Oakley Fives Squared Sunglasses - Black

Having had Oakley sunglasses for 30 odd years, have a pair that old, they do last. The lenses and style are why you buy them! First time with the 5 square style, wanted a cheaper pair for work use. As has been stated, ‘a bit plastic’ but fit well for my narrow shape head. Could do with a slightly deeper lens, perhaps the Fuel Cell would be better going on their dimensions. Went for the basic grey lens, very good and clear but noticed that in strong sunlight when driving, not strong enough to cut out all the glare.

You only get one set of eyes so Protect Them and look good doing it. Well Worth It! I've been wearing Fives Squared for over 20 years. These are so comfortable and form fitting, I cannot replace them with another brand or type and be happy with it. I hope Oakley NEVER thinks to stop making them. I wish they made a polarized blue lens for them.

Excellent value

This is my second pair of prescription sunglasses through SportRX. My original pair was a SportRX house brand and it has served me well for several years. Now that SportRX can make lenses for Oakley I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to upgrade. So far I am extremely pleased with my new pair of prescription Oakley. Compares to my prescription Flak Jacket, which I paid almost $600 for, this is a steal. The Fives Squared construction is more stout and should last even longer than the Flak Jacket. I'm so glad SportRX is able to make lenses for Oakley now as it brings down the cost significantly. I would highly recommend SportRX regardless of what type of frames/lenses you decide to go with.

Great glasses and really nice lenses BUT…

I've had prescription Oakley sunnies for years', thought I'd try *** this time as they end up costing hundred's from my old optician. Although the lenses were okay I just couldn't live with a heavy, slippy frame. So thought I'd use SelectSpecs. I have to say the cost for Oakley prescription sunnies has saved me hundred's of pounds. During COVID the service has been rather slow but I wasn't in a rush and have patiently waited. The website is good as you can see/track progress of your order.My only issue is that I have chosen the wrong frames! My advice would be do some research on your frame sizes first. These Fives Squared do fit really well, the lenses are lovely to look through and they are very light and fit and stay on my nose really well. I just prefer a deeper shape/lense by at least another 10mm. Might be good to see frames on a mannequin head at least to see a bit better the style/shape of frames.I also had some old Oakley glasses re-glazed with my most recent prescription and am really happy with those too.Overall I would recommend SelectSpecs and the value for money is incredible compared to independent high street opticians.

I Love My Fives Squared, But...

I will start with that I am active duty Navy, and have trusted Oakly lenses for all 22 1/2 years of service to both protect my eyes from the sun as well as use them as my option for protective eyewear from physical damage as well. Being around the water every day it was important to choose a pair of optics that are reliable and polarized for reduced glare.In 1999, I chose to wear the "Fives" style of Oakley which I contined to purchase and wear until a few years ago when the "Fives" were updated to become the "Fives Squared". I love my Fives Squared, but when I chose the lenses during my most recent purchase on their official website, it was a little misleading. On the Oakley website I had the option to "filter by lens technology" which I chose the "HD Technology". This changed the 3 displayed sub-photos to 1 displayed photo. I then chose the "Add To Cart" button and proceeded to check out. I was delighted to find I had an excellent price for my new Oakleys with polarized lenses; However upon receipt of my new Fives Squared, I was greatly disappointed to find out that they were the "Standard" lenses.I went back to their website to figure out why this occurred, and after several attempts I figured out that choosing the "HD Polarized" option in "Sort by Lens Technology" did not actually change from the "Standard" lens option to the "HD Polarized" option. I actually had to click on the sub-photo for it to change (which the website does not prompt you to do to actually make the new lens selection). At this point, the price actually changed and the lens I actally wanted "HD Polarized" was selected.I admit that I feel a little "duped" by this transaction, will still continue to wear and trust Oakley. However, this one stung a little as I know that my kids "bought" these for me and it is not in my heart to tell them they are the wrong setup, and more so not in my budget anymore to purchase the HD Polarized lenses for them.All in all Oakley is a great brand that I have trusted for many years and will continue to, but feel slightly deflated on this experience. Do yourself a favor and buy and trust Oakley brand optics, but follow my instructions during your purchase or you may not receive exactly what you expected.My above statements are the only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 out of 5.

Money well spent

I had a pair of similar Oakley sunglasses from 2012 to 2018. What I liked most about them was how polyvalent they were. I could jog with them or wear them with a suit. I also traveled with them for several hikes. Oakley sunglasses are light; very confortable as well as stable and they give you a clear vision of your environment. The only drawback is that even with all precaution to avoid any damage, the plastic of the lenses eventually lost its clarity. Nevertheless, I was so satisfied with them that I purchase this model since it is comparable to my old pair.The only real difference is that this new pair is grey smoke instead of black but the difference is not that significant. Not recommended

The glasses are not tight to the head and slip off. I guess I will need to use some kind of Chums strap to make them a little tighter hitch is a major bummer. This is my third pair of Oakleys and I’m starting to question quality and construction. My straight jackets kept breaking at the bridge, even though I took great care of them and followed all instructions. Those were discontinued so I couldn’t warranty them any longer and then the Frog Skins I had bought to replace, broke as a result of the frames cracking at the lens. These fives squared glasses just feel like cheap glasses you would buy in a supermarket. Yikes. Optics appear to be good, but frames aren’t.

The Review Oakley Keeps Emailing Me to Do

Oakley keeps hounding me to review the sunglasses I just bought from them. So here it is. I am not at all happy with the purchase. The glasses feel like cheap plastic and fit crooked. I have a pair of Oakleys I bought more than 20 years ago and aside from the rubber on the ear pieces they are still holding up. These don't feel like they'll last 20 months. I aslo have a pair that were given to me as a gift that I suspects are fakes. They are nicer than the Fives Squared I just got direct from Oakley. Hopefully Oakley stop emailing me to write a review and spead the time working on improving quality. There's too much distortion, too.

The dogs dangly bits ...the puppys privates...the cats pyjamas...the bees knees....you know what I mean

Not the best made or most substancial oakleys that I own but in my opinion they have to be the most understated coolest looking pair .....at home on the beach the piste , apres ski , around town or driving they look more expensive than they actually are they ooze class and are subtly understated and not shouting in your face like most oakleys do. Lenses are fantastic with amazing clarity , they are light and comfortable and can be worn all day ..they won't break the bank and leave you trying to explain to your partner where all the money has gone from the bank ..why you are all on beans on toast until pay day all this while you are making your bed on the sofa where you have been banished to. I have several pairs of oakley sunnies but these are my favourite go to most of the time. If you want people to immediately know that they are oakleys then these are not the glasses for you because they are subtle not shouty ...but so so cool . Lenses are easy to change and can drastically alter the appearance of these and the polarised is fantastic especially on or near water. In my opinion theyare a fantastic buy and worth every penny ..but after all this is just my opinion . Buy a pair and see for yourself .

Overall I'm pretty disappointed with these glasses, especially given the total cost (with prescription lenses). Let's breakdown the pro's and con'sPro's- They look good- They support high prescription lenses- They block a lot of peripheral lightCon's- The frame material feels cheap/easily breakable- The frame design is flawed for prescription lensesThis last point needs explaining; the lenses themselves match my prescription perfectly, but the problem is these glasses (and thus the lenses) sit much closer to your eyes than normal glasses do (by close to a centimeter), so the lens design should take this into account and adjust the prescription accordingly.
