Don't know why I waited so long. For the longest time I read varying reports. Since several of the M.Zuiko telephoto line up starts at 12mm I wasn't in a hurry. I have the other primes just not the 12 mm. I am using it with the EM1Mk3 and my old EM5 Mk2 and is a perfect lowlight walk around lens combination. Great landscape and street lens. IQ is very sharp. There was a brief sale and picked it up at a great price. Highly recommended.

I do a lot of street/candid photography and bought this lens to give me a wide-angle option alongside the Panasonic 20mm f1.7 and Olympus 45mm f1.8. I use a Panasonic and Olympus camera bodies (GF1, G2 and E-PL3.)With one lens on the camera I can stow either of the other two in coat or trouser pockets and have a portable 3-lens kit without really needing a camera bag.The 12mm is small, light and compact - a little larger and heaver than the 20mm or 45mm to be sure, but still tiny. Since the DoF scale is there for depth focussing I presume you're meant to rely on that.I've read reports that the 12mm focusses in steps in 'Snap Focus" mode; I looked for this and can't say I noticed it on either Olympus or Panasonic bodies; if so, the steps are small, and I've not had issues with sharpness as a result.Having bought the lens in the depths of winter, I've not had many opportunities to play with the 'Snap Focus' depth focussing - though my few experiments so far show good results and I can see this being very useful once the light improves. Right now a combination of short days and work pressure mean I'm mostly shooting after dark, when the 12mm's fast aperture and excellent low-light performance are scoring.Any gripes? It's expensive, but given the build quality, snap focus mechanism and specialist nature I suppose it's fair enough. Not including a hood as standard at this price point does seem a bit penny-pinching. The DoF scale on the Snap Focus mechanism seems a little narrow and pinched; I don't see why it couldn't have extended wider around the barrel to give room for a useful f8 marking. It would have been nice to have the option of a standard model in less-obtrusive black.If you're thinking about this lens, the question to ask yourself is, do you need the combination of compact size, wide angle, 'Snap Focus' and fast aperture? The Panasonic 14mm gives you a much cheaper, smaller package, though with a stop slower aperture, narrower field of view and poorer optical performance. If you don't need the fast aperture, the Olympus 9-8mm zoom is still cheaper, not much bigger (retracted) and much more flexible in terms of angles of view. If you're looking for a single walk-around prime, the new Olympus 17mm offers the same feature-set in a more standard focal length.This lens isn't for everybody, but if you do need (or just want) the specialist combination of features the 12mm offers, you won't be disappointed. It's a gem.

This is an excellent wide lens, really compact and optically great. Nice for interiors, architecture and street photography. Nice for capturing atmosphere in interiors because of the f/2 aperture.

I have used this lens for interior real estate photography as well as for underwater photography. It performs spectacularly in both environments. This rounds out my Olympus primes of 17 mm, 25mm and 45 mm. This lens is sharp from corner to corner and I do not notice any vignetting around the edges even when being shot wide open. This is a lens that you can use hyper focal techniques and it doesn't miss. The build quality is excellent and very solid. I especially like the focus slide ring on this as well as on the 17 mm. It is an excellent lens to round out the series of Olympus primes.
This lens is extremely sharp and fast. I have not had it for long, but the build feels very solid. I often use the Canon 24mm TS II & 17-40mm on a 5D Mark III, and the results are very comparable with this lens on an OMD EM1. Switching this lens to manual focus mode is especially nice, because you shift the focus barrel down revealing focus distances which work well with the depth of field scale on the top of the barrel. When you switch it to manual the focus ring also stops at infinity and the minimum focus distances, rather than twisting endlessly. The lens is much smaller than anything else I've used, but it's refreshing how compact it makes the camera and still retains top quality optics.
Purchased this lens for my travel kit and it has been the best purchase I've ever made. It's going to be on my camera all the time now. Why? 1. Top notch quality glass & optics 2. Excellent Aperture - that's why you're looking at a Prime Lens anyway right? And inside of the museum/palace where they don't allow a flash - it's perfect because it works in such low light. 3. Field of View - PERFECT for both street photography, landscape, and those "tourist" shots that don't fit in a traditional lens. 4. Light weight I have had very good luck doing close focus wide angle with this lens as well, another bonus. I bought a 17mm prime lens as well, as reviews pointed to that lens as better for "street" work - but this one actually makes a better image I feel.

The angle is wide enough where you can be at an arm's length away to take a picture of you and it will capture your face and shoulders and it being a 24mm equivalent makes it perfect for landscapes. As far as image quality goes, this does hold well. I've used it in forests and noticed little to no chromatic aberration. Vignetting is well-controlled at f/2. Some sharpness does soften but only if you're looking for it. I think its biggest weakness is autofocus. It's not fast and sometimes not entirely accurate. This is more apparent on videos, especially while recording. This means a bit more additional time for setting up if you plan on recording something on the fly, because it will keep missing its mark once you press ... This is what prevented me from giving 5-stars.Forget the $ plus lens hood. I bought a collapsible rubber hood for $ and it protects the lens in the collapsed position without vignetting.

The 14mm lens from Panasonic can't touch this one so while you may fool yourself into thinking your getting ROUGHLY the same quality if you go that route, based on my experience you are wrong.
