Best Feature(s):New version 2 of the Z50 which I wanted to get years back. Good image quality, fast, quiet , bright viewfinder and many features too.Performance:Not fully tested yet as trying to understand its function first. It has been 25 years since I last handled the Nikon film version cameras - F90 and F401s.Value For Money:Yes For the Kit set - 16-50mm & 50-250mm.I have compared Sony RX100 VII, Canon R8, Fujifilm T-50 and Nikon Z50II. Ultimately I chose Nikon cos of my love for that brand and its camera range and quality.

So glad I found a real camera store. Went in looking for the frameless Z5 or the Z50, not understanding which would be better for standard family photography plus photographing my granddaughters volleyball. Several features of the Z50 explained to me by the knowledgeable rep made the selection of the Z50 superior to the Z5. The great thing is the price at this company was less than exactly the same Nikon camera kit at Best Buy. Best Buy could not explain the features adequately for me to make a purchase decision.

I've had multiple SLR cameras over the years. I am 71 years young and just bought the best Nikon I've ever had. And, I purchased the Z50II mirrorless camera with two lens kit. One of my worst problems with previous cameras was getting the focus right. This camera has a really intelligent focusing system. When I shoot pictures of my kids and grandkids, I can see multiple areas (usually the facial expressions or the eyes) that are being used for focusing on the subject(s).Another feature I really enjoy is that the built-in flash is rarely needed to fill in a flash so the subject is bright enough. It’s the first I had this compact mirror less camera. I find it easy to learn how to use it with simple instructions/suggestions to follow. Before I have point and shoot camera, at my age of 76 years old I thought I will have problem using it. I just came back on tour in Europe and to my surprise, all my pictures are sooo beautiful. I felt like a real pro photographer.
I have owned and used APSC sensor cameras from Sony, Canon, and Fuji for quite a few years now but never owned one from Nikon. So when I came across this Z50 ii here on B&H’s website I decided to take a chance and order it. Fast forward a couple weeks and I can honestly say this camera punches way above its weight class! The amount of features Nikon has stuffed into this camera is amazing. The autofocus is equal to, and maybe better than the Sony a6700 that I own, and that’s saying a lot! The colors from straight out of the camera are very well presented, and having many different presets to choose from is really a fun experience. The size of the body is just right, not too small, not too big, and the weight feels nice in the hand. The viewfinder, and LCD screen are ... The colors from straight out of the camera are very well presented, and having many different presets to choose from is really a fun experience. The size of the body is just right, not too small, not too big, and the weight feels nice in the hand. The viewfinder, and LCD screen are both nice and bright with good resolution, button placement and feel are also good. The images this camera produces are .. how can I put it.. gorgeous! I know the sensor is a bit old, and it doesn’t have the most megapixels, but that does not seem to hinder the results in any way. I’ve paired my Z50 ii with lenses from Viltrox, as well as Sigma, and the images coming out of this camera are beautiful! I cannot say enough nice things about them. As far as this camera not having IBIS.? It doesn’t need it. Depending on focal length, and your experience, hand holding shots in low light is not a problem. You will get great results with a fast enough lens attached. My one and only complaint is the front wheel. It does feel a bit cheap, but that’s nothing that would stop me from buying this camera again. Anyway I could go on singing the praises of this camera, but I’m running out of room here! In closing, this camera is an absolute great buy, and one I will be keeping for a long time..
I went from the Nikon Z50 to the Z50ii specifically for the Expeed 7 and the goodies (3D tracking specifically) it brought with it! While it still uses the old D500 20.9MP sensor without IBIS, I am not bothered by that much (IBIS would have been nice for the lenses without stab) - the body itself is better than the Z50 in many ways - flip out screen, USB-C, Headphone jack for wired remote release, better placement of SD card, slightly bigger yields better grip, buttons instead of touchscreen. The Bad: RAW files not supported in Affinity or DXO yet and Hotshoe requires a iTTL flash (old TTL flash works as manual only now - it worked on Z50), but that's it for now!
It seems that so many people are looking for a replacement for the D500 and are trying to make this camera that replacement. However, if you are looking for a replacement for the D500, you are going to be disappointed. But remember, Nikon never said that this is a D500 replacement. It's marketed as a Z50 replacement and it does a wonderful job of replacing that camera. I bought the Z50II with 16-50mm lens as a lightweight carry anywhere camera and it fits the bill perfectly. It's quick to focus and provides great image quality. It's a nice little camera that I'm very happy with. The 16-50mm lens is very sharp, too. I have a Z8 for those times when I want the best image quality and/or other high-end features, but the Z50II is excellent for a daily carry camera.
I had the original Z50 for a few years and loved it. I ordered the Z50II as soon as it was announced, and it jus’ got here today (02DEC2024). It is FAST FAST FAST. I love the new bright EVF (electronic viewfinder). It feels great in the hand, too. Jus’ slightly larger than the original Z50, but slightly smaller than my Nikon Z6II (full frame). I connected the FTZII adapter with the Nikon 18-300 lens, and it works flawlessly. Images are super sharp even at 1/80 shutter speed thanks to the built-in VR on the lens. Note: This body does not have built in VR so make sure you use lenses that do, or it will def affect your ability to shoot in low light without raising your ISO real high. If this camera body had dual card slots and built in VR it would be perfect, but for ... MoreI had the original Z50 for a few years and loved it. If this camera body had dual card slots and built in VR it would be perfect, but for the price (under $1,000), you honestly cannot complain about the Z50II from Nikon. I also like how you can charge the battery internally via a USB-C cable. I like it because you can “charge on the fly” using a portable charger without even removing the battery. I will still give it 5 stars. I’d give it a 4.5 if I could only because I’d really prefer to have dual card slots and built-in VR. But again……cannot complain!
I had been waiting for this upgrade for around 2 years thinking that they have a winner here, they just need to keep evolving it, right? Well sort of, they have made many functions much easier to use, there is a button to change the release mode on the back and two buttons on the front you can make your own and the AE-Land AF-L button on the back can be reprogrammed for focus and that's handy. I am a fan of the original sensor but still a little disappointed they didn't upgrade it. The video had to stay at 4K because of the sensor size but now goes to 60p and that's handy. The rear screen on a pivot post is very handy. In all I'm happy to have this camera and all my Z glass works with it.
This is a very worthy upgrade to the original Z50. I have the Z8 and the auto focus is spectacular, equal to the Z9. This Z50 ii appears to be equal to both of these cameras. It has the same processor. I use it a lot for wildlife photography as it gives me the added crop factor. My Tamron 150-500mm lens becomes the equivalent of 750mm. It finds the eyes of wildlife even at a distance. The Z50 ii has all the capabilities as my Z8 with HDR, bracketing, etc. The only problem at this point is not with Nikon, but Adobe. They haven't updated Lightroom to support the Z50 ii RAW files. That will happen shortly I'm sure.
