I waited to get a switch until the OLED came out so I can’t compare it directly with the original myself but I definitely like the stand and screen size better on my OLED than on my roomies switch original. I mainly chose OLED over original for screen size and battery life. I originally got the blue/red model since it’s cheaper but eventually caved and got a pair of white joy cons and they definitely live up to the hype paired with my custom skins. (For anyone wondering my skins are all removable because I applied them to clear cases for the joycons and dock.) My only issue so far is I’m hesitant to take it anywhere because it feels like it’ll snap in half/break really easily. Thin is sleek yea but it doesn’t have much protection even with a clear case and screen ... I keep it in the dock most of the time because I’m paranoid sitting on it will accidentally break it. I’ve had it for a little under a year now and I haven’t had any problems with my dock bending/getting stuck like I’ve seen with OG switches. I actually got my OLED stuck in my roommates dock one terrifying time so now I just move my dock with the device if I wanna use someone else’s tv. There’s occasional connection issues in TV mode when I first connect it. This isn’t a longstanding issue yet but I do see it being a problem in the future. The joy cons have held up alright. Haven’t experienced any drift so far but I have needed to put on thumb grip caps because of how worn down the left stick was. It was getting hard to use but the thumb grip fixed that completely. I really love this system (it’s my only system besides my GameCube) and am happy to see it has a pretty wide variety of game options despite a fairly small device/lower processor. It’s even introduced me to the dark souls franchise and I’m hoping for a port of the other two games in the series.

If you're buying a new switch and will play it at all in portable mode, get the OLED version. The screen is amazing. If you don't know about OLED screens, basically each pixel lights up on its own. You can have a black pixel right next to a white one and the black one will not look gray due to a back light. The colors are vivid and pop, you can tone this down in the settings if you prefer more accurate saturation, but I'm used to over saturated colors on phones so I welcome it here too.Pair the OLED colors and contrast with the fact that it's a bigger screen and you have a portable gaming winner! The kickstand is superb compared to the original model. The dock now has a dedicated lan port which should make downloads faster, I'm fine using WiFi, but this is a feature people were asking for.If you have an original switch should you upgrade? For the longest time I didn't as I didn't see a point on upgrading. That was until I saw the OLED screen in person. I immediately ordered one for myself and am kicking myself for not doing it earlier. If you only play docked then it wouldn't be worth the upgrade as the experience is the same.

If i want i can hook up to me TV and the controller transforms into 2 separate controllers so multiple people can enjoy the switch on any TV to play multiplayer games. The best part is when im playing it the controller is way bigger than trying to play games on my cell phone so i have 0 trouble controlling the games it works great.

Nintendo hit a home run when they made this console! Not only can I play my games on the tv but I can also take the console out of the dock and play it handheld mode. The handheld mode comes in handy when a tv is occupied by another one of my family members. I can also buy another dock and connect the console to other TVs in my house. I would definitely recommend this to any consumer that's looking for some old school and current gen games to play. Definitely worth the price tag for the oled screen which display sharper images. Plays games really well with little to no lag or judder. The storage capacity is not that bad either but I do recommend upgrading if you're planning to purchase the old school nes, snes, n64, and Genesis collections. I think my only complaint ... I think my only complaint about the console is that it doesn't do upgraded resolution. Games only display up to a max of 1080. With todays new consoles like Xbox and PS5 I was hoping to get some kind of 4K experience out of the console even if it wasn't native resolution. All that said, it's still a console worth owning and I'm happy with my purchase.
I absolutely love the Nintendo Switch OLED! I bought this for myself to play games in bed while the wife watches one of her shows. I also got it to introduce and play video games with my kids. I eventually bought myself a steam deck and gave the OLED Switch to the kiddos. They absolutely love playing pretty much any game i get for them and it has given us some memorable fun times! Dont buy one expecting to play AAA titles or visually demanding games with top graphics and controls because it just doesnt have the power to do so. You can still play some pretty demanding games but I'd rather do that on the PC, Steam Deck, or streaming them via a service like geforce now or XBOX Gamepass. Definitely buy one of you want to introduce your kids to video games and have fun playing with them. The JOYCON controllers are in fact named well because you will be conned out of a good chunk of change when you get the inevitable stick drift. I recommend gettin an extra set of joycons and doing a Hall Sensor replacement kit through Gulikit or i think ifixit has an option as well. This way you wont ever have to replace your joycons again, cause the asking price for a new one is ridiculous. Also Nintendo is horrible with shared libraries and makes it a hastle to say switch from your oled to the same game on your switch lite. This legitimately made me mad, why should i have to buy a game twice to play it on my lite when im already paying for a family plan. Other than Nintendos predatory practices its a great device. I 1000% recommend getting Best Buys warranty on it as it is one of the best warranties you can buy for the switch as well as anything you get from BB. Ive never once had an issue with getting what i need/want with a warranty from Best Buy. Shoot they replaced my 2 year old 4K 65 INCH LG CX AT 0 COST TO ME.
I am a complete gaming nerd and had the red box (second edition) Switch and finally decided after dealing with wobbly joy cons and a sub par screen in handheld mode, which made me never use it in handheld mode, decided to upgrade to the white OLED Model. Words cannot describe the quality upgrade in every aspect of the system. Let's start with build quality. This has newly designed joy con rails on each side of the console, the front half material is metal and the screen is actually glass, making a gentle wipe with a screen cleaning cloth actually able to clean the screen, the back is now a very hard matte plastic with the kickstand now the length of the entire console, it's on amazing smooth moving hinges and you can adjust it's angle to suite how you are playing in ... Next the near inch larger OLED screen, I new it would be an improvement, but it is phenomenal, I now only play my Switch in n portable and am replaying games just to see them on that gorgeous screen, I have a very expensive TV, but it's 4K, Dolby Vision, HDR10, the Switch does not utilize my TV like my Xbox Series does. But it does utilize that gorgeous built-in OLED screen. Performance, OK so they say it's the same Tegra X1 as the red box Switch, something is improved, games run smoother, it has a smaller cooling fan that runs half as often. Every demanding game looks and runs more fluidly, some of that is the screen and how phenomenal it looks, but try I'm talking performance wise as well, I've heard it from other upgraders too. Now let's go to audio, it has all new speakers, now reviews said it's not a huge difference, it's a huge improvement trust me, max volume they are louder, and best way to describe it is just bigger sounding. No distortion, just another quality improvement that makes handheld play that much better. It also has a much better fitting dock. I'm pleased to say the battery life is the same as the V2 (red box) Switch, 4-9 hours depending what your playing. It actually takes less energy to run an OLED because there is no backlight the pixels themselves light up or for black completely turn off, why it has much deeper blacks. You get twice the onboard storage 64GB instead of the regular Switch's 32GB, and of course there is still the Micro SD expansion card slot to add more storage. For 50 more dollars than the standard Switch model you are getting improvements in every category, it's a tad heavier, but that's because of the better build quality and it's a tiny tiny bit bigger. And the design change goes internal, just know the internals layout has been revised in this model the changes aren't just skin deep. It is worth upgrading even if you already have the standard Switch. It's extremely worth upgrading, I now play it everywhere and it's so solidly built it actually feels like it it's not going to break, I would not drop it, but it definitely has a premium build quality as it is the premium Switch. I am so glad I upgraded. If your buying a Switch the 50 dollars extra is easily easily worth it.
It’s been tough few years, have to say when my wife wasn’t awake turn to our Switch to unwind. Got it in 2019, right before the upgraded battery release of base model. It wasn’t lasting very long before needing to recharge on the little charging stand I’d got. Heard the OLED model was better in a few ways. It’s great the screen is bigger, the colors do jump out at you. Played NMS and wow! The end of the day what I think this model does best is the battery life. First week it lasted over 7 hours before needing a charge. Don’t normally play that long, have to say Factrio is a game that hooked me in. Can play and listen to audiobook or podcast on sleepless nights. When I did, turned on stop watch and two times over 7 hours.Highly recommend a larger SD card. We have ... We have the 256GB in first and OLED the ACNH 512GB. It doesn’t take long to fill up cards with many games having more then one title on them. Looking at you Bioshock, Assassin’s Creed Enzo collection, and Borderlands. Not to mention if you want to get some of the great games that are digital only.It has a much softer sounding fan, stays cooler when playing as well. At the end it’s the battery that’s not made me regret getting us a second Switch.
I’ve had both the original launch Switch and now the OLED. If I still had my original Switch, I am not entirely sure if I would have upgraded to the OLED, but since I sold my old Switch a couple years ago it made sense to buy the best/newest model. Now with that being said, I will hands down say that the best thing about the Switch OLED is the screen. If you’re going to play this handheld mode, then I would absolutely recommend the OLED model. The screen is much more vibrant, bright, crispier, and bigger of course. It makes playing in handheld mode that much better of an experience. I really wish they would have made some sort of upgrade to the processing power of the Switch, even if it was minimal. That would have really hit the OLED switch out of the park. There ... There are times where I feel the system is simply just struggling. Even when using the eshop to browse games to buy. Overall, super fun family console. You can’t go wrong with all the Nintendo exclusives and you can’t play them anywhere else. The only other gripe I have besides no performance upgrade with the Switch OLED is that I wish they would make more 1st party Nintendo games and stop porting games from the Wii-U. Let’s see some more Switch exclusives Nintendo!! Overall, super fun console and the ability to pick up a game exactly where you left off on your TV is absolutely amazing. Especially having kids, I find myself having more time to game since I can play in handheld mode.
I’ll start by saying unless you have a purpose for two switches, your a first timer or replacing a broken console it’s not worth replacing.I have a two year old switch that’s buttons are bugging out, the stand has broken and I want to build a new acnh island without replacing my old island. The Oled screen is so much crisper and bigger it’s beautiful the console feels better in your hand and is matte. The white looks sleek and modern. Don’t get me wrong — the Nintendo Switch is not a bad console by ANY means! I even have the most recent non-OLED version. HOWEVER, the OLED version is just not reliable. I’m on my second console and will be returning it once and for all. The first one had super stiff buttons on one of the joy-cons, and the second (one I will be returning) had a loose joystick on one of them. There is no excuse as to why 2/2 consoles come with defective controllers. I had battery issues with my current Joy-cons, but no defects that inhibit gameplay like this. Regarding the console itself, the screen does have outstanding colors, though its low resolution means that there is pink/green color fringing in high-contrast areas. Not to mention that many games were designed with the old ... MoreDon’t get me wrong — the Nintendo Switch is not a bad console by ANY means! I even have the most recent non-OLED version. Regarding the console itself, the screen does have outstanding colors, though its low resolution means that there is pink/green color fringing in high-contrast areas. Not to mention that many games were designed with the old Switch in-mind, meaning not many moments of true black anyway. Additionally, the kickstand is a great improvement, but pulling it out could result in pulling out the back of the console as well. And don’t forget — all the internals are the same, including battery, processor, and output resolution. Overall, if you’re new to the Switch system and want to test your luck, you MIGHT be in for a treat, but it’s just hard to justify when the next-tier Switch has the same performance and better quality control.
