The On Cloudultra delivers a plush ride on even the roughest of trails. On engineered the Cloudultra trail shoe with double the Cloudtec for more cushion with each step. Designers packed the midsole with Onrsquos feather-light Helion superfoam to absorb impact from uneven trail surfaces. Taking inspiration from Onrsquos responsive Cloudventure, the midsole of the Cloudultra features a snappy Speedboard to power strong takeoffs as you cruise over the trails. The Cloudultra features an updated outsole of closed Cloud elements to keeps stones and debris out. The Missiongrip outsole uses three distinct traction patterns to provide multi-directional grip on slippery terrain. An updated, two-layer mesh upper is durable, yet extremely breathable thanks to perforations throughout. The upper is reinforced with ultra-light TPU and uses a sock-fit construction to hug your foot and provide the support you need as you run. An all-new Flip Release tab on the laces allows you to adjust the fit and relieve pressure as your feet swell while you run over long distances. Whether you wear it for long trail runs or an ultramarathon, the On Cloudultra is built to provide comfort for the long haul.

comfortable but not rugged

These shoes are super comfortable and supportive. The level of cushion is noticeably more than On Cloud shoes. Despite being advertised as a trail shoe I find them best for
just walking. They also have an attractive silhouette. They don’t feel very rugged or protective for any heavy duty hiking or climbing and they are not waterproof, but they will
certainly keep your feet comfortable and protected for light trail walking. Sizing, I typically wear a 13 and that size fit best for me, even though most other On brand shoes I

Pros: The sock design of these shoes results in an incredibly comfortable fit all around the foot. Being able to expand the toe box with the flip clip on the laces is also great as
the foot expands on hot days. Outer sidewall material protects the shoe incredibly well from rock scrapes and bumps; the toe box protection is great as well. All around
excellent shoes for trail running and for day hiking. However, I returned these shoes after several excursions and runs; the cons simply outclassed the pros of an otherwise

I'm not a runner but I hike quite a bit. Currently, the On Cloudultra is my favorite hiking shoe. I ordered 1/2 size up and the fit is perfect. The sock-like design made the shoe
difficult to put on at first but after a bit of wear and stretch, it's no longer an issue. The cushion is firm and responsive and provides great support for rough trails. The traction
is solid in dirt and rocks but I have not used them in really muddy conditions. The lugs are not super aggressive so mud might be an issue. Unlike other On shoes I've tried, the
shoe has a shallow groove in the sole that does not pick up stones or sticks. I have roughly 150 miles on these and they show no significant wear and tear. The o... Show more

Hiking/running on Sierra moon dust and granite was not confidence inspiring with the outsole. Not nearly enough grip from the rubber, and it's softer than other trail runners, so long-term durability was also a concern. The tongue loop needs to be placed on the heel due to the sock design of this shoe for easier entry and exit. The little air cushions on the sole are a pebble magnet and there was time spent on trail having to stop and dig those out. And while these shoes are solidly built (except for the sole and outsole) and comfortable, the Hoka Speed Goat is 40$ less. The Hoka Speed Goat has a more stiff vamp for better stability and grip, extra material on the heel for getting on and off, just as much comfort and cushion, and Vibram rubber. In the end I returned the Cloudultra for the Speed Goat because there were just enough problems with the Cloudultra features and materials where it mattered to me. If On redesigns this shoe to better meet the demands of trail running an hiking I would certainly take another look as I love all other On shoes I've owned.... Show more

Excellent Overall - Questionable Durability
28 October 2021
Took this to Yellowstone and Teton in October. Did about 25 miles of hikes in everything from dry dusty/rocky/gravely to wet muddy/snowy/icy trails. Fantastic grip in the drier conditions. It can handle a little mud, but looses grip really fast the deeper the mud gets. Mudguards are sufficiently high. Incredibly breathable. The elastic band to tuck your laces in is just brilliant. Sock-like fit is the perfect amount of tight and I had no issue of my feet sliding around. Firm sole yet comfortable. Running on them is a pleasure. I use the lace flip thingy the opposite way. I like my toebox extra narrow so I tie my laces as tight as I can and flip the tool for some extra tightness.Only gripe is that on the very first day, I stepped on something that punctured a hole ... MoreTook this to Yellowstone and Teton in October. It protected my foot well. I never felt it (which is amazing becuase something sharp must have caused the damage). But still bummed that the foam is so delicate for a shoe made for trail running.... First pair of On shoes not last pair. quality!
18 November 2022
Amazing sneakers! I had to say something because of negative reviews. These are quality shoes very comfortable and worth the price. Unlike Nike and some other brands they are holding the test of time and not falling apart in the gym etc. I always wore New Balance but may not wear them anymore because I like these so much. Have to try and find out for your self. Trust me get a pair. Try something new will not disappoint.... Show more

Great shoe!
17 August 2021
Excellent shoe. I had the Cloudventure a few years ago and didn’t like it at all. It was well made, but poorly designed—stiff, uncomfortable, and hurt my knees. I was skeptical purchasing the Cloudultra, but have found them to be an excellent shoe. Good performance on the dry, rocky desert trails I run on. Very comfortable and just the right amount of cushioning. I wouldn’t say they’re soft at all. The shoe quality is excellent and have ran several hundred miles on them and they’re holding up well. Would like to see a slightly more aggressive tread. One thing I really like is how breathable they are. I run in hot temps and my feet don’t get hot.... Show more

One of the best shoes I've ever had!!
7 January 2023
Started running and hiking more miles recently and needed a more supportive trail shoe. Had been having foot and hip pain from running in shoes with very little cushioning and support. These shoes have been perfect! No more pain. They fit great, are very supportive and look amazing. I have flat feet and tend to hit the ground hard and these shoes have performed ideal!! I checked out other running shoe brands but for the money I felt they just looked horrible. Like cartoon shoes that I wouldn't want to wear for anything other than running. The On Cloudultras perform perfect and I've had several compliments on them when I wear them out and about. Two shoes in one!!... Show more

So close but lack durability
28 March 2023
Just wrapped up my second trail run in these shoes. I really want to like them. They are comfortable and the upper is awesome but the exposed midsole is with the wide gaps is concerning. While trail running a rock managed to puncture a hole in the midsole. This really brings to question the long term durability of these shoes. For $180 trail shoes it’s a downright disappointment.... Too much volume
8 January 2023
I wanted to like these expensive trail runners because I used my refund to make them a reasonable price, but no luck. They look great and I think they would be protective enough for my extremely rugged trails, but they just didn’t fit my extremely low-volume middle width feet. I added a second insole (Superfeet RunMax) to take some of the extra room, but then my toes were pushed up into the stiff fabric on top of the toes. They also have a tall collar, but I think my ankles would have adjusted to them quickly, but who knows as I never even ran in them. I was really looking forward to muddying these beauties up, back to my trusty Brooks Cascadia…... Show more

Too narrow for me
25 May 2022
These shoes do not fit like the common models of On road running shoes, such as the Cloudflow. The Cloudultra have a substantial arch support that is very uncomfortable for those of us with flatter feet. The shoes are too narrow overall. They also have an upturned toe that I found uncomfortable. I returned these and am currently using a pair of On Cloudflyers, not currently sold by REI. Also, I do not recommend the Cloudventures either, because they have all the same problems as the Cloudultras. On's trail running shoes are in no way comparable to their road running shoes. I would recommend Altra trail running shoes over these.... Show more
