thepatterns and logos. My legs didn’t feel as heavy after runs because of the weight of the shoe. And unlike other cleats that I have previously owned where I had to ‘break them in’ for maximum performance and comfort during the game, these cleats felt good immediately after putting them on. I loved the way the shoe fit at my ankle and the support it provided. Even when my laces were undone, at no time did I feel like my cleats would fall off. As I am a relatively fast player, making cuts or stopping abruptly on the pitch was quite easy due to the traction that was provided by the studs. When performing with the ball, it was easy to control the ball, juggle, and cross the ball across the field. Not sure if it was how confident the shoes made me feel but even my control felt amazing, when receiving the ball. The only difficulty that I experienced with this shoe was when I was putting it on. Due to my wider feet, it was not easy to put them on and take them off. I had to loosen the laces, on both occasions. It was overall a great product with a very modern and sleek design, which did not detract from its function. It delivered the promised results and I am very satisfied with this product.

Not for wide feet

These shoes are bright! They are definitely a fun conversation starter and “loud”, so if you want more of a subtle look or to “blend in”, these are not the cleats for you! They are also very narrow and snug. I had a hard time actually getting my foot in, and I never considered myself to have wide feet before. After completely loosening all of the straps and stretching out the top, ankle sock area, I was able to squeeze my feet in. They fit very snug, like a compression sock fit, which was surprisingly comfortable! I could only fit very thin socks on with these cleats, but after walking around for a bit, they formed nicely to my feet and were very comfortable. They are also very breathable, which is a great feature! The high ankle piece was a little weird to get used to, but it ended up being nice and felt like it kept the cleat stable on my feet during running. They didn’t move or shift because that piece held snug on my ankles. They came with a thin drawstring backpack that was nice for throwing them in after a game and not worrying about dirt getting everywhere, which was a nice added touch as well. Overall, I was very pleased with these cleats, but they are very difficult to get on, which is why I took off 1 star.

Phenomenal touch
23 March 2021

These cleats not only look amazing, but due to how thin and flexible the clear material is, it’s soo easy to have a great touch on the ball. Would recommend wearing thin socks with these. Parts of the shoe are almost like a solid gauze with a very fine mesh pattern which provides excellent breathability. I have a wider fore-foot, and many soccer cleats feel too narrow. These however, although not wide, were definitely flexible that area and comfortable.I was hesitant about the partial “sock” feature around the ankle. They make it slightly difficult to get on, but if you have thin socks this feature really does provide a nice comfort and feeling that the shoe is customized for your foot. Would recommend wearing thin socks with these. Parts of the shoe are almost like a solid gauze with a very fine mesh pattern which provides excellent breathability. I don’t think this would be comfortable with the old big thick socks that many youth programs provide, but are amazing with thin (normal) branded soccer socks. The cleats on the bottom are spaced well and although I have only tested on hard winter ground, would probably do just fine in soft turf or grass.Overall I would definitely recommend, especially if you like vibrant stand out colors on your shoes. Also- the cleats came with a nice sinch- backpack style cleats bag which was an extra bonus! I will probably not use for the cleats because it’s so nice looking- and will use for the pool/practices/day trips.

Worst Blisters of My Life
28 July 2022

Some of the reviews I read before I bought this said they took time to break in. These were from payed adidas testers and were obviously not giving the full scope of things. I wore these shoes for 2 days playing soccer, not even that intensely. I got blisters on the back of my ankles and inside of my feet worse than I've ever had. I couldn't walk for two days and couldn't run for 2 weeks. Thankfully I tried these out before the seasons started but if I had started wearing them at the start of the season I probably would have been out for the year. My blisters healed and I've worn them 3 more times. Just recently I got another set of terrible blisters after an hour and a half very light session. These cleats are great if you are planning on playing once every 2 ... MoreSome of the reviews I read before I bought this said they took time to break in. Probably going to need to buy another pair of cleats because there is no way I can go through a soccer season wearing these.
