While this rice is more expensive than other brands, Nishiki Premium Rice is my go-to because of the excellent quality. I love the 15lb bag because it saves me from frequent trips, is sturdy and easily clipped closed for freshness. Cooks in my Zojirushi the standard time. I also love the short grain for making onigiri (rice balls).

When soft grain is too expensive, this is a great premium medium grain rice. The grains are all consistent in size and color. All the grains are white and some have opaque spots, but beautiful to look at. When cooked the grains are starchy and stick together. The flavor is sweet and texture is chewy. If you want more starch and sticky texture add more water. I like this for making kimbap or sushi.

And Walmart wants me to pay for Walmart ????

Walmart delivered my items without any packaging and it looked like something ran over them. They’re all dirty on both sides they’re disgusting. Remind you this is food that my family eats. How could Walmart still deliver them in this state??? When I requested to return through FedEx they want me to package them up when they could not even do that????

Beware of tiny bugs
10 June 2023

The rice cooks well, but it is poorly protected on the manufacturer's level and so my bag was infested with weevils. They are "not considered" to be dangerous to your health, and can be "rinsed" off the rice before cooking. NO THANKS. I am not eating any rice that had or has bugs. I will be purchasing a different brand from now on, and checking for those tiny bugs in all rices, flours and grain products

I would really consider this my B-team of rice
4 May 2020

I like this type of medium grain Japonica rice, it has a place in many types of culinary styles. This particular brand isn't the absolute ideal for making sushi, it's sticky but not quite as glutinous as legit Japanese sushi rice, I made some tuna onigiri and they barely held together. It works well for rice pudding and risotto, but I would really consider this my B-team of rice. Much prefer Thai jasmine, but it's not always suitable for all purposes. Not much flavor in this Nishiki rice, I guess it's better than American long grain if I had a choice but it's good to have a bag in a cupboard somewhere.

Kinda stale

I have bought this in savemart and in an Asian store and how much I love this because how soft it is. But when I found this at Walmart with almost half the price I bought and it taste like it’s the lowest quality. When I cooked this it became too dry no matter what I do. While the other rice I bought from Asian store with more than the price stays very great. I supposed with my budget I’ll be sticking with jasmine rice, because this quality isn’t there.

Nishiki rice is a staple in my kitchen
8 September 2020

Nishiki rice is a staple in in my kitchen. I think it is the best middle-of-the-road Japanese-American style white rice, slightly sticky, will work for sushi rolls in a pinch. Cooks fast, and does nicely stove-top or rice-maker. My husband figured out a way to cook it stove-top which makes it come out deliciously crispy along the edges.I've ordered it from Walmart several times, and it always arrives in perfect condition. Note that the bag is not waterproof, to allow the rice to breathe, so don't make the same mistake I did and try to "wash down" the packaging! Now I just pour it into large jars for storage (the 5 pound bag takes slightly less than two half-gallon mason jars).

rice and price is good if shipping was better!
24 October 2022

the rice is a different packaging, but the weight and type is correct. the biggest let down is the FedEx delivery. I had one bag busted open during shipping. it was a rainy day, FedEx did not put plastic bag over the boxes. cardboard was totally wet from the rain. the rice bag is plastic, but the damaged bag is wet. see my photos.

sticky in the best way possible!
13 December 2023

i’ve been obsessed with making sushi bakes, but I never have the correct rice to make it ~just~ right. I finally found this sushi rice at target, and it’s a game changer for sure! The stickiness is perfect and the flavor is great even before adding the rice vinegar mixture. I have found a new addition to my pantry!
