I bought this for her and did a "hard installation", where I removed the clamps and mounted the eyelets to the battery. I used zip ties to run the cord out through the grill where my mom could easily connect the cord to the Charger/Tender without the need of popping the hood and getting the cables mixed up for positive and negative (yes my parents still mix up positive and negative for batteries in a remote control for the TV).My only knock on this unit, is to remove the clamps from the wires, they use a copper screw ... MoreThis is a basic, yet handy Smart Battery Charger/Maintainer. The issue is that the copper is too soft, or they tighten the screw too tight, and it was difficult to get the clamps off. I ended rounding the slot of the screw slightly because it was tightly on there. I'll be able to get the cables on the clamps in the future, but never as tight. I get why they used copper screws (or at last plated) for better current connectivity, but something to be mindful of when you're taking off the screws. The unit is a basic no thrills design. It's small and light which is great for my elderly mother to handle. She now can leave her car in the garage and leave the tender/charger in without worrying about over charging the battery and letting her get on her day if she needs too.

With the extreme cold weather that we experienced this winter, our car battery would not turn over when it was -29 one morning. I bought this unit without doing initial research and we didn't initially use it right away as I wasn't sure if I should have bought a jump starter instead. I decided to use this a few days afterward when the temperature plunged again. This unit had the car battery fully charged in a few hours and then went to maintenance mode. No problems starting the car now. I use it every night. After researching battery chargers, I found that a trickle charger with built in smarts is easier on a battery as it charges it slowly vs a jumper starter that shocks the battery. Nice and small unit that you can easily travel with as well.

Just got this charger/maintainer during the holidays, tried it on two batteries. The first one (AGM) had a rough life, bought it brand new 6 years ago and got discharged a few times. Its a motorsport battery that I use in my summer car for space and weight saving (much smaller/lighter that stock one and relocated from the engine bay). It once got forgotten in the car while stored in a cold garage and got discharged very low. Couldn't save that one because of internal damage. The second one (AGM) had a low charge but unknown history. Charged great and the maintaining/desulfating function finished its cycle without issue.2A can be pretty slow if you have high capacity batteries. But if not in a hurry its light on the wallet and work pretty good.

I have a 12V AGM battery, three years old, which has taken a lot of abuse from me since I drive only 4 miles to work and take longer trips than that only once every two weeks. Lately, I was staying home because of coronavirus, and I only took my car out about once every three weeks. Needless to say, the battery died and I could not start my car. All lights were dead upon opening the car door. I got the Noco Genius2 to try it out. I was amazed at how small it was. I checked my battery with my voltmeter, and it was 1.9 V. I hooked up the Noco Genius2 and the first LED started blinking, indicating less than 25% charge. I hooked up the Noco Genius2 and the first LED started blinking, indicating less than 25% charge. I noticed this Noco was rated for 40Ah and my car battery is 80Ah, but I read in the reviews that it should still work, just take longer. Well, I left it on about 20 hours and the first LED never stopped blinking. I checked the battery with my voltmeter, but the voltage was jumping all over the place, so I thought maybe desulfation was taking place. Desulfation can take a long time, so I left it run overnight again and the first LED was still blinking the next day. I unhooked the Noco to take a steady battery voltage reading, and the voltage reading was 0. I was pretty disgusted at this point, thinking either the battery was unrecoverable, the recharger was defective, or maybe I had a load on the battery (like leaving the headlights on, but I knew it wasn't this). I decided to unhook the ground clamp from the battery terminal to try it again. The voltage reading jumped up to 4.2 V with the ground clamp disconnected, so I didn't have to use force mode on the Noco (this is a special mode that forces recharging if the battery voltage is too low). I ran it another 20 hours, and the first LED never stopped blinking, indicating less than a 25% charge. I was ready to give up this point, so I unhooked the Noco and took a battery voltage reading -- lo and behold, it read 12.3 V. Good things were happening, but I didn't understand why the second LED wasn't flashing (indicating between 25% and 50% charge). About 5 hours later, the second LED did flash, then a couple hours after that, the third LED flashed, and then in a couple more hours, the fourth and final green LED started flashing, indicating between a 75% and 100% charge. I left It hooked up over night, but the next day, the green LED didn't stop flashing. I ran it another day, and the next morning, the green LED was still flashing. According to the instruction manual, it turns sold when 100% charged. I disconnected the Noco at that point and took a voltage reading -- it was 13.3 V. Not super fantastic, but above 12.6 V, where I could start the car. While the ground clamp was disconnected from the battery terminal, I took an amp reading and it was drawing only 13 mA, well below the 50 mA that I would start worrying about. I hooked up the ground clamp and was able to start my car, and I think the battery is fine now. I was really impressed at the Noco's ability to revive a battery that apparently was in pretty sorry shape. I think the instruction manual should say to disconnect the battery if the voltage is too low -- it certainly seemed to help in recharging. Also, if you need a faster charge, don't get the Genius2 -- get a Genius5 or a Genius10. In my case, I didn't care if it took two weeks because I wasn't going anywhere. And if you're staying home from coronavirus, drive your car once in a while. Now that I have the Noco, though, I can just leave it hooked up.

I was constantly dealing with no-start situations when I went to drive it. I considered a traditional trickle charger but wanted something that I didn't have to hook up and unhook from the battery all the time. I also wanted to avoid having a trickle charger unit sitting on the garage floor or somewhere near the vehicle all the time. This onboard charger is the perfect solution. The unit works automatically, keeping the battery charged and going into """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""standby"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" mode automatically when the battery reaches full charge. A light on the outside of the unit lets you know the charging status. Installation was not a major obstacle, but does require that you have a spot under your hood near the battery to mount the unit securely. For my installation I had to remove the battery and drill a couple of holes in the side wall of the engine compartment, and route the power cord out through the front wheel well. A little bit of work, but a nice install solution that now allows me to plug the unit in with an extension cord without having to even pop the hood. I recommend that anyone considering this unit first examine under the hood of their vehicle to make sure there's a good place to mount the unit close enough to the battery to connect the wiring and to run the power cord. And of course you want to keep the wires away from moving parts -- fan belts, etc. If you have a vehicle that needs to get charged regularly, I highly recommend this unit.

I bough this product for my 1993 Honda Civic. Car has been sitting in my garage for 3 months and I didn’t disconnect the battery. Two weeks ago I tried starting it and battery was dead. I boosted it with GB 70 and it started fine. I let it run for 30 minutes and shut it off. A week later same problem. I bought the Genius 2 and hooked it up around 6 pm and one light came on meaning the battery was below 25%. Next morning i went to check around 8am. It was still in the same position. I figured either it wasn’t working properly or the battery was not good. I just left it thinking I would return it the next day. At 8pm I went to disconnect it and the battery was fully charged. But if your using it as a maintainer or a slow charge, then it’s perfect.

Had this for 5 weeks , it was bought for my partner's vehicle . She rarely goes anywhere as she's disabled but when she does go out it's short trips . So the car almost always needs a boost if it sits for a week or more and that's with a decent brand new napa battery .The Noco Genius2 has solved the problem . It does what it claims to do and does it well . Using it is easy . The display on it gives you easy to read feedback on it's progress . Comes with all that you need to hard wire it to your vehicle or you can use it like a bench charger with the clamps .Build quality is decent for what you pay .Highly recommended and good value .

NOCO Genius 2 - Ideal for top-up charge
25 April 2023

Neat little unit. Bought it to keep my 45 Amp-hour 12 volt lead acid car battery at full charge when only occasionally driven. Being of technical bent, I connected a voltmeter and watched the charger automatically cycle through its charging stages (as shown by the flashing LEDs changing colours). Starting at 12.3 volts, it brought the level up to 100 percent at 13.8 volts over 2.5 hours, then automatically dropped back to a maintenance charge at 13.2 volts. Can't fault it to date.

My sunroof on my Alfa Romeo Giulia TI was malfunctioning. The service tech told it was caused by the battery getting low. She told me that my car needed to be driven a lot more miles a week than I drive or it would have issues. She recommended a battery maintainer. I was looking at the Ctek battery maintainer for $120 and I read a review about the NOCO on a forum. The guy claimed that Ctek stole the NOCO technology and sells for twice the price. I don't know if that is true, but NOCO claims to have the same features for less money. I did have to buy additional cables that come with the Ctek standard, but it was still $50 less and so far I am happy with the NOCO. I wasn't comfortable with a charger that kept providing current when the battery didn't need it. I like that it is designed to keep the battery healthy as well as keeping it charged.

Updated on 9/26/2021: I recently bought AXTRA car battery charger maintainer, and it works well for 6 volt and 12 volts AGM batteries. Price is better than NOCO 2.
