Noctua NH-L9a-AM4 Low Profile AM4 CPU Cooler
The NH-L9a-AM4 is the latest, AM4-specific revision of Noctua's award-winning NH-L9a low-profile CPU cooler for AMD Ryzen-based HTPCs and Small Form Factor (SFF) systems. At a height of only 37mm, the NH-L9a is ideal for extremely slim cases and, due to its small footprint, it provides 100% RAM and PCIe compatibility as well as easy access to near-socket connectors even on tightly packed mini-ITX motherboards. The custom-designed SecuFirm2 mounting system for the AM4 socket makes installation child's play and, thanks to the highly optimized NF-A9x14 92mm fan that supports fully automatic speed control via PWM, the NH-L9a-AM4 runs remarkably quietly. Topped off with Noctua's renowned NT-H1 thermal compound, the NH-L9a-AM4 combines everything users have come to expect from Noctua's larger coolers into a super-compact, premium-quality package for ITX and HTPC builds with Ryzen CPUs or APUs.

Reduced my CPU temperature quite significantly when compared to the stock AMD Wraith Stealth Cooler. This Noctua cooler also runs with less noise. Overall great purchase.Although I would have bought a high-profile cooler if it wasn't for my tiny case.

At first I thought that I could possibly be paying way too much for a cpu cooler. I was doing a build for my father who wanted a very small a discrete build. I needed to chuck the stock cpu cooler and go for something far smaller, yet would still keep his cpu cool. This was the solution. The packaging was very well done. Everything is presented in a high class top notch product. It was like buying a mercedes benz compared to buying a honda (nothing wrong with either but you get my drift). I would definetly recommend to anyone looking for a more slimmer build that needs a smaller cooler.

I got this cooler to replace a stock AMD cooler where the stupid RGB fan died. It took about ten minutes to install. It leaves plenty of clearance in the mini-tower case I’m using. I put this cooler on an AMD Ryzen 7 1700X. Temps at idle were about 35c. I didn’t see the temps get over 55c. The fan is pretty quiet as well. Recommended.

Purchased for an Asrock A300w Mini build, with a Ryzen 3200g. The quality is obvious. The color is meh, but is only noticeable because it fills the entire side of the tiny case. Not exactly silent, but quiet. Probably gross overkill for cooling in this setup. Packaged in a foam-lined case like a fine watch: even the screws are set in foam cutouts. Even though Newegg said that it ships from Noctua, it arrived in a Newegg box with another order. The box had meandered around the country, was well crushed by the Postal Service (no damaged items), and took a full 17 days to arrive. Do not use Egg Saver, UPS to USPS, I beg you!
Overall a bad design with long screws which are very inconvenient to install and end up going through the back plate instead of tightening down onto it. Would not recommend. this need to be far better designed. Maybe this was the budget offering but don't buy this. Spend more and find a better more robust design. I've been building PC's for over a decade and this is the worst cooler install experience I've had so far. RMAing.
The Noctua cpu cooler is a quiet, compact CPU cooler that fits very nicely inside my ITX-mini case. It was easy to install, and it has run without incident as I've maxed out my new linux box with multithreaded applications in scientific computing. I have no trouble keeping all 16 virtual cores busy handling thousands of queued threads running in parallel on my midrange 8 CPU Ryzen chip, and while I can hear the fan spin up, it hasn't been a bother, and there has been no adverse overheating, even with sustained maximum use.The hardest part was unpacking the *naming* convention. Noctua NH-L9a is for the AM4. The Noctual NH-L9i is the intel mothernboard version. The difference is clear *after* you see them side by side, but not before. When I decided to swap my build into a new case, I figured I would finally upgrade past the stock cooler I got back in 2018. I didnt think it would give me too much of a performance boost at first, but It ended up helping keep my CPU a lot cooler than it used to. Honestly the colors will eventually grow on you, if thats something you care about!
Use it in a Asrock Deskmini X300 with Ryzen 5700G APU. Runs silent under full load. With a 5700G APU I`ve measured idle: 30dgr and full load: 85dgr.Easy to mount, there is even thermal compound paste included in the package. I order Thermal Grizzly (which has a better thermal conductivity) and did not use the Noctua paste.I would have preferred a black fan in stead of the off-white cooling fan. The off white cooler is visible in the deskmini housing. Maybe I`ll replace it in future for a 12cm fan.
Overall, this cpu cooler serves its purpose. My case has two motherboards in it and the stock Wraith cooler on the second board was obstructing my second and third PCI-e slots. This cooler does run several degrees hotter than the Wraith Cooler due to having a smaller heatsink. It was slightly difficult to install on the mini-ITX board due to the wider spread of the heatsink. But these problems were expected going into it.On the plus side, the fan is sufficiently silent even without the low noise adapter, which I would not suggest using as it makes the cooler run even hotter. My biggest complaint is that the fan is not a standard size fan, and as a result I'm stuck with the hideously ugly colors that don't match the rest of my case at all. I bought this in an attempt to make my Asus prebuilt quieter. It worked very well. No performance lost versus the stock cooler. No performance gained either though. If you are looking for a very quiet product look no further. Does its intended purpose.
