The Olympus OM-D E-M1x represents the high point of micro 4/3 camera development. It simply has features (and their implementation) that can be found in no other platform. While large for a micro 4/3 camera, it is much smaller than a similar full frame camera equivalent. The legendary weather sealing of the Olympus make it useful in a whole range of conditions, while the extensive (both native and adapted) lens selection make it perfect for a photo enthusiast.

This is my second E-M1X body, I had one and sold it, but I missed the Olympus system and decided to buy another body and 40-150 2.8 Pro lens combo and I dont regret it one bit. The Olympus micro 4/3 system is superb and delivers excellent images and the E-M1X body is tops in its class. Best money I spent and glad I chose the Olympus system as my new mirrorless digital camera.

This is the finest camera I've owned, and after 30 years of professional work and even longer for personal work, I have owned a few cameras. I purchased this camera about two months ago, and my primary motivation in buying this model was to improve my bird and wildlife 'keeper' rate -- it was a great decision. This camera has revolutionized my bird-in-flight capture rate and I'm still getting adjusted to the camera. I recently spent a few days at the Texas Coast photographing birds and wildlife, and came back with close to 1,000 images. I got so many sharp BIF shots that it has been a real chore just to cull them down to a manageable number of keepers.A really big plus is that because of the outstanding IBIS of the E-M1X, I ended up leaving my carbon fiber tripod ... Button/dial placement is excellent, and it feels exactly the same whether you are holding the camera in landscape orientation or in portrait orientation.Battery life is amazingly good, and the camera is extremely customizable. People often complain about the Olympus menu as being confusing, but I have found that once you have your camera set up the way you like it (and that includes 4 available Custom Modes), you rarely have to dive into the menus. If you do, this camera offers 4 'My Menu' spaces where you can easily store items from the main menu for easy, quick access.Did I mention I love this camera? I highly recommend it.

I owned an EM1 mk II for two years prior to purchasing this camera. On the surface it didn't make a great deal of sense to replace it with the E-M1X as it only seems like a minor improvement. However this camera is more than the sum of its parts and the overall experience of the camera is significantly more enjoyable than the EM1 mk II. SIZE AND ERGONOMICS - This is the primary criticism of this camera (along with the price). I have large hands and used the vertical grip on my EM1.2. The E-M1X is not significantly larger. It is, however, far more comfortable to hold; there is no seam or retaining wheel under the fingers. It is also for more solid than the EM1.2 with a bolt on grip as there is absolutely zero play or wiggle. The EM1.2 had a very solid vertical grip, ... It is, however, far more comfortable to hold; there is no seam or retaining wheel under the fingers. It is also for more solid than the EM1.2 with a bolt on grip as there is absolutely zero play or wiggle. The EM1.2 had a very solid vertical grip, but the E-M1X just feels better. Compared with other cameras with a grip that I've used (Nikon D4/D5/D750 with grip) the E-M1X is comparatively compact and very lightweight. If you prefer a camera with a vertical grip as I do you'll soon find it is actually compact, yet large enough to be extremely comfortable to hold. This is, without a doubt, the most comfortable camera I have ever held. The button placement is generally very good, particularly the location of the ISO button near the shutter release. (I do believe Panasonic still has the edge when it comes to button placement, but that is personal taste.) There is a somewhat useless card button prominently located under the screen and the placement of the play button is not ideal when the camera is held in the normal horizontal orientation. Drive and AF selection on the top plate are easily accessible but out of the way enough to avoid accidental change. BUILD - This is a robust camera. Olympus builds very solid, durable cameras but this camera easily tops all of their other offerings in terms of durability and ruggedness. SPEED AND AUTOFOCUS - Most reviews I've ready about this camera imply the autofocus is only marginally improved over the EM1.2. My experience is that the focus speed is significantly improved. Focus is acquired in perhaps 65%-70% of the time it takes to lock on with the EM1.2. This may not sound like much, but it is noticeable in the field, particularly when trying to catch fleeting moments. Admittedly I do not use continuous tracking focus very often so I cannot comment on that, I use single AF. Continuous focus is not a strength of the system. SYSTEM IN GENERAL - I use a number of systems both professionally and for personal use; Nikon, Fuji, Panasonic, and Olympus. I find the implementation of Olympus wi-fi to be the most streamlined and easiest to use of the group. The lenses are small for their field of view. The stabilization is is nothing short of amazing almost eliminating the need to use a tripod entirely. Creating shallow depth of field for subject separation is not the strength of this system compared with larger sensors, but with fast primes I am able to offer enough separation. High ISO is also not the strength of the system but I find images to be clean enough for my uses up to ISO 3200 and ISO 6400 usable. CONCLUSION - It is difficult to describe in words the improvement over the E-M1.2. In the hand the camera simply feels more robust, more comfortable, and more responsive in a noticeable way. When I use the E-M1X I simply enjoy the experience far more than I ever did with the E-M1.2.
I have taken some great photos with this camera for Birds in Flight, specifically. However, with the new firmware for BIF be advised that you will need more than two batteries that the camera holds when you shoot in either of the auto tracking modes. It does use up Battery Power. I also use Topaz AI Denoise to handle the noise that a small sensor generates at higher ISO. I have included my best shot of 2020 using this camera.
The company: Adorama pre-sales support was outstanding. Cannot beat the total price and excellent service. The product: I have been shooting Olympus digital for 20 years. Their bodies and lenses are a great fit for my photography needs. I am very impressed with the new features on the E-M1X as well as the environmental sealing. This is not simply a larger E-M1 MkII. The E-M1X is a targeted tool - and it leverages foundational elements from its very capable sibling. Horses for courses - both great pieces of technology.
Nice camera. Purchased for the bird AI detect. Been testing and seems solid. The size reminds me of the older digital Canons I shot with. Will be a good addition to the bag.
I love this camera! Right size and feel for me - used for wildlife photography. Lens system compact enough for us older folks trudging through the wilds. I really like the integral GPS and extra battery power for all day treks. Missing is the starry sky focus, non-bird mammal AI and tracking is spotty - 4 stars because of this.I have an OM-1 on order as an additional body for non-bird wildlife AI and hopefully better tracking. No GPS on board though. Will probably use my 100-400 on the OM-1 if it ever arrives and wider lenses on MX1. A great fun camera. The 4/3 system is just right for me. Don't miss my FF canon.
After 20 years with Canon cameras and 10 with Nikon before that, I can honestly say this was a tough decision. However, after only a few days, I was hooked. The menu is so customizable, it feels like I built the camera for me. I will say the color is note quite the same as Canon, but I am still learning to tweak things on the camera.
I used this camera with standard lens 14-150 I think is enough for me I can do everything especially for sports photographer and wildlife is better than other brandwith this price
