Awesome oven! I spent sometime watching videos on using the oven + dough + launching pizzas before using the first time so I felt super confident on my first use. First impression while unboxing is you can tell Ooni is a quality product as everything was packed well (also the box size is great for a toddler to play with haha).Set up and turning on the oven was very easy to follow and execute. Since setting up, our family has had a blast with pizza nights and entertaining friends. My husband could not believe how fast it cooked amazing pizzas! We had friends over (who has just purchased a cheaper pizza oven from a different brand) and they couldn't stop commenting on how much easier/nicer the Ooni was compared to theirs. I marinated some mushrooms and roasted those in the cast iron as an appetizer. Then we cooked ~6 pizzas. Finishing w/ a cookie made in the cast iron as well. It was fun to make a full meal in the oven + interacting with our guests on making pizzas. Since this dinner, those same friends has us over. I got to test their pizza oven and it definitely wasn't as awesome as my Koda 16. Much smaller viewing area + harder time controlling the heat led to more burned crusts, even with a "built in turning wheel".I picked this oven because of the larger viewing window, the L burner and ease of propane use.One more thing to add, if you have kids this is great to get them involved in the kitchen. I also got the "Jo and the Dough" book by Ooni for my 4 yr old. He loved the book, using the recipe at the end of the book and getting involved in the dough/pizza making process.Overall, it's been a great purchase and excited for our all our family pizza nights to come.

I became interested in a gas powered pizza oven after seeing my friend's home made brick pizza oven - like one you would find in a restaurant, only outside in the back yard. I live in a condo community where nothing with smoke is permitted, so a wood fired pizza oven would never work.We have two other natural gas products (Weber Summit and a paella grill) and both have the larger diameter hose. I was surprised to discover that the Ooni has a smaller diamater hose. I had to wait for a plumber to come and modify my hookups so that I can potentially run all three devices at the same time. What impresses me most with the Koda 16 is the insulation of the oven. I LOVE IT! It's fun to cook in and makes really tasty pizzas. There's a bit of a learning curve, but even the less-than-perfect pizzas are tasty and fun to eat. It's especially nice to be able to make homemade pizza without heating up our indoor oven.A couple of tips about accessories:--The big Ooni peel is great for launching and retrieval, but doesn't work well for turning. You need a turning peel or a long-handled BBQ spatula for that (and unless you like raw pizza, you need to turn it).--A brush or cleaning device of some sort is essentially a necessity. Extra flour, which is necessary to keep the dough from sticking to the peel, stays on the stone and will adhere to fresh pizzas. This makes fantastic pizza with the ease of gas (we have a natural gas hookup outside which is even easier) and no worries about cleaning up ash or playing with fire to keep the temperature consistent. Just turn it on, adjust the heat, and go.Highly, highly recommended.

I absolutely love my Koda 16 gas powered pizza oven! It's easy to set up, it's portable, and it's a fantastic size for pizza parties - or just family pizza night. If it's raining outside, I set up the oven on the covered porch and keep making pizzas. If it's snowing, I set up the oven in the garage (on the side with no cars). I keep the garage door opened part way for ventilation. My garage also has a door to the kitchen, so I prep the pizzas inside where it's warm. Yes, the garage can get chilly, but the oven puts off enough heat to warm me up while I'm baking the pizzas. Plus, the pizzas bake so quickly that I'm never out in the cold for very long! I'm still playing around with crust dough recipes - each one being a bit better than the last. Every recipe has been good, but I'm still looking for the best! That's part of the fun of owning an Ooni pizza oven! If you buy an Ooni oven, be sure to get some essential tools, like the oven cleaning brush and the long handled pizza turning peel - both are a must. I also invested in the cast iron pans that Ooni offers. The sizzler pan works great for making several S'Mores at one time - making the grandkids very happy! (Tip for S'Mores in the Ooni - use miniature marshmallows. We found that the marshmallows toast up very quickly in the Ooni. The miniature marshmallows get softer faster and toast more evenly - for the perfect S'More.) Pizza and dessert - a win win!
I really have wanted a pizza oven for many years, so I went with Ooni because of the great reviews. My problem even after using the oven for a few months is failure to launch the pizza onto the ceramic plate. I have no problem when it comes to making 6-7 inch pizzas but anything bigger, toppings fall off and the pizza catches on fire even in the middle of the stone. It’s very frustrating, especially when you have friends over and more than 1/2 thé pizzas are totally ruined!! Before anyone comes to judgement, I have tried everything than Ooni suggests, I have watched tons of you tube videos to see how I can improve and all I get is failure. I use the best pizza dough and sauce is homemaid. I never add too much sauce, cheese or toppings. They suggest using flour under the crust so it slides easily on the peel. The problem is the flour catches on fire! 🔥. I have tried corneal and the same thing. I don’t like the Ooni pizza peel because there’s no holes for the flour to drop off before entering the fire. I have a Ooni temp checker and always make sure the oven is hot enough and turn it down if too hot. I won’t give up making pizzas but for now I will only make them for myself. I guess I’m just underwhelmed and overwhelmed at the same time. I have even gone to MOD to watch them in the process and have even taken pizza classes in Rome. Just disappointed my results are not good. So probably should not have bought it. The rare one that does turn out is good but very few and far between.
Love this little oven. It's compact, easy to move around, and easy to store. It's very solidly constructed, at no point do you feel like it's flimsy or may break (good attribute in a flame-holding-device).Making pizzas in here does require a bit of a learning curve. But you should be a pro after the first 4-5 pies. My advice is to make dough with 55-60% hydration (depends on your flour). Turn the oven up as high as it will go for 15 minutes or so and slide in the pizza. Then drop the oven temp all the way down. This way you get a really really hot stone to cook the bottom but a flame that isn't so hot that it will instantly burn your toppings/crust.Bake for a total of three-four minutes (depends on how thick your dough is) and turn it a bit every thirty seconds. ... Keep the dough towards the front of the oven because temp can vary almost 200 degrees from the front to the back.I've made pizza 4-5 times since I got it about a month ago and my pies are already better than 95% of restaurant pizzas. Add in cheaper and a lot of fun to make and it's a real home run.
It takes a bit longer to hit 800 degree temps in the middle of the stone than the marketing materials claim. For me it’s more like 30-35 minutes to get to temp. But I have used my oven for 3 cooks in the past few weeks and have had success each time.My very first pizza was a bit scorched on the edges and I learned the important lesson to turn down the heat when I launch the pizza. Since then I’ve made 8-10 more pizzas and all have turned out well.Just follow the basic dough recipe on the website/app to start and follow basic website instructions and videos to setup and cook. My only additional advice is to shoot for a temp in the middle of the stone of 750-800 degrees and lower the fire to the minimum (6-o’clock on the gas valve dial) when you launch a pizza. Then ... May not be precisely “Neopolitan” but it’s “-ish” and very tasty and very reliable.
This Ooni Koda 12 pizza oven is awesome! I love it! I have recommended the Ooni Koda 12 to everyone I know. Everyone should have one of these. It is very easy to use. There are so many different brands out there and found great reviews for Ooni pizza ovens. I opted for the propane version because I wanted to make it as easy as possible for myself. I'm sure the wood pellet and wood versions are awesome too but I personally didn't want to deal with the cleanup. My friends and family have fun preparing their personal sized pizzas and then are amazed on how fast it bakes. The temperature reached over 1000 degrees when I went through the initial break in step. The infrared thermometer tool is a must.
We have had fun with our Ooni, the size has meant I can store it in a kitchen cupboard and we are starting to get the hang of making pizzas. It’s large enough for my family and I. I still feel, given that you need to buy every essential accessory separately, it’s still expensive for what it is. Without the thermometer and pizza peel you cannot make a pizza. I would like to see the great Ooni accessories at a more affordable price so I don’t now have to wait until the next sale before buying essential kit. Also, it wasn’t made clear before purchase that we would need a table that wasn’t glass. Our outdoor garden furniture wasn’t suitable for our Ooni so we need to invest in a sturdy spot for it. Given that this is essential it’s important that consumers know before buying. The Ooni is strong, easily to move around and good quality. Some clearer instructions on cleaning the pizza stone would be welcome (I used YouTube for much of my education). We have had the most fun using it and my kids are itching to use it.
I've made pizzas for many years, starting with a regular electric oven and then an outside fairly large wood fired oven. But I wanted to make weekly pizzas in something other than the electric oven. The large wood fired oven takes way to long to get going and heat up to make a pizza or two for dinner and I wanted the ease of the electric with a flame, hence the 16" Koda. I was telling a friend that I bought it and found out his wife got him one for his birthday. He warned me of one thing - turn the flame down when you put the pizza in. Didn't take it to heart and within 5 seconds the exposed crust went flambe. Pulled it out and extinguished the flames, turned down the flame and put it back in. Rotated it a few times and took it out. I happen to like burn t crust so ... I happen to like burn t crust so that part was mine. The second pizza went fine. I make two every Sunday and they are great. tried a calzone and that was great too. It is a great oven and I look forward to trying new new things. Need a grizzler to try some meat and veggies next. Just takes a bit of getting used to.
