Oral-B: IO Series 9 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush - Black Onyx

Ive been using this now for about 2 months and so far its been amazing.It cleans better than any other electric toothbrush ive ever had ive only been using protective toothpaste but my teeth have whitened since using this its amazing.Being able to adjust the sensitivity is handy because sometimes it can be a little too intense.The app is very handy it times your brush and using a map it tells you what parts of your teeth you need to brush, it also tells you how long you have left before the head needs to be changed. I always thought electric toothbrushes were a bit gimmicky, but she let me try this one in the practice, and said it would be good for me because I'd been over brushing with a manual toothbrush, and at my 2nd visit had been underbrushing because I was scared to add pressure. This is great because I can feel confident with how much pressure to apply and my teeth feel cleaner than ever.The app is helpful too. Not massively accurate, but helpful. I tend to just brush my teeth as normal and the check it when I think I'm done to see if it thinks I should go over any areas. Given the price, I actually expected it to work like a power bank, a bit like how wireless earbuds work where the you charge the case and it holds the charge and can then charge the toothbrush on the move without wires - imagine what a handy feature that would be for travel! But I was totally wrong, it's just a cheap plastic case that you can plug in, and if the toothbrush is in the case when it's plugged in, it charges, but otherwise it's just a cheap nasty case. It kind of annoys me how it's a bit unclear what they mean by "charging case" on the listings. It doesn't even seem particularly useful. If it had a USB charger instead of s 2-pin shaver plug, that would make sense. But how is this good for charging on the go? Like, where am I going to plug this in at an airport, for example? In fact, I don't even have a 2-pin outlet in my house, so... thanks, I guess. I've had to buy an adaptor for the toothbrush just to charge it, so you missed an opportunity with this one.

Black mold. bad design.

Black mold continues to occur within both the OralB iO9 handle top and brushhead bottom where it attaches to handle. OralB should consider a better design with antimicrobial technology (like Microban® ). As a 20+ year OralB electric toothbrush user, I've never had mold issues with OralB Pro 1000 which is a better anti-mold design. With me being in ortho braces currently, the iO9 definitely cleans my teeth better than Pro1000; however nothing is worth it if mold is involved. I initially started using an iO9 Fall-2021. Since then, I've filed numerous complaints directly to/with OralB: phone calls, emails, and sending original iO9 back to their repair center. Summer-2022 the repair center provided me with a new iO9 handle; and was provided coupons for brushheads. I have following all directions provided by OralB to care for the iO9; and even store the handle & head upside down in a 2-part filtering open dentures container immediately after each usage. I never took the iO9 away from home. I wash & dry my hands before each use. I keep the iO9 away from everything else. I only clean it with toothpaste & tap water. I use a water pick prior to each iO9 use. My dentist sees me twice a month (while in ortho braces) and regular xrays, with no hygiene issues noted nor other dental issues occuring. I keep up with my routine doctor appointments, with all normal test results. I mark on my calendar to start a new brushhead every 2 months. iO9 continued to cause black mold within 1 month of use. No other toothbrushes I've used have mold. Therefore, this mold issue is solely related to iO9.

Brilliant toothbrush

I bought the Oral-b iO9 black pause electric toothbrush for my husband for his birthday and he absolutely loves it .He says it's massive upgrade from his old toothbrush. This one looks very luxurious and stylish in our bathroom. It's very easy to use and it charges so fast . Execellent toothbrush

Despite paying 1/2 price, plus extra 10% off and Boots vouchers, it is still a lot of money for an electric toothbrush. However, I find the app extremely useful in ensuring all areas are fully cleaned. The recommendation is to clean for 2 minutes, but I have only once managed a 100% clean rating on the app in less than 3 minutes so I am unclear as to whether 2 mins is sufficient. Especially as I use the intensive rating and a hard bristle brush. The pressure sensor is great for ensuring you use it with appropriate pressure. By far my biggest bugbear with electric toothbrushes is that the battery capacity gradually declines over time, so within around 2 years they are pretty useless. Given the cost of these I hope they last somewhat longer - but time will tell. However it falls down on the battery life, the app and method of charging. 1. The battery doesn't last for many brushes, and I can see it deteriorating very fast. 2. Why, oh why, when it's an expensive toothbrush, do you find, once you've opened the box, you have to go out again to buy an adaptor to plug in the charger? What's wrong with USB charging? It is supposed to show which areas of the mouth you've brushed, and highlight places missed. Poor battery life

I used to use the Phillips sonic but thought this would be better. It isn’t. Apart from the huge expense the battery life is dire. Using it for the recommended 2 minutes twice a day, it uses 20% each time. Except it’s worse than that because once it gets to 40% it disappears even faster. I am having to recharge every 5-6 days which is mad - and it takes ages.Aside from that, the displays that show how well you have cleaned your teeth are erratic and annoying. For a start, if you go one second over the allotted time, it immediately gives a half smile. And who knows why it sometimes gives a twinkly eyed smile and a normal smile: I clean my teeth the same each time. The performance displays stays on for far too long anyway. It only needs to be on for five seconds max.The red light for too much pressure and the yellow for too little would seem to be useful, but it doesn’t allow for getting into a snagged tooth corner.In addition, the display panel and the ON button are badly sited in terms of being able to check one is on the right programme.Finally, it’s really annoying that the brush head has an angled base so when you separate it for cleaning or charging the handle you can’t stand it up. The same bad design relates to the battery base charger which is tiny and unstable. You have to insert the handle really carefully in case it falls overIn conclusion, I won’t know until I visit my dentist as to whether it’s more or less effective at removing plaque than the Phillips was. That did a brilliant job and I never needed to see the hygienist. Either way I will be going back to the Phillips before long. This one might look good but functionally it leaves a lot to be desired.

Pretty good but...

This is a premium toothbrush which is linked to your phone via bluetooth, and displays your cleaning performance. Plus points include quiet, cleans very well, tells you when you are using too much pressure, multiple cleaning modes (and brush options), no hand vibration. However there are a few flaws. 1. It's a premium product, so why on earth do you have to buy a separate adaptor to actually charge it? A USB cable would have been the way forward. 2. The charging case is simple a case which you still have to plug into the charger (using your separately purchased adaptor again) as opposed to the magnetic charger. 3. The tooth tracking app is not accurate when cleaning the back teeth. Overall conclusion - could do better.

Top of the range is justified

Fantastic toothbrush! Professional clean feeling, quieter than our other electric oral-b toothbrushes we had. My teenager girls love the app, one of them has braces and being able to follow the brushing pattern in the app is motivating her to keep the braces clean. Replacement brush heads are $39 for a pack of 2, so keep in mind that for a family of 4 by the end of the year it will be at least another minimum $200 out of pocket expense just for replacement brushes heads!! This model comes with only one small brush holder for 2 brushes, so not great for a family. Also, the toothbrush is magnetically attached to the stands so if you lift up stand or slightly knock over the brush it can fall, so if lifting stand hold both stand and brush at same time.
