A Vastly Underrated console that got some undeserved flak. For most gamers who had half a brain we knew this was a new console coming out no matter what some of the mindless people say and it is still fun to play on with a pretty great game though small game library. The Wii U also did what the first generation Wii did which was have backwards compatibility for Wii games so you had not only the Wii U game library but also the Wii game library you could play on this console. Sadly the lack of third party support is what really hurt the Wii U as while early in its life there were some decent third party games they quickly dried up a year later. The gamepad functionality was also underused in most third party games with a few exceptions which was unfortunate. After owning the original Wii console, the Wii U, and after spending a significant amount time playing the Switch, I felt compelled to provide my thoughts on the oft-maligned Wii U. The Wii U is an excellent, paradox of a system that has much in common with both the Wii and the Switch consoles, so much so in fact that consumers felt cheated by Nintendo, refusing to buy the Wii U because Nintendo dropped the ball while marketing the system, failing to clear up any of the confusion that was seemingly always attached to the Wii U. Ironically enough, Nintendo would release the Switch, a console that is essentially the same as the Wii U, with a few obvious improvements for those familiar with the consoles. Ironically enough, Nintendo would release the Switch, a console that is essentially the same as the Wii U, with a few obvious improvements for those familiar with the consoles. Even the games that were made for the Wii U are being rereleased for the Switch because Nintendo didn't want to waste the opportunity to provide Nintendo fans with absolute gems of the Nintendo catalogue such as: Breath of the Wild, Mariokart 8, Topical Freeze, Super Mario 3D World, and Captain Toads Treasure Tracker, just to name a few. Breath of the Wild and Tropical Freeze have been called one of the very best of their genre, respectively, and Mariokart 8 is debatably one of the best kart games in the series. In addition to the many hits released during its run, the Wii U comes with the innovative gamepad which allows the player to play cooperatively, but separately as the gamer using the gamepad can play along with 1-3 players on the actual console. This is great for the gamer with a significant other who wants to watch TV while you play Wii U games on the gamepad, or for the parent who is tired of watching the kids play Marioparty 10 for the millionth time. The major issue with the gamepad which was later rectified for the Switch, is portability as the gamepad can only be taken a short distance away from the main console, this was frustrating to learn the first time I moved around while using the gamepad, rounding a corner and losing connection to the console. The Wii U still looks great in 2022 and is a rational choice for anyone who is debating revisiting older consoles. I truly feel that the Wii U is just a Switch, except with a gamepad that can't be taken outside of the house, which is obviously a big difference, but the release of the Switch feels more like a slight to Nintendo fans than what the release of the Wii U was following the Wii. The Wii U might just be the most misunderstood and underappreciated console not just made by Nintendo, but possibly of all time, rivaled only by the Dreamcast.

First, I'm reviewing this on the fact that this console is SEVERELY UNDERRATED! It's Nintendo's own fault this magnificent machine ended up the way it did. The graphics are good, the sound design is a real treat; music, sound effects and even menu sounds play just so deliciously good, and even with current technology (sound bars, surround systems, 4K TVs, it all works so amazingly good, it's baffling! Oh, and if you happen to have a micro SD you were using on Switch, and you happen to have an USB stick that can be used as a port for it, you can plug it into your Wii U, and you have a great external storage choice. I'm currently using the 400GB microSDXC UHS-I, and it's working perfectly. Honestly, I am appalled at myself for selling my original Wii U console to get me a Switch, HOWEVER, I am not regretting getting the Switch at all. Now, like with everything, there are some bad things I have to point out. The Wii U starts up SUPER slowly, especially after you've downloaded a few games (and even more if you download them to the main console's memory), and the console AND GamePad themselves are so huge, they take up quite a lot of space. Sadly I no longer have the Wii U stand to place it vertically. And that brings me to the console I bought... Sadly, the LED lights don'twork, so I'm not sure when it's on Spot Pass mode, or when there's a disk inside, or when it's on, or on standby, the GamePad has trouble detecting touch around one of the indentations it has on it, BUT let it be VERY CLEAR it all works as intended except for that part on the touch screen. Will need to have that fixed... Either way, don't pass up on the opportunity to get this console! Especially before the eShop closes!

The most underrated console ever made. This thing is more underrated than the saturn and dreamcast both. Why you ask?If more people knew about the games on this thing they would have got one.The only thing in my opinion that hurt it is it did not come with a sensor bar , and wii mote and nun chuck. The wii game pad is cool but I use my wii mote every chance I get and I use the game pad on wii u games. It actually works well and if you don't like it there are pro contollers. With the wii u , you get access to the wii u game library , the huge wii game library and a ton of virtual console games that also includes gameboy advance, DS , SNES and N64 games.I am telling you this thing trumps the original wii by far.Not only do most wii games display at the higher 480p ... MoreThe most underrated console ever made. With the wii u , you get access to the wii u game library , the huge wii game library and a ton of virtual console games that also includes gameboy advance, DS , SNES and N64 games.I am telling you this thing trumps the original wii by far.Not only do most wii games display at the higher 480p , but the advance and DS games look great on the game pad.You almost have at your finger tips the entire metroid and zelda franchise. That alone is worth owning one for and the gameboy advance is icing on the cake with advance wars , metroid fusion, and mario and luigi superstar saga. You don't need the original wii for gamecube compatibility as most games save for a few are already transfered to the wii or wii u itself. Metroid prime trilogy,Zelda wind waker and twlight princess HD.Resident evil 4 and Okami wii versions.there are a few notable titles missing like paper mario thr thousand year door and a few more but in my opinion the wii u is still the better package.I play my wii u as much as my switch and X box S even now in 2022.The switch is good but if Nintendo could combine the gamecube, ds , advance, wii and wii u in one package like they tried with wii into a switch 2 or something that would be the ultimate console.sadly the shops are getting close to closing now and if you can get one hop to it cause I promise this is one that will be talked about 15 years later as one of the most underrated ever.
My brother wants to one day own all Nintendo consoles. He asked for one this christmas and I figured a Wii U would be relatively easier in terms of finding the console and games. Took a risk with this one because reviews were good and these guys seemed like good people. I was not disappointed!Packaged arrived very quickly even during the holidays. Console came in better condition than I imagined and was packaged with lots of care. Setting it up went smooth and honestly felt like this was a new console. Graphics look pretty great for an older system. Best part is my brother is loving it even more than we thought!
This is the best system in my opinion. You can get so many old games on it, like Nintendo 64 games, nintendo, super nintendo games, all the old Wii games etc. I like the controller, it's the perfect size and shape, it's slightly heavy but somehow that makes it easier to hold, the screen on the controller is big and a clear picture. I love the sound/music it makes in the background while waiting to choose a game. It reminds me of happy times. I love that you can use a regular Wii controller on it to play mario galaxy and other wii games. The system is sleek and thin, a solid color- like black, not tacky looking like the switch. It works well, never freezes. The only issue is the battery on the controller is going bad, they need to make them more durable, but you ... MoreThis is the best system in my opinion. Not sure if the switch can change batteries if it goes bad. Besides the battery, I've had it for years and it still works great, never freezes, hopefully it'll last as long as the old systems used to.
I had high expectations for DK oldies having followed them on YouTube however I don’t think they give the same care and quality to normal customs unless they are picked for a video. The shipping took longer than advertised and product received looked terrible. The condition was advertised in great condition but it looks so beat up. They claim to perform a thorough cleaning but everything looked dirty. Dirt and dust in the fans and cracks. Deep Scratch marks everywhere. The gamepad screen is unusable with all of the scratches/dents on the screens. It didn’t even come with a stylus. The entire back panel was shredded up with a knife or something from the previous owner. Makes it super uncomfortable to hold. For the amount of money paid I probably should have just gone ... MoreI had high expectations for DK oldies having followed them on YouTube however I don’t think they give the same care and quality to normal customs unless they are picked for a video. The shipping took longer than advertised and product received looked terrible. This felt like playing a game of Russian roulette and I was very unlucky.
This console is insanely underrated. If you are on the fence with buying the Wii or Wii U, I would recommend the Wii U any day of the week! The Wii U has some great titles and the really good ones were ported (or remade) to the Switch! Not to mention that it can play all Wii games on top of the Wii U games. Some memorable titles include The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, Wind Waker HD, Splatoon, Super Mario 3D World, Yoshi's Woolly World, and even Mario Kart 8! This is by far the most controversial sentence I'm ever going to say but I'm going to say it! The Wii U is amongst the greatest 8th generation consoles in terms of actual fun and replay ability. Definitely give it a try!
This could've been the best video game console of the eight generation. I had all of the eight generation consoles, Xbox One, PS4, and the Wii U. However I really only have fond memories of the Wii U, which says something considering I spent considerably more time on the Xbox, I should also mention I got this as a gift, so that likely has something to do with it. So what does this console do that others didn't? Well it had character, and a great, unique game library. So how did it fail? Well I won't get into it here but it was a combination of poor marketing, a bad lineup for the system when you really think about it, and poor choices. That doesn't matter though, this is a review on the console, not the history of it. That doesn't matter though, this is a review on the console, not the history of it. The game library was great, however used the gamepad in a very not compelling way. Only a few games, like Nintendo Land and ZombiU, actually used the gamepad in a unique way, needed for the game. I think these games prove that the gamepad was a legit way to play games and wasn't a gimmick, but most games on the Wii U were games on Wii U, not games for Wii U, if that makes sense. However a combination of a generally great system and great games make this a misunderstood console. 10/10. I should also mention this console has some of the best backwards compatibility ever with the Wii, basically having one built in, you can play all your Wii discs on the Wii U. Just having this alone gives you know reason to not own a Wii U.
The wii u gamepad is an essential part of the wii u console. Very few games work entirely without it, many REQUIRE it to play at all. The gamepad is durable and easy to use and its functionality is incredibly fun with its supported games. It is also infuriating that Nintendo does not support this very complex console any longer. They dont repair it or replace parts. The life expectancy of the rechargable cell in the game pad is short. Nintendo doesnt even offer these, and never did. 3rd party replacement batteries are available online but the manufacture of them is unregulated. You can buy 5 exact replicas and 5 "increased capacity" batteries from the same OR different sellers and its probable half will be dead on arrival, or shortly after. The gamepad itself is unfunctional without the wii u, and nearly essential for most games to play, therefore if you lose or manage to break it, replacement of this now defunct and limited piece is stupidly expensive. Just buying a new wii u is almost worth it. In closing, what an amazing concept and fun execution of a game peripheral. But the lack of nintendo support on something so complex is expensive and disappointing.
