A Step in the Wrong Direction

I've owned four pairs of the Zoom Fly Flyknits and loved them all. Eight other runners in my club switched to them on my recommendation and love them as well. When I saw
they were being replaced by the Zoom Fly 3, I was excited to see how they could improve on an already spectacular shoe. Sadly, I was greatly disappointed. Despite ordering
my usual half size up, they were oddly tight in the toe box and loose in the heel no matter the lacing pattern used. The new lacing system adds a firmer plastic/rubber
textured box that pinches and rubs, especially compared to the glove-like fit of the Flyknit upper. The Vaporweave is also hot. It doesn't breathe well and is some... Show more

The original zoom fly still holds my personal preference for most comfortable zoom fly made. There was more cushion in the heel in gen 1 such that your heel didn't slip at all

I bought these as an alternative to the UA HOVR sneakers for running. While the HOVRs were okay, they weren't great. Every once in awhile, I would get these random pains
in my knees and shins because the HOVR foam isn't that thick. The Zoom Fly 3s provide way more foam and the response/ energy transfer is much better. They are easy to
run in and the vapor weave technology keeps my feet cool and dry. If you are running in the winter, I advise thick socks because I think it WILL be cold. These are good shoes
for the 3-5 mile runner like myself and a good trainer for the 10+ mile runner. If you're running long distances, I suggest something a little lighter like the Next%.... Show more

It doesn't breathe well and is somewhat flimsy, giving the shoe a clunkier feel than the previous iteration. The cushioning and sole are on par with that of the previous model though it does feel slightly heavier and a tad less responsive. The 3's seem to bring back those elements I disliked in the first Zoom Fly's. All in all I'm a sure it's a decent shoe. However, seeing that it's in a higher price category than most shoes, and in comparison to its predecessor, it fails to meet expectations. I'll be returning these and stocking up on the Flyknits before they are gone. I saw that the Next% has an option to replace the Vaporweave with a Flyknit upper. This option would bring me back to give it another try.... Show more

Excellent Shoe, Nike please do not discontinue!
26 July 2021
By far my favorite shoe I've ever had. Comfort, support, responsiveness, simply outstanding. I've trained and raced in all of the major brands, these are still my go-to everyday and long distance shoe.My running profile is marathon prep, three marathons coming up. Nearly all of my running is on pavement, concrete, or stone - not impact friendly. Currently hitting 50 - 60 miles a week, which means replacing my shoes every 8 - 10 weeks. I've been using the Zoom Fly 3s for the past year and a half. Tried another (more expensive) Nike shoe (due to Nike temporarily discontinuing the Zoom Fly 3s), the other shoes didn't give me nearly the comfort level of these...or the lasting mileage.Pro note: I always replace the soles in all new shoes. Great running shoes, but they do not last
5 June 2020
I am an age group triathlete and have been for over 10 years. I have ran in Asics, Adidas and Hokas. Up until I tried the the Vaporfly on a 5K ran, I could not run in Nike shoes. The Vapor fly was "fast". But they are very expensive and I wanted a version for everyday training and running "B" races. So, I decided to get a pair of Zoom Fly 3.The Zoom Fly 3 were comfortable from the first run. I have been running and training in them, for about 70 miles now, including doing 2 sprint triathlons and 1 Olympic triathlon. The shoes have been great, and I personally think they are more comfortable than the Vaporfly. I love these shoes, but the only caveat is, they do not last. I have noticed that the Zoom Fly tends to rotate my feet slightly to the outside and the bottom of the out soles on both side have started to wear away after 70 miles or so. I run mostly on dirt with a little cement pavement/asphalt during warmups and cool downs. The Zoom Fly is great, comfortable and fast. I just wish they would last longer. No regrets, I have already ordered another pair.... Show more

Long Distance Trainer

All in all, I like and would buy again, but please please pretty pretty please fix the upper :)Pros: superb cushioning, better than hoka, actually, and that says a lot given I am a big hoka fan. Good at maintaining pace, stable amd fast downhill descents, good tread durability, great sock like fit.Cons: Warm. Like, by mile 7 in Texas, my feet were soaked. Shoes themselves didn't hold water or sweat, but wool or any non-minimalist socks will get soaked because there isn't enough ventilation to allow evaporation in hot temperatures (high 80s/low 90s). And running barefoot doesn't appeal to me lol.Felt sluggish except at sprinting. I think the weight was just barely too much (maybe a reworked upper with more breathability, and maybe a smidgeon less cushioning could do the trick for version 4). It felt like more cushioning than I needed even for a long run (long being over 15 for me), but still responsive. It is just sorta heavy for me to trust with racing and felt slower than my other shoes if I'm being honest.However..... my other shoes cheat the weight game by having exposed foam and less tread. Kudos to Nike for recognizing this as making most other shoes not last that long. I think aside from slightly excessive cushion, the bottom of the shoe is amazing and love how it has react foam instead of amazing but low-mileage-life zoomx. It would just be nice to see more breathable uppers so my socks don't get squishy because sweat won't evaporate here in Texas summers :) and a sub 8.5 oz weight would be a huge plus! Definitely my new go-to for long training runs.... Show more

Overall Great Running Shoe
21 January 2021
This shoe has been exactly the running shoe I have looked for years to find. I have been running with my Lunar Eclipse 3 shoes for almost a decade and have logged thousands of miles on them. In-between the countless miles on that shoe I have purchased many of Nike's latest and greatest running shoes and always wound up reverting to sticking with my tried and true Lunar's. I had some initial skepticism when I saw the Zoom Fly 3's but had no choice but to try them when my Lunar's really had to retire after thousands of miles running on them. After logging almost 100 miles on my new Zoom Fly 3's, I have been nothing short of amazed at the overall greatness of this shoe. It hits the mark on all my running nuances such as long run comfort, durability, and energy return. To top it off, the flexibility with the shoe is another understated and underestimated feature. It is incredibly light yet stable so if you have a quick run in mind or sprints, this shoe can handle that and then some. I feel this shoe can handle any type of run you have in mind regardless of indoor/outdoor.The vaporweave on the exterior allows for great breathability during long runs and I have found little to no overheating on my feet after concluding runs. At the same time, it seems the material is great at repelling water/sweat that may land on them. I don't run outdoors often but i don't imagine running in rain would be a problem with these either. The overall fit is true to size in my opinion with a sleeker focus on the shoe's design. I can see some runners with wider feet taking issue with the fit but for me I love and appreciate its sleek design. In conclusion, this has been the best running shoe I have purchased. I have actually improved on speed of my runs on top of the already long duration so the shoe's amazing energy return has left me with little to no discomfort during and after long runs. Time will tell if it surpasses my love for Lunar Eclipse and whether or not I can still be running in these for a decade like the Eclipse but it looks very promising especially with the shoes durability.... Quarantining with my Zoom Fly 3
17 April 2020
These shoes definitely delivered on the responsiveness and their ability to help conserve energy while providing more power with each stride. It does however make you adjust your gait to feel comfortable, which is good because it pushes you toward a more efficient gait pattern but still a strange feeling during the first use.One thing which was very strange when I wear them is that the shoe gives a feeling of absent lateral support in the heal. Although I haven't hit a terrain which has been demanding in my limit use, I feel that I wouldn't wear these on anything other than good or known road conditions. I say this again due to the fact that I do not trust there lateral support and would fear turning in ankle in more challenging terrain.Overall, this is a great ... MoreThese shoes definitely delivered on the responsiveness and their ability to help conserve energy while providing more power with each stride. Which is one of the reasons I purchased the shoe, yet, could be a deterrent for other runners who are comfortable with their well established, while potentially less efficient gait pattern.... One of the best shoes you can own. It's second to none to the Vaporfly in performance. The carbon fiber plate does very well to propel you forward. The springy feeling of the carbon and foam set up requires precision and endurance to maintain speed. These shoes are meant to go fast as a training shoes for advance or Pro athletes. I would not advise these shoes to beginners. It requires a lot of core and stamina to maintain good stability and balance to run these shoes to their potential. It's like driving a Porsche on your first DMV driving test. I would not use these shoes for walking or sightseeing. I find the carbon plate would spring me forward when I least expect it. Trainer to the Vaporfly Next%
2 August 2020
I bought this shoe as a trainer to the Vaporfly Next% because if you don't already know the Next% doesn't last long. The ZF3 fits true to size for me and is heavily cushioned with React Foam especially in the forefoot area which is where I need it the most as a forefoot striker. I feel confident that my feet are protected with the level of cushioning. There are a couple of things that I dislike about the shoes however. First, the shoe is heavy (bottom heavy to be exact). With the combination of the CF plate and the React foam, you don't really feel any propulsion compared to when the plate is paired with ZoomX. Also, what bothered me the most is the heel slippage! I tried the runners knot, tying the laces tight, and trying different socks but my heel still slips. ... MoreI bought this shoe as a trainer to the Vaporfly Next% because if you don't already know the Next% doesn't last long.
