I received this lens a couple of weeks ago and have been running trial photoshoots - bids, grandkids, etc. as much as winter weather allows.The lens is amazingly sharp. and the f/2.8 all through the zoom makes it possibly to get great shots even in poor lighting. It also has the benefit, if you are shooting at full f/2.8 aperture, of blurring out the background nicely, which is a huge benefit for child portraits and bird photos, making the subject leap out of the frame.All photos attached shot in my backyard at 150 mm zoom, through a closed window.

Superb optics, easy to carry, and clever lens hood to boot. I've used many 70-200 equivalent lenses over the years, from Canon to Sony to Nikon to Fuji. This might be my favorite. A couple of reasons:-Extra reach: the long end is 300mm equivalent-lighter weight=easier to carry for long periods-the built in collapsible hood is super clever and functional. Saves the annoying need to remove, flip around and re attach the hood every time you pack it up.

I use this with a 1.4 converter, giving me a 56-210 zoom, equivalent to 35mm 112-420. I have gotten excellent bird shots with it on my OM 1, but even with the IBIS in my aging and trembling hands it requires stabilization. Leaning the camera against a tree or resting an elbow on a post is enough, so that I don't always carry a tripod. My home investigations, not as good as laboratory studies, indicate that it is sharp through out the range from its widest wide angle to its longest telephoto, and sharp from edge to edge, with a flat field so that a flat object will be in focus all the way across the picture. OM systems justifiably calls this a Pro lens.

The lens hood fully retracts while remaining on the lens. This makes storage much easier. It does hide the manual focus ring/clutch but I just pull it out to its working mode. The internal zoom means the lens stays the same length throughout the zoom process. This is great for close work.While the 150mm is great for reasonably long work, the lens came with a M.Zuiko MC-20 Teleconverter so now my lens gets pushed to 300mm for even longer work!! With that focal length and the speed of the lens, following and shooting birds in flight is a pleasure.
Razor sharp. Excellent range and build quality. Function button on the lens. Only thing missing is in-lens stabilization, but with the right camera body this is not an issue. It is a dream lens with the new OM-1 camera. I really like the manual focus ring, slide it back for instant manual focus, and slide forward to return AF. Lens hood is one of the best in the industry. More manufacturers should implement this design. Size and weight allow for comfortable walk-around option or use the tripod collar. Price is excellent for an F2.8 80-300mm equivalent to 35mm. Can't recommend this lens enough.
I bought the 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO Lens for an upcoming seascape photography trip. I've used it several times to get to know it before the trip. The images have been crisp and clear and just what I would expect from a PRO lens. The lens is easy to use. I love the fact that it doesn't extend out any further from the camera when zoomed out. So far I am very happy with the lens.This was the first time ordering from B&H. The website was really easy to use. I got the lens when they said I would--which really please me! The lens was packed so well it could have almost been run over and it wouldn't have been damaged. Will definitely use B&H again.

I rented this lens to use at a horse show, in situations where I used a Nikon 80-200/2.8 lens back in my full frame DSLR days. But I found the lens was surprisingly soft at f/2.8 when shooting a static subject, both indoors in my basement when it arrived (~45 feet, from a tripod) and outdoors at the show (up to 300 feet, from a monopod.)When following a horse around the jumps using continuous autofocus, images from this lens were tack sharp with nice shallow depth of focus, as I would have expected. But when the subject was NOT moving, images from my Lumix 45-150/3.5-5.6 kit lens were sharper.
