Good choice for an all purpose training shoe at the gym. Thick sole that wears in (not out) quickly with good tread for preventing slips and minimal squeaking on wood floors. The shoe is breathable and comfortable for extended wear. Only criticism is the shoelaces out of the box feel a bit weak and the sides of the shoe raise up high which can rub a bit if you have prominent ankles. Otherwise happy purchase.

Third, the middle sole is carved out for the rope rubber and it makes them feel less stable for lifting because there's noting there to support you're foot on the ground. I'm sure they work great for some people, but they feel heavy and bulky which is not what I look for when I workout. Day to day just going to the store or getting the mail, probably fine. Extremely disappointed in the quality of this shoe. Had my original metcons since day one and had absolutely no issues with them and finally decided to upgrade. This shoe was ruined after less than an hour of using. This shoes heel can take absolutely NO running....I used this shoe once and the rubber on the heel already broke off. Ran less than a half mile to the gym and it was messed up. This is a great shoe for crossfit/lifting only. Terrible for anything else.

Have always loved Nikes and they are always comfortable. The Metcon 9 just isn’t. The ankle slot is too far back so my ankle is constantly rubbing against the shoe. The “air cushion” in the heel is not a cushion. It’s hard plastic with ZERO give. Wide toebox is nice, and the shoe looks cool, but even walking in this shoe is no fun because the ankle/heel/back section of the shoe is so stiff. I wear these for lifting, but not much else…and I don’t look forward to putting them on. Even after breaking in they aren’t getting better. Am almost to the point of just donating them and buying something else.
I was very pleased with my first ever Metcon purchase. I had been reading reviews for years and decided to take a chance on them. The shoe feels solid, and the lock-down sensation is real! Along with the lock-down feel, there is also good flexibility for athletic training. This shoe is versatile and able to take whatever I throw at it. I recommend these shoes, but if you can get a deal on them, they are all the more sweet!
The shoes are attractive. I received multiple unsolicited comments about how cool they looked. I have a wide foot and these shoes felt very accommodating. They are somewhat stiff with less padding than I would have preferred on the sides and bottom- could probably benefit from a gel insert. The rubber on the sole of the shoe felt a little stiff and was a little noisier on hard surfaces than a typical sneaker. The shoes felt a little more like a dress sneaker than a sports sneaker. I wouldn’t have wanted to run in them or participate in a sport while wearing them. That said, my feet did not hurt wearing them and didn’t irritate my ankles or toes. These shoes would be a good fit for someone who enjoys a nice looking sneaker.

Originally bought two pair of the metcon 8's each lasting six months before a hole would form in the middle front and the material on the heel started to come off. Also the 8's had an issue of the sole separating from the shoe in the front so I wanted to give the 9's a chance to see if they hold up a little longer. I've work metcons for years and last few generations of them have been subpar so I swapped back to Reebok. Saw these and figured I'd give one more shot. Thank you Nike for getting this hair back in the right direction. Solid foot bed, very stable, dog the laces holder. Only complaint is the top eyelet areas are very rigid which can get uncomfortable at times. Hoping a few more workouts break that in.
Overall look is pretty cool. Overall feel and quality is horrible. Sides are so stiff it's bruising the underside of my ankle bone. Within a month not even working out in them, the rubber is coming off in chunks just leaving plastic at the very back of heel. When I'm walking there's a plastic noise hitting the floor with every step which is super annoying. Overall I hate them and do not wear them anymore.
