After unpacking my new Ninja, i decided on making oysters Rockefeller. I am a caterer/chef. My fridge is always stuffed with leftover goodies. ( lucky me:) I am a absolute Oyster lover.Open the oysters, drain them, fill each with: 4 drops of dry white wine, a mixture of creme fraiche, 1 egg yolk, peper, bit of parmesan chees and chapped fresh herbs. Sprinkle with breadcrumbs, a little knob of buttter on top. Put a piece of parchment baking paper (I use the round perforated sheets the chinese us for their steaming baskets) at the bottem of your air fryer. Lay the oysters as straight as possible next to each other, so they wont tupple over, 10 minutes on 200C. (Depending on size oysters! Check after 5 minutes 🫣To good to be true.
This air fryer is brilliant. It cooks everything better than my oven and cooks them faster. It uses less fat, less energy and is a doodle to clean. It is versatile - I have warmed pies, roasted meat, fish and veg and even made omelettes in it. It has completely replaced my oven. I live alone and I was worried this would be too large - but the capacity is excellent as I can cook a piece of fish, some chips and roast some veg all at the same time (and with a lot less oil). It also easily copes with larger quantities when I am cooking for friends too. Since buying this air fryer I have gone from using my oven everyday to not switching it on ever. I could live without an oven in my kitchen now - but I would not be without this air fryer.
Pros - Cooks some things really well. No mess. Cleans easily. Very non-stick. Reduced cooking smells. Probably ideal for non-cooks to make an easy meal. Cooks chicken portions, fish, sausages and bacon very well. Great for English breakfast for 1, although eggs rubbery.Cons - Expensive for what it is. Deep capacity seems pointless as food not directly exposed to heating element does not brown. Need to move food constantly to ensure even cooking. If you can't turn food over (eg pizza) it tends to get burnt on top while uncooked underneath. Tried a cake on the bake setting according to recommended adaptations of the recipe. Came out well done on top while raw beneath. No recipes using roast or bake setting in the enclosed booklet.
Easy to use and even better easy to clean. I did buy a silicon liner which i can throw in the dishwasher, makes that even better. It is brilliant for frozen items like chips and ready meals. I usually cook from scratch and have struggled with timings, but it is a learning curve and I am getting there.Recipes are a problem, I bought a book which turned out to be more suited to the American market. Back to trial and error.I have made the crispiest ever chicken in breadcrumbs, savoury toad in the hole, cinnamon swirls and perfect jacket potatoes and lots more. Going to try baking next.The small amount of oil used is the bonus for me and of course it uses less electricity. There are only the two of us so the size is fine, I would think a family might have to batch cook.
