Battery life is excellent. I purchased Nokia because of my history with their phones. The radio quality (send/receive) is top-notch as always. Camera is nice too. On the downside, I keep hitting the Google assistant button when not intending to. Also, this implementation of Android is taking a little bit of time to get used to. The only irritating thing about this phone is that on group texts sent to me, when I reply it breaks the groups up so that each of the people on the group get an individual text. Then when one of the group members responds to me, they're not responding to the entire group. I've seen that this is a known issue, but as of the date of this review it has not been resolved.

In the beginning, I was looking forward to getting this phone despite my 3rd party carrier using AT&T as it's backbone. I had the Nokia 7.1 phone and it was fantastic. It's size and operational stability, look, etc was excellent. Because of changes in the 3G to 4G transition by AT&T, I could not use the voice side of the 7.1 because 3G is the voice system. Back onto the XR20, got it because it's 5G, features are stated out in the open like Corning Gorilla Victus glass, and shock and water resistant features, and Zeiss camera lenses. I was happy to get it. But over time and with normal use, and an upgrade to Android 12 this phone began to develop a breakdown of functionality. EVEN THOUGH ALL SETTINGS FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL APP WAS SET PROPERLY, things like notifications didn't work. Audible alerts don't work properly and even the screen orientation flippy feature don't work unless you turn the auto-rotate feature ON manually. I nearly came to the end of my rope over time with this phone, and had to do a factory reset. This meant re-install of all existing apps (hat-tip to Google for restoring them) and making sure the settings were proper. Well now I'm still getting loss of functions, this time it's my phone call drop-down. A smoke detector went off in error and got a call from my alarm company, I WAS FRUSTRATED BECAUSE THE DROP-DOWN TO ANSWER THE PHONE DIDN'T SHOW UP WHILE PHONE WAS RINGING, DROP DOWNS ARE SET TO SHOW ON TOP OF OTHER APPS IN USE. I had to call the alarm company up to cancel the dispatch. This is the straw that broke the camel's back which caused me to jump on the computer to do this review. I emphasize that all settings are set properly. Another thing, the text message arrival tone don't work, even though it's set to go on. HUM......mmmm. There's no discount and I thought this was well worth it, but I have second thoughts and considering replacing this phone with one with a more solid reputation of having better software/firmware. Please save the trouble and have an update sent out.

As one might expect of a phone of this caliber, it's heavy - balancing it on your pinky is almost guaranteed to get tiresome - but the textured back means it's viable to actually grip the phone and rest it on your palm instead. The customizable button is a nice touch, but the Google Assistant button is utterly useless for those not ingrained in the Alphabet universe. Battery can last four days on idle with minimal use but everyday settings for connectivity. Camera is high quality, but I'd recommend turning off HDR; also, the protrusion gives way to worry about damaging the enclosure. Thumbprint/power button is overly sensitive. Screen clarity and brightness is superb, and the large size benefits visibility. Audio quality is great - no issues regarding muted ... MoreAs one might expect of a phone of this caliber, it's heavy - balancing it on your pinky is almost guaranteed to get tiresome - but the textured back means it's viable to actually grip the phone and rest it on your palm instead. A number of problems were encountered trying to update - take out your SIM.
Overall, I appreciate this phone. I made the switch from iPhone and I'm glad I did. I got everything I wanted in a phone, with about half the price, and I got more. I love the extra-tough screen (it's been through some significant drops already and not a scratch!), and the waterproof safety as well. I wish it came in a *slightly* smaller size, as I cannot use it one-handed without compromising my grip while typing. I also wish there was more customization for the buttons, I feel like I'm locked into their limited functions. I turned off the Google assistant shortcut for the side button, but I have no option to use that button for something else. And the top button I read could be customized, but I can't find how, so it's stuck being an emergency call button. Maybe ... MoreOverall, I appreciate this phone. Great battery life and strong signal, thoughanual APN must be set up due to rarity of the device. Easy to see and read screen with very strong speakers for excellent media and notification volume. Very sturdy construction with great heft and solid feeling chassis. However, does not play well with certain Google apps despite being Android One and has poor ergonomics. Placement of headphone jack and USB C port is excellent and ideal for people who connect their devices to mounts (if you can find one to accommodate the size) in vehicles. Does tend to get hot during use, even with the screen off, probably due to size. Additionally, device is bulky and camera is lacking. Front camera is intrusive, and back camera does not handle lighting or stabilization well. The phone is pretty nice. It looks good and it matches my laptop (complete coincidence). It's snappy and of course is updated with all of the lastest security features. I have 2 negative things about the phone.1. It's too big. Alot of companies are all trying to follow suit with eachother and it seems like the Battle of the Biggest Phone! I'm 6'3 with long and wide hands. When it comes to doing certain 1 handed things with the phone then it's a challenge. My recommendation is to make the same exact phone in a 5 inch form instead of 6.whatever size it currently is. I would absolutely love the phone if it was 5 inches.2. The multifunctional power button/finger print sensor button doesn't work alot of times. Sometimes I can place my finger on the sensor and it ... MoreThe phone is pretty nice. Sometimes I can place my finger on the sensor and it doesn't even register that I'm touching it. Other times it will trigger as if i pressed the button twice which activates the camera. This is one of the reasons that I prefer the finger print sensor to be a separate button from the power button.
My first mobile phone was a Nokia. Since then, all still in my possession, favouring Nokia, I have owned and used many Nokia phones, including – a favourite – an 8600 Luna – the genuine leather laniard of which is now employed with my new XR20 – and a 9 Pure View. Between Nokia phones, of course, when such have not been available, owing to the vagaries of Nokia history, and those of my own history, I have owned both Apple and Android phones, favouring Android for its greater freedom of customisation.Elated to have seen the emergence of the XR20 – with Nokia's well-deserved change of fortune – without hesitation or delay, I rendered one, my own. Oh my! What a joy to behold, to hold, and to use! Its specifications require no compromise in expectation from my vantage point as a savvy tech user. I am a writer, multi-lingual and cultural. My phone has to play along as an active participant and collaborator throughout the course of my days. This is not a tech review; so I will refrain from specific comment regarding the capabilities of the XR20. Rather, as a lifelong vivid dreamer, a visionary, upon awakening each morning, often, the dreams still rolling in my semi-subconscious brain, their details, though clear, are interpreted within the contexts of the feelings which transport them, which give life and breath to them. So, too, is it with my new Nokia XR20. I am delighted with every use. Simply to pick up the phone, to hold it, to use it fluently and fluidly for all of the interactions of the day, is beyond pleasurable, it is soothing, somehow, as if hand-in-hand, fingers interwoven, with an old friend, a dear friend whom I have sorely missed. Certainly, you all know that feeling of tenderness, of affection.Today, a Nokia G50 will arrive, for a second line. Yes, as loyalty is the least of virtues, instead of loyal, I am devoted. I even have my eyes on the X200, coming mid-year.
I really wanted to love this phone, but unfortunately, have had too many issues with it. I've actually already had to switch to another new phone. Even though it's an unlocked device, very few phone carriers even offer service for it, because of it being so new. Even some of the providers listed as compatible, are not. After switching from my then current carrier (that was listed as compatible for this device) and finally getting the phone activated, my next issue is why I had to get another new phone. Whether I called someone or someone called me, I could hear the person on the other line, without any problems, but no one could hear me, at all (some people thought my phone was muted, because it was so silent.) After attempting to try every troubleshooting option given for two weeks, I finally switched to a new phone. The other issues I had with the phone, seem minor compared to calls not working properly, but another "deal breaker" for me was the horrible quality photos, the camera took! I take thousands and thousands of (great looking) pictures, but no matter what settings the camera was on, angle, lightning, background, etc was used, every single photo looked awful! The color (especially faces) was very off! Also the pics are almost blurry looking. I really expected a lot more out of this phone, but there was very few things I actually liked about it.On the plus side, the phone is "built" tough and looks like it has a lightweight case built on/around it.
This is possibly the worst phone I've had in over a decade. It's 2023 and here's what's up with this "smart" phone: - Can't handle GoPro videos- Does NOT have dual sim as advertised (you have to chose between using that slot for sim OR memory)- Screen sensitivity is all over the place, and the swipe backwards thing mahes it hard to navigate in apps without constantly losing your place or your work- The power button calls emergency every time you touch it (you cannot turn this off!) unless you program it to activate the camera - then it turns on the the camera or calls emergency whenever you just want to OPEN YOUR PHONE. I can the police line five times a day just tryna open the phone. Can't turn it off.- The camera is a joke. Pro 😂😂. No...not at all... ... MoreThis is possibly the worst phone I've had in over a decade. The only part that's even close to bring good is the night mode and the variable time lapse. All of this frustrates me, wastes my time, and mahes me hate the phone more and more every day. I'm crying over wasting my money on this pos "smartphone". Will never buy Nokia again.
