The kids understand the controls so they are easy to use. We highly recommend it.

My partner and I love the game! He was so excited for it when we received it that we played it that same night. We loved everything about it, the extra characters, the more detailed board games, the extra mini games and everything in between. The ONLY down fall we wuickly realized was.. that we couldn't use our remote controls with this game (we got some hecause the nintendo switch remotes are super tiny).. it only allows you to play the game with the tiny switch remotes.. so that was our only dislike for the game. other than that, its a great game. time flies when you play it.

Like Re-Visiting Childhood!

It's been years since I played a Mario Party game, not since I used to own an N64 or GameCube. A childhood friend of mine had bought a new Switch for his daughter's birthday party so he gifted me their old Switch -- which prompted me to take a plunge and re-visit the world of Mario Party (in anticipation for "Mario Party Superstars") by buying this gem. I was slightly concerned about the Switch controllers and how the game would play after so many years away from it...before I knew it, an hour flew by and I was getting ready to start a new game! It is a very fun play, with mini-games galore that both kids and adults can get into seamlessly! I have since picked up the new "Mario Party Superstars", but I keep returning to this game when my friends get to meet up. All that's needed is just two sets of Joy-Con controllers for four people to play (as each Joy-Con can a player), and a good chunk of time to dedicate to play time since it is addicting! Definitely a great buy if you are, or have previously been, a fan of the series!

Mario Party Superstars

The mini game choices are great. I like all of the ones that are available to play. The boards are fun and different! Being able to customize your own party card is also a nice touch. You can switch the music for the boards with the original music or remix that was made for the game in the options once you’ve already played the board once. Really nice feature for those people that like the classic music from many years ago! Online play is a plus. Stickers are a fun way to communicate with people online and just in general are fun all together! Even my 5 and 7 year old have fun with with me and others. 9/10 rating for me. Would be 10/10 if the game had a couple more characters. That’s it!

Mario Party Superstars: A great return to form!
4 December 2021

Very good return to form for Mario Party finally!!!I've been with the series since the start, and this game I feel is what the series has been needing for quite some time. A great celebration of the series as a whole (though the focus is more on the N64 titles, which I'm okay with), I think it really delivers what Top 100 failed to do: Give us a good proper Mario Party that celebrates the series. My personal opinions, there are some mini-games I do wish this game chose over the ones it did, but it has a solid line-up overall I feel. They did great with the boards, and even the ones I was meh about in their original incarnations, what they did to rebalance and fix those boards, they did an excellent job here. The people who worked on this I feel really gets the series. I do think 5 boards is a bit small (iirc, the first Mario Party had 8), so I hope to see more boards in DLC, but what they have are a lot of fun.The remastered music is great too. I love what they did with the boards, even giving nice remixes for the last 5 turns. I enjoy you can choose to listen to the original board tracks too once you beat a board. I also really love that they took their time to remaster every song from every mini-game chosen, unlike the Top 100.I'll even go as far to say that some of the few things I did enjoy in Super Mario Party, they brought back into this game, while leaving the stuff I found myself not liking, out. The pacing is SO much faster like the older titles, and you're not having to wait out so many unnecessary animations just to make the game longer. 10 turns should not take an hour!I also really like that they rebalanced the items system so it's not completely broken like in Super. It feels much more balanced and it's nice to see stars at 20 coins again, and Golden Pipes not being super busted. While there's still a couple of games in this series I do prefer, I definitely think this is a top Mario Party and the best this series has had to offer for a long time. If you're a fan of the series, I highly recommend picking it up, I really do think there's something in here for every fan, both old and new.

One of the biggest shocks of 2018
18 October 2021

Recent Mario Party games were getting more underrated before this game came out, I was a bit scared that this was going to follow that trend, and with it being called SUPER Mario Party, there really were some shoes to fill. And, in my opinion, I think this game did a phenomenal job with doing that, as it just might be one of the funnest and most intriguing games on the Switch so far. The presentation, the vast amount of fun mini-games, the immersive way to go to each mode, the Mario Party mode, the river canoe mode, the roster, and multiplayer are all top notch and fantastic. and with Bowser being PLAYABLE, and just joining the fun without acutally making it hard on us. This is definitely a great package that has more than enough to live up to it's name, as it is one super fun time all around. However, despite how much fun this game is, i's still functional and fun, but it's kind of lame to have so little to do online. The other thing I found annoying is how this game does not let you play in any other mode except for with just one joycon. I fully understand why this is, so that more people can join in, as well as really emphasize the HD rumble, which, to this games credit, does work very well. But, it can be very annoying when you want to play this on the go only to have to set it on a table or something since the handheld mode won't work. Neither will the Pro Controller. Again, I do appreciate the emersion and better accessibility, but having an option to at least toggle handheld or Pro Controller mode would have been really nice. Thankfully, the excellent HD rumble in the joycon makes it much more worthwhile than it would be if it were a controller without the HD rumble. Besides that, it's really hard not to love this game for the amount of great times it brings, which is why I recommend this game to anyone who are fans of the Mario Party series, and/or anyone with a Switch, because even someone like me who has never touched a game in the series up until now can say with confidence that this game, despite it's flaws, is loaded with great times all around.

The Super in Super Mario Party means it's the best
27 December 2020

This might be my favorite Mario Party game. Nintendo finally returned Mario Party to its classic form. The main mode involved traversing a multi-route board, collecting coins to trade in for a star, and collecting stars to win the game. No more shared carts. Everyone can go their own path. Although they redid how the points system works (for example, 10 coins buys a star, not 20 coins), it all seems to work out in the end. If you enjoyed a group aspect of the 2 previous 2 Mario games, and you would like a more routes in your boards, partner party might be the game mode for you. If you enjoyed a group aspect of the 2 previous 2 Mario games, and you would like a more routes in your boards, partner party might be the game mode for you. The player is paired up with a partner, they share dice rolls and they can roam the board freely. Besides the 2 main modes of Mario Party and Partner Party, if you like the minigames but don't like the boards, there are plenty of other options. River Survival has a team of 4 traversing down a rapids river, racing to meet the finish line before time runs out, extending their time with 4-player co-op minigames. Sound stage is a series of fun rhythm based motion games. Challenge Road challenges players not only to win the minigames, but also to reach certain goals, sometimes even asking for perfection. Speaking of minigames, Super Mario Party manages to balance motion control minigames and button pressing minigames perfectly, something the previous few Mario Party games struggled to do. I didn't get to play in Toad's Rec Room because I don't know someone else locally with a Switch and Super Mario Party, but from what I've seen, it looks like mad fun.Super Mario Party starts the player out with 16 characters, then has the player unlock another 4 characters, for a grand total of 20 characters. The most stand out character would have to be Bowser because this is first game in which Bowser is a playable character (not counting Mario Party 10 because he was still an enemy character). In this Mario Party game, players choose their character right after the home screen, unlike previous Mario Party games, in which character selection happened after mode selection. New to this version of Mario Party is that all the characters comes with special dice, which can either give you coins instead of spaces or gives a different balances of spaces moved. Now character selection is not just merely choosing a favorite character, but it now involves choosing based off their dice. Furthermore, the board game modes can give the player the option to call other characters as allies. When the player calls upon these allies, they get their dice, giving them more dice options. This gives the game a layer of complexity without overdoing it on dice, like Mario Party 4 did.Of course, Super Mario Party's biggest weakness is the small amount of game boards. Both Mario Party and Partner Party have only 4 game boards. In all honesty, though the past few Mario Party games have suffered from this, and only the Nintendo 64 and GameCube Mario Party games escape it. Besides this glaring weakness, I can easily declare Super Mario Party my favorite Mario Party.

What Mario Party: The Top 100 should have been

Mario Party: Superstars is what Mario Party: The Top 100 should have been. It had 100 minigames spanning the 10 mainline games, and every game like it belongs. It's fun to say "I remember this minigame," and it's just as fun to say "Oh, I almost forgot about that minigame." All 6 boards span across the 3 Nintendo 64 Mario Party games. Sometimes it can be a jarring difference to go from a Mario Party 1 board to a Mario Party 2 board to a Mario Party 3 board, but Mario Party: Superstars somehow makes it work. This game really rides on the nostalgia. The opening sequence and the hub world menu points back to the opening and hub world of the first Mario Party. Since it's kind of hard to make a story mode out a compilation game, Mario Party: Superstars gives single player achievements to do. Some require achieving specific goals in specific boards, other require gamers to reach a huge accomplishment within a single party, yet other require the player to rack up a career high over several playthroughs. It provides its own fun to see if you get the achievement over winning the party, and it's even more fun to see if you can get the achievement, and then come back from behind to become the superstar. My biggest complaint is the lack of motion control games. When Mario Party introduced motion control minigames in Mario Party 8, I never felt like the motions controls were forced. They could have worked in Mario Party: Super Stars. Just like with Super Mario Party, a grand total of 6 boards feels underwhelming for a greatest hits Mario Party game. I would have like to see 9 boards: 3 from each of the Nintendo 64 Mario Party games. Overall, this may be my favorite Mario Party because it just may be the best Mario Party game. Also, fun fact: your cat may be interested in the vine swinging minigame!
