Picked this up when it was on sale and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. I've played the first 2 stories so far and I really enjoyed them. Gives the same great vibes you get from the movies. You can either play solo or play co-op with someone else which I love, and is also a great game if you have a kid who enjoys video games.

If you've enjoyed these on the PS3 or X360 then you won't get any complaints here. HOWEVER, the glitches from the original games are still present in this version as well so make backup saves or risk starting all over again if you're a trophy hunter or a completionist. Parents, please play this with your children from time to time as a handful of these levels are pretty insane and complex even for children ages 10 under to solve. Few levels especially the Forbidden Forest and dungeons become outright horror-esque game levels. Parental Guidance is suggested just a smidge.

I bought this game for a friend's birthday. He was a huge Harry Potter fan and I thought he would like this. We have played two player together and it was fun. It was a little too easy. The Lego and Harry Potter imagery is cute I will say. But coming from someone who loves Mario, Sonic, and Zelda games, this was way too basic. Great price for a gift but I don't need to buy this myself.

I was apprehensive at first because I love Harry Potter but all the switch has is Lego Harry Potter. It was on sale so I bought it to play with my 7 year old on his switch console. I love all the features it has and there are a lot of coins you can get and plenty to discover. We have been enjoying it very much. Side note: you cannot do two player mode until you finish the first level and it will let you know, but you have to configure the remotes in the settings to be in two player mode. So get it ready for when you gather enough characters that you can play.
If you're a completionist... do not buy. I am a Lego game fan and love collecting all bricks, but this game is broken. Certain levels i cant "Free Play" because the character is between a wall and dies instantly. The only way around this is to start the game from the beginning. Other levels dont load the walls peoperly. You can look online for the full list of glitches. Same glitchs extend to PS4 version.
The game is good overall. But it's super clear it wasn't meant to be on the switch. Things are glitch and difficult and sometimes the controls aren't great. The combat on switch is hahahhaha. That's the best way to describe it. But you get used to it. At least it's messed up with some consistency. Entertaining. For $20 it's a four star all day.
A blast for Potterheads. Clever puzzles and challenging at times without being overwhelming. Some nice comedic spins on the source material. Plus, there’s just a LOT of game here for the buck. One complaint? I wish you could skip the cut scenes after you’ve seen them the first time. It makes playing through a second time a bit more of a patience tester than it ought to be.
These games are the ones that got me into lego games. I used to think they were just for kids, and they're still suitable for kids. But these are funny and engaging, and fun ways to experience stories that you love in a way that you will remember. I love that they don't actually lift the voices from the movies, but the characters use grunts and pantomime to get the points across, and it's beautiful. The newer lego games started using voice, and lifting text from the movies. It constrains the experience a lot more, and ruined them for me, honestly. These used to be more playful and strayed slightly from the source. Now they're stuck to it, and stuck to the scripts, and they're not as good.
Pros: For Harry Potter fans, it is a delight. Lego pokes fun at the storyline it an inventive and clever way.Great for Harry Potter obsessed singletons or couples. It half an action game and half a puzzle. The puzzles can be incredibly frustrating at times but mostly in a satisfying way. There are plenty of online walkthroughs though if you get truly stumped. The Nintendo switch version of Harry Potter from the e-shop seems tempting (I got it at first) but crashes a lot so definitely buy the physical card version. There is nothing worse then losing an entire game's progress.Cons: There are a few switches in controls between Years 1-4 and Years 5-7. Other characters can get in the way or you can stuck behind/in/on objects which if your doing the 2 player version means 1 player can't play until you switch rooms. This happens rarely but when it does is very very annoying.
This game is an absolute blast to play! I originally played this on the Nintendo DS, and remember some parts of it being infuriating. I am here to tell you that this is a completely different game! Fans of the books AND movies will appreciate this, even folks that think that they've outgrown the series. While playing this, I had such joy for much of it, and was happy to share that joy with others while streaming on Twitch! There are only a few things, thus far, that keep me from giving it a 5 (though MAN its so close!) The game crashed the first time I played it, but that has NOT happened again since, so i'm writing it off as a fluke. The other part that can be kinda infuriating is trying to trigger the spell that you want on the item that you want every time. SO ... MoreThis game is an absolute blast to play! The game crashed the first time I played it, but that has NOT happened again since, so i'm writing it off as a fluke. The other part that can be kinda infuriating is trying to trigger the spell that you want on the item that you want every time. SO MANY SPELLS/ACTIONS require you to use the same button, and although you think that you're casting "Wingardium Leviosa" on a certain object, another one responds OR something else happens entirely (or, you're trying to use the Triangle button to use one of the vehicles and you end up trading characters- which is ALSO what the triangle button does). For the most part, though, its not THAT hard to strugglebus through those difficulties. The gameplay is refreshingly easy most of the time, so its fun just to sit back, relax and explore Hogwarts again and again. The game has high replayability for me, as a completionist, once I finish the game and unlock all of the spells/enchantments/powers that each character has to offer, I can then replay the whole game and get all of the extras I couldn't get the first time. SO Fun, delightful and refreshing!
