Fit - The shoe has a really nice fit. I have a narrow heel and a wider forefoot. Even with the blue superfeet in the shoe, I had enough heel cup not to have any lift/slip. The lace

being roomy, but not too much. The shoe is really breathable as well.Design - I like the orange, but the white soles stood no defense to getting dirty very quickly. The shoe is

The one thing about the design is the angular supports in the sole have me wondering if it will last as long as other running shoes.Performance - Overall very good. Naturally a pavement/street shoe first, but also performed exceptionally well on hardback dirt/gravel. Off pavement, I noticed the tread was solid, and the shoe was very stable due to the lateral geometry of the sole (no wobble transferred to the ankle etc). The only negative I experienced was when running on steep declines, the shoe seemed to have a very hard strike when landing (compared to the other shoes I run in.) Hard enough that it was uncomfortable and I found myself making modifications to my running/form when in such a situation. What I Love- Laces, fit, weight.Concerns- longevity/miles before replacing. Steep declines.Overall - great shoe for pavement first running/fitness.... Show more

These shoes do more than that. Style-wise, they are a bit loud for my normal taste, but I actually didn't hate that aspect after wearing them. Comfort-wise, they are really impressive. It is not often that you start wearing shoes and find that you are smiling because the simple act of walking around just feels, different. The rounded sole rolls forward and almost springs you into your next step, while the unbelievably soft cushion just feels nice. Really nice. The one gripe I have is that the front of the shoe around the widest part of my foot feels a bit tight. I don't normally wear wide shoes, but I think I would need to in this brand or to go up another half or whole size as I just had a bit too much pressure. Admittedly, the pinching feeling fades while I am wearing them, so it is not an absolute deal-breaker, just a word of warning if buying online (and chances are that you are since you are reading reviews online) that you might want to go up a bit in size.I've now worn these for walks around the neighborhood, a bit of running, and some light hiking on a paved trail and I have found them really wonderful for all of the above.Overall, I really enjoy wearing these shoes and would recommend them if you are looking for really supportive and cushiony shoes.... Great RUNNING SHOE!
4 August 2024
I am on my second pair of these Cloud surfers for use as RUNNING SHOES. I cannot believe how many reviewers use these for activities other than running then complain about them. I've worn my first pair for about a year now, I mostly trail run and wanted a shoe that had good cushion for road running. I also tried several different Sauconys and Hokas, nothing compared to the feel of these shoes for me. I even did back-to-back mile loops with these and Saucony guide 17 and ultra-cushion Topos, and it wasn't even close. These do make my runs feel like I'm floating. I've run a half marathon in these and I'm not sure I would run much longer than that I'm these Cloud surfers, but for anything between a mile and 13 miles these are perfect for me. I'm 61, 5"10' 165lbs, run typically 8-8:30 min mile pace but tempo work in the 6-7 min/mile.range and these feel plenty fast for those workouts. If you weigh over 200 lbs I could see perhaps these starting to feel too squishy, but for me the cushion/suspension on these is sublime, and in fact feels softer with lots of bounce than any of the ultra-cushion shoes I've tried recently, and these don't feel "over-cushioned" I will say I've tried these at CrossFit and for weight-bearing workouts they do have too much cushion and become a bit unstable (but these are running shoes not crossfit shoes! ON has other models that work better for weights and CrossFit type activities). There is a V2 they just came out with but I have not tried those yet. Also the only time either pair have ever "squeaked " was when they got wet. Once they dried it stopped. My guess is when water gets inside those cushion holes in the soles it allows a squeak when they compress and the oval opening flattens and bottoms out.... Show more

How to Get Rid of On Running Shoe Squeak
15 May 2024
I've had several pairs of On Running shoes that started developing an annoying squeak after several months. I've found a trick to eliminating the squeak and wanted to share it with you all! The squeak seems to be coming from the 'holes' or 'spaces' in th sole, especially in the heal and mid-foot areas. The rubber/foam in those spaces will start to rub against itself with each step, which causes the squeak. The fix I found is to use skinny strips sand paper (I used 100grit, but 80 should also work):1. Cut a skinny strip of sand paper that's 2x the width F the shoe.2. fold sandpaper in half, lengthwise.3. stick the sandpaper in each hole, from heal mid-foot so it sticks through to the other side. (Some of the holes may ot go all the way through the width of the ... MoreI've had several pairs of On Running shoes that started developing an annoying squeak after several months. I did it about 10 times for each hole. This works by roughing up the inside of each hole so that when it rubs together, not smooth enough to squeak. I've done this with my Cloud5 and CloudVista. It's been several weeks with no squeak. Hopefully it helps your squeaks... Show more

Not for me

This is a plush shoe, so I can understand that some (most from what I see) people like it. It just does not fit my type of running.Fit: I usually wear 9.5 in other brands but 9 with ON shoes. This one is tight in a 9, so I would say it is true to size but smallish for ON.I used it for two runs before deciding it is not for me. The first one was a rather fast (4:45 min/km) 12 km run on a multi-surface course. I rapidly noticed that the midsole compresses a lot, especially when the foot does not land straight: i.e. when the weight is not absorbed by the full midsole but by a section on the side. This makes attacking curves difficult. Adherence was good on asphalt but the shoe became dangerously slippery on rock dust. I also noticed some calf pain after that: the softness of the midsole makes calf muscles work. Second run (two days later) was a slowish (5:30 min/km) 12 km run on asphalt. The course has a long inclined curve. Negotiating this with the soft midsole became a balance exercise. At the end of this run, my calves hurt so much that walking was difficult.I would say this shoe is for people who are looking for comfi short runs on asphalt. I would not recommend it for people looking to push themselves: tough training or competition.... Show more

So comfortable, so plush, so... noisy?

Premium-feeling shoe with excellent construction, a very comfortable heel counter, solid lockdown with the lacing system. On foot, the shoes are insanely comfortable - going from Hoka Carbon X and Rincons, these are yet plusher and bottomless feeling when walking. Running, they don't feel too dead with the amount of cushion (and the lack of a carbon plate). For what they are designed for, I have zero issues.However... the shoe is so noisy! The little hollow baffles in the midsole rub together and squeak - I've tried everything from baby powder to teflon powder, but as soon as the powder works its way out within a few minutes, the shoe goes back to squeaking. So every step provides a little noisy ensemble. Great at the gym, if you have headphones in, but they are distracting enough that walking through hallways in office or residential building, I get a little self-conscious from all of the squeaking and suction-cupping and tip-toe around like a weirdo. If these were dead-silent, they would be 5 stars.... Super comfortable, but squeaky :(
29 December 2023
By far the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn and being a high school and D1 track athlete, I've worn a lot of shoes. On definitely nailed it on getting these lightweight and comfortable. However, after a week of owning them they started squeaking. Unfortunately the squeaking started 2 days into a 3 week trip in Asia. Therefore, I Googled the concern and found that if you use a nail file to file the openings of the back 4 holes in the sole, it will solve the problem. I did this and it helps, but it is not a 100% fix as sometimes the filing works for a couple hours or couple days or longer. Perhaps On should add a nail file to the shoe box to address this problem. Hopefully On fixes it as I was unable to return the product as they were worn. The Best

I’ve had these for a couple weeks now and I’d say they are the best running shoe I have ever owned. The cushioning provides a comfortable, supple run. They require absolutely no supplemental arch support, as using even low arch third-party insoles will result in an arch that is more pronounced than even the highest arched 3rd-party insoles. There is absolutely no heel slippage with these shoes, which is saying a lot as every single shoe I have ever owned had pronounced slippage (as far as I know, I do not possess unusual, mutant heels either). The only possible “downside” to these shoes is that it can be frustratingly difficult to tie them if used as-is out of the box: there is a large “tag” (for lack of a better term) that runs down the length of the tongue. I imagine its purpose is to help ensure a tight fit however it interferes with that purpose by being directly in the way of the very part of laces you would pull on to tighten them. I found that re-lacing the shoes, so that the criss-cross alternates between being above and below the tag eliminated this frustration.... Show more
