Opinel - Stainless Steel Knife N 6

$15.00

(413 reviews)

Opinel is a world-renowned brand for many reasons. Their production is top-notch, their innovative ring-lock is reliable and durable, and their design is timeless. These pocket knives excel at any task, giving you a feeling of self-confidence just by sitting in your pocket. This knife has a stainless steel blade, a relatively new innovation in Opinel designs. Unlike its predecessor, they do not rust and are a much lower maintenance option than their carbon steel cousins. Blade Length 70mm Steel Type Sandvik 12C27 Stainless Rockwell Hardness 57:62 Handle Beech, walnut, olive or bubinga wood Blacksmith/Maker Opinel About Opinel - Opinel is the quintessential French pocket knife. Their history of forging steel goes back to the early 1800's in the Opinel family, and the numbered sizing system that they are known for was created in 1897 by Joseph Opinel. As demand increased, Joseph moved the company to Pont de Govoudaz to create a larger facility, innovating new knife-making machines, training workers, and bringing electricity to the village for the first time ever! Nowadays, Opinel is an internationally recognized design. Their minimalist designed has hardly changed, save for innovative new styles and the use of higher-quality modern steels.

Abandon modernity - embrace tradition! After all the tech toys and fancy bells and whistles I have tried out, the good old Opinel is where I seem to come back to. Comfortable handle, beautiful aesthetics and most of all superior edge geometry.. what more do you need? Oh, and also lightweight! Little bit overshadowed by the popular no 8 but for no reason. Handle is still very comfy for my medium glove hands.

This is a classic knife- no frills- best quality budget knife out here in my opinion. The No 6 is the smallest Opinel with the collar lock (which I like for safety). a good size- big enough to do just about any job, but small enough to throw in your glove box and forget about or sit in your pocket with your keys and wallet. Can't praise these enough- I picked up my first Opinel about 10 years ago and have been a convert ever since- bang for buck is amazing. Good knife to leave around without worrying- it's not expensive, so if it gets lost it won't break the bank- can lock closed- enough to put off a curious child. Small enough that it doesn't look like a weapon. Holds an edge for a long time. Overall fantastic.

Opinel have always been a must have. I keep my No6 in a back pocket and use it several times every day. Opening packaging, slicing cakes, bread rolls and food sharing. Holds a razor sharp edge if treated right, just learn how to sharpen. Positive lock saves chopping fingers off. Larger sizes great for accuracy when model making; better than a Stanley knife with their slim blades. Beautifully simple.

I puchased three Opinel knives 40 yrs. ago. One for my brother one for my dad and one for me. My 88 yr. old dad has his. I have my brothers since he passed last year. I hae had four different ones because I lay them down while working and they dissapear. They are the best allaround working knife I have ever owned and I happily si g their praise to anyone that will listen. I own many knives for different uses bit the one that is always in my pocket is an Opinel.

Great as usual with Opinel. This one is the carbon steel, which takes a little more attention to avoid too much tarnishing, but the trade off is that’s it’s super sharp from the minute you have it. If you’re familiar with Opinel then you already know the deal. A no-brainer for the price!

Glad to have been wrong!

I collect knives from time to time and always passed on Opinel knives, thought they looked cheap and their affordable price did not help me think otherwise. Finally decided that since they've been around for over 100 years, they must be doing something right. So I got a No. 6 with the olivewood handle. The wood is beautiful, fit and finish overall is very solid! The lock is simple and does the job perfectly, feels nice and secure once engaged. Nothing loose anywhere. And the edge itself was very sharp out of the box! Puts others knifes several times it's price to shame. Will most definitively be buying another Opinel in the future :)

This Opinel size 10 knife is the perfect all-round knife. Good quality blade that keeps a good edge. Great quality. I also own a number 6 for smaller jobs.

Brilliant pocket knife. Simple, solid mechanism, nice wood handle that's well shaped and well finished. Dropped a star because the edge was a bit rolled. Didn't take long to get perfect with emery paper, now it has a really sharp edge that lasts well. I think the edge is slightly convex rather than 100% flat and better for it. I've been making shims tricky bits of shuttering to repair a roof. Therese were only from pine wood but very seasoned and it slices through without much effort. Can't open one-handed, but very easy to close and lock one handed - handy working at height and holding on with other hand.
