I’m confident in my ability to start, stop, and change direction. They also do a good job of keeping my feet dry in wet grass. Lastly I like the material they are made of, it gives me a lot of power when kicking the ball. They are hard to get on which I don’t really mind but I definitely need a shoe horn to get my foot in. And it would be cool if it came with a second color of laces, orange or black or something.... Show more

Difficult to put on
7 November 2021
So I’ll start with the bad. These babies are extremely difficult to put on. The pull on style with no ability to loosen them makes this a challenge. I was hoping that over time this process might become easier but it just hasn’t for me. I get the extension of the leg concept but it really is a frustrating battle just to get them on. They are also on the narrow side for my average width foot. Anyone with a wide foot might have comfort challenges with them. On to the good - they perform well. Cleats have good traction and work well in high grass, dirt, and mud. The textured upper combined with the off center lacing allow for great “lace” strikes and control of the ball. GT2 elite FG

The Nike Phantom GT2 Elite FG are any soccer players dream shoe, a beautiful shoe that has a classic style but yet futuristic look to them. The fit and feel of the shoe can't be compared to many out there and I've played soccer my whole life. The shoe has a snug fit that hugs the whole foot and they feel very light almost to the point were you don't really feel like you're wearing cleats. The design of the shoe makes it really stand out, with little grip implants around the whole shoe that allow for greater ball control and a compression band around the ankle part of the shoe which gives it an increased sense of balance and stability. What I most liked about the shoe was the overall design combination of grip and lightness which allows for greater mobility and control while dribbling a ball which is very important when playing the game. The only thing I would change is maybe adjusting the band around the ankle so it's not as hard when putting the shoe on, but I assume it loses tightness after the cleats have been properly broken in. Overall its a great shoe for soccer lovers that enjoy enhanced control when playing the beautiful game.... Show more

If you like to feel the ball and a tight fit, you will love these shoes!

Full disclosure, I am an avid runner that occasionally plays soccer. While I have always been very picky about my running shoes, I never paid much attention to my soccer cleats. However, after trying the Phantom GT2 Elite, I will not buy just any soccer shoes again. It is not an exaggeration to say that I felt I was a slightly better player. Why? Well, the feel of the ball with these shoes is terrific. You really feel you have the ball in control. I am a clumsy player, so having a good feel of the ball is essential to me, or I start making too many mistakes. These shoes are the best I have worn when it comes to controlling and feeling the ball.Additionally, these shoes are really light, and I could sprint around the field easily on them–for the most part. And here is the one negative thing I have to say about these shoes, they are hard to break into. The material of the shoes is tough. This fact is not bad in itself since it seems they are durable, but it takes some time to feel comfortable in them. They felt a bit hard at the beginning, and while putting them on the first few times, I thought I was going to bend and break the heels of the shoes. Nevertheless, after wearing them a couple of times, I started to feel comfortable in them. Once you break into these shoes, they snug tightly and comfortably around your foot. For me, this is what makes them great for controlling and feeling the ball. One final thing, the dynamic fit sock is great. I struggle with unstable ankles, and I fear I will sprain my ankle every time I wear soccer cleats. But this time, it was different. The dynamic fit sock makes you feel more stable, and after a couple of minutes, I was no longer worried about my ankles. I could focus on running and dribbling without worrying too much–or at all–about my ankles. All in all, they are the best soccer shoes I have ever had. They are hard to break into, but once you do that, they are great. Hopefully, they do not feel as hard in future iterations.I highly recommend them if you like to feel the ball. I guess my only problem now is that I will not settle for just any soccer shoes.... Show more

Lightweight, Functional Cleat

Now that I’ve had a bit of time with my new Nike Phantom GT2 Elite FG, I feel I can provide a comprehensive and honest review. These cleats seem to run a bit on the narrow side so if you have wide feet, they may not be the best option for you. If you like a snug fit, they are perfect. Sleek, modern with a touch of flair. In terms of durability, I will have to wear them a bit longer to really weigh in. They are incredibly thin which is both a benefit but can be a drawback depending on extended wear. I’m hopeful this waterproof material can hold up to substantial soccer wear.Overall, I am really enjoying the Nike Phantom GT2 Elite FG. Definitely an investment in ones soccer gear but one that is worthwhile.... Show more

Lightweight shoe with great control!
6 November 2021
I play in a recreational soccer league on weekends. This is my first new pair of firm ground (FG) cleats in five years and a lot has changed since I bought my last pair of shoes! Unlike my previous cleats, whose body was stitched together from several pieces, the body of the Phantom GT2 Elite DF FGs are molded out of a single piece of urethane-like material, with the sole and a small tab at the heel being thermally bonded to the shoe. The tongue and collar found on traditional cleats is replaced by a piece of elastic fabric that extends a bit past my ankle bone, which Nike calls “Dynamic Fit.” When I first received the shoe, I was a bit worried that this extra material on the ankle would be too stiff, but have found that it provides great support when making sharp ... MoreI play in a recreational soccer league on weekends. The tongue and collar found on traditional cleats is replaced by a piece of elastic fabric that extends a bit past my ankle bone, which Nike calls “Dynamic Fit.” When I first received the shoe, I was a bit worried that this extra material on the ankle would be too stiff, but have found that it provides great support when making sharp turns during sprints. Not having a traditional tongue is great — there is literally nothing that can slide around and they slip on easily. The urethane-like main body of the shoe provides great ball control. The material is the perfect amount of sticky and an extruded chevron pattern runs across the front and sides of the shoe. I am able to consistently place the ball where I want and think that these features have helped improve my shot accuracy.Compared to my previous shoes, the Phantom GT2 Elite DF FGs are incredibly light, which is definitely a welcome improvement! I have a bit of a wider foot, so these felt a bit narrow straight out of the box, but they have since worn in nicely.Stylistically, the shoes are very flashy! The white, orange, and neon yellow color scheme is high contrast and they definitely stand out on the field. This might not be for everyone, but has been a fun upgrade from my old pair. The one concern that I have about these shoes is their longevity. Because the body is molded from a single piece, I can’t really see these shoes being repairable if anything were to rip. Unlike stitched shoes, there are no reinforced eyelets for the laces — the eyelets are literally just holes stamped through the main body of the shoe. I haven’t had any issues so far, but am not expecting these shoes to last as long as my old pair.Overall, I have really liked these shoes so far — they are a big improvement over my old shoes technology-wise and seem to have improved my play. Time will tell how long these last before they need to be replaced.... Show more

Snug Fit
22 September 2022
First, I LOVE a snug fit cleat. It feels secure and sturdy to me. This shoe is definitely snug - but also runs a bit small. I am almost always a consistent size, and I needed a half size bigger in these.I've never had a cleat with the extended ankle sock/support. I absolutely love it. I thought it was just going to be a flimsy piece of fabric that really served no purpose. It fits tight around the ankle adding support and a slight cushion. The shoe is also fierce looking. I've always liked more basic colors for my cleats - but these cleats, even in black, catch the eye and add some style. I'm here for it.I wouldn't change anything about these cleats - I love them. Just make sure you get the right size!... Show more

The Phantom Menace

First, let me start off by giving you my background. I have been playing soccer for 30+ years at multiple levels including top end amateur leagues. I play goalie, so the quality of my cleats, while important, is not always at the top of my list when I am budgeting for equipment. I do not normally purchase the least expensive options, but I have always been hesitant to pull the trigger on the top end pro quality cleats. Also, since I typically play goalie, I typically lean towards less flashy cleats, usually the most color that I have on cleats is the accent to the black leather.I have always been a fan of Nike's soccer cleats, and have worn them all the way back to the Total 90 days (early 2000s). Also, since I typically play goalie, I typically lean towards less flashy cleats, usually the most color that I have on cleats is the accent to the black leather.I have always been a fan of Nike's soccer cleats, and have worn them all the way back to the Total 90 days (early 2000s). The last two pairs of cleats I have had are the Phantom GT Pro and the Tiempo Legend Pro, and I loved both of them. I was presented with the opportunity to get the Phantom GT2 Dynamic Fit, and I must say, they are worth the price of admission.Immediately upon opening the box, you are instantly hit with the fact that these are not your normal cleat. The design and the colors, are immediately noticeable and when you pick them up, you can feel the quality of the materials and workmanship, as well as how light each cleat is.The highlighter yellow and red are definitely eye catching, and contrast really well with the white upper. These cleats will certainly be noticed when you step on the field, so you better make sure that your play is up to par.The texture on the cleats, which resembles what I would think shark skin looks like under a microscope, really helps improve your control of the ball since it provides a friction point between your foot and the ball, allowing you to trap and pass the ball with improved touch.Another thing that I also liked about the shoe is the ribs on the back of the heel cup which help keep your heel/achilles in place in the center of the back end of the shoe. This helped me to limit blisters while breaking in, since the shoe did not rub my heel the way other shoes do.The main reason that I could not give this shoe top marks is that they do run small. I have a wider than normal foot, and I normally wear an 11.5 in the Tiempo family, and I wore a 12 in the pair of Phantom GT Pro's that I had prior to these shoes. I went ahead and ordered a size 12 in these since I thought they would be most similar to the Phantom Pro's.Due to the design of the Dynamic Fit, these definitely are more snug than the mid-level Phantom right out of the box, and they also took a bit longer to break in than some of the other cleats that I have had in the past. If I could start over again, I would have worked them by more by hand (bending, twisting, flexing) to help loosen them more. The type of sock you wear with these also plays a big factor in the comfort of these cleats, as thicker socks definitely make the fit more snug and limited my foot's ability to flex. When I wore thinner socks with these, they were more comfortable and I felt like my touch was more consistent as it was almost as if I wasn't wearing a shoe at all.Ultimately, long term wear (at least a season) of these cleats will determine my final grade of these as I need to see how they hold up to practice and games on both turf and grass fields....
