I bought this unit with high hopes, but it has been nothing but trouble. The key problem (which comes up again and again in reviews), is that the hub will not stay connected to the wifi network. Despite attempt after attempt to reconnect, it keeps dropping out immediately after each connection attempt. As a result, the timers do not turn on when scheduled, resulting in no watering. The product comes only with a quick start guide, which is very brief, does not explain how to solve problems, and has only European and US help numbers (no Australian contact details). If you look online, there are more detailed product manuals, but they also don't help solve the connection issue. Really disappointed, and hard to understand how a product like this is being sold in ... MoreI bought this unit with high hopes, but it has been nothing but trouble. I keep comparing it to the Ring security cameras which I bought a year ago, and which have functioned perfectly, and never disconnect from wifi. So it is possible to create a wifi connected product that works, just that these timers don't seem to come anywhere near that goal.

I can't understand some of the negative comments; the instructions (both with the device and online) are really clear. From the problems described I can only assume that the user-error is due to not correctly setting up the hub (yes! It's in the instructions). I started with one device about 30 metres from the hub, through a wall. Wifi reception isn't great, buy more than adequate for this most distant device. 2 additional devices are closer to the hub, but through multiple walls. All work perfectly. The smart mode is incredibly accurate and the options (soil type / slope / sprinkler type etc etc) brilliant. About to buy another device (or two). As they form a mesh network, I'm confident they'll reach my hub.

EXCELLENT WAY TO MANAGE GARDEN WATERING I have gone through a range of electronic tap timers over the years and all were either too hard to program or failed after a short time in the hot Australian sun! I now have 5 orbit tap timers and a wifi hub and they are brilliant! So easy to set up the program via the Orbit app on my Samsung phone and there is also a windows version of the app that i use on my laptop. The timer units are very robust and have metal connections rather than the usual plastic which also means that I was able to achieve a leakproof seal at the tap. the units are compact and unobtrusive and I actually ahve three on one tap (to serve different watering lines). The units run on 2 AA batteries and teh wifi unit is USB powered and comes in a neat powerplug that can be used outdoors (if protected from rain) or indoors. The wifi range is good. My wifi unit is about 60 metres from teh timers and has no trouble maintaining connection. Only "complaint" I have is that the flow rate I have my system running at is very low (drip irrigation) so the apps flow rate meter reports that tehflow is too low to accurately measure.. not a problem for me anyway. the tap timers can be used without buying the wifi hub but you would then need to use yuor phone to connect toe ach one via bluetooth - easy but doesnt have the capaibility to monitor and change programs remotely. ie you need to be next to the timer with your phone if yiou want to make changes. Another neat feature is the manual watering override. You simply press the button on teh front of the timer to start manual watering and press again when you're done. This manual override doesnt need youi to have your phone with you.

I have 9 of these Orbit B-hyve tap timers around the home. Once you have the B-Hyve app installed on a phone or tablet, its fairly easy to pair each timer up and set the watering times. I've had one failure so far after 18 months - the unit worked fine but chewed its 2x AA batteries in 5 days. Otherwise, the batteries last about 5-7 months (Duracell AA, 2x per week). Pretty happy so far. I have the Wifi Hub as well, so I can change the settings from anywhere. Occasionally the units lose signal, but this is usually temporary. The smart watering feature is pretty good - it looks at local weather reports and delays or cancels watering if its raining in your area. Overall 4/5, app could be improved a bit for simplicity; some functions appear to be duplicated.
I look at all these comments and think what ! do we even have the same brand ! My Hub took me 5 min to setup including software updates. supper easy, i plug in hub about 4 meters away from my Wifi rooter, (Telstra smart rooter 2022 model.) and every thing connected to easy, setup the faucet setup my zones tested the smart water option and worked seamlessly then went on by testing manual setup and it is still running. I have had no wifi disconnection no random watering cycles no feed bac err, no battery err. I set it up with google home works perfectly. its the B-hyve Firmware 0030 Version and Hardware is BH1-0001 i am running one Hub and 2 faucets, the distance between the 2 faucets is about 12 meters and no connection problems. one thing i did see in the app is ... So i am very fortunate to have the same product but defiantly the better version of it... and yes it does close hard on the solenoid but that is it. O and also when you run the faucet calibration connect your hose and sprinkler for the faucet to do the correct water flow calibration.
I bought the hub and 2 tap timers about 4 months ago. One timer does the back lawn and the other the garden drippers and they are setup to delay watering when rain is forecast (Smart watering). Our water pressure is very high and so far no issues. the most distant timer is about 15 meters away from the hub with 3 brick walls in between. The instructions that came with it are are not clear so it took half a day to get it setup properly. At first i thought each tap timer was a zone but in fact each tap timer is an independent watering system with one zone. The app could be improved by showing status of all your systems on the home screen rather than having to know how to navigate to them. In the end the lawn looks very healthy and the garden is doing well. I dont need ... MoreI bought the hub and 2 tap timers about 4 months ago. Great idea, but terribly executed. All I wanted was the ability to schedule my sprinklers to turn on once every few days, and be able to monitor it when I am away for work. It’s that simple, but with a battery life between a week and a month, it’s just not fit for purpose. In addition, the app is clunky and over complicated, and the wifi attachment permanently takes up a nearby power socket. It has now been returned to Bunnings and I have purchased something more reliable.
I love the app look and feel and the design and manufacturing quality appears to be great, however this unit is not what it appears to be. It has some serious issues which is EXTREMELY disappointing because I was really looking forward to a smart convenient solution for my irrigation. The B-Hyve products are exceptionally well marketed and their product brochures and videos are top quality, however this device has some serious software engineering problems and some basic solenoid design issues as follows: 1) ROGUE WATERING - In my opinion this is the most problematic and dangerous issue with this product. The B-Hyve products are exceptionally well marketed and their product brochures and videos are top quality, however this device has some serious software engineering problems and some basic solenoid design issues as follows: 1) ROGUE WATERING - In my opinion this is the most problematic and dangerous issue with this product. At unexplained times the system starts randomly watering outside of its programmed times and it will sometimes continue for hours. If you do not hear it or you are away and nobody stops it from running then you will be stranded with a flooded property and a gigantic water account. If this system disconnects from the wifi for whatever reason such as router lock downtime or security downtime etc then expect random, unexplained rogue watering. This is the units single biggest major fault which is too much of a risk 2) SETUP - Connection and setup are simple unless you want to make some changes. Any changes. Even a simple reconnection or wifi network change, and then you may as well put aside 6 hours to reset and reprogram the thing over and over until you get it working. The setup is not intuitive enough and does not cater for strictly wifi or strictly Bluetooth so it gets confused on pairing and battles to see the existing devices. 3) RESET / PAIRING - There is no clear reset or device pair reset help process meaning that when it doesnt work you spend hours resetting and re "pairing" the devices to the hub and the hub to the wifi. It continually cannot find the network and when it does it fails to connect. 4) SOLENOID - I agree with other reviews regarding the solenoid issue. The solenoid causes a loud and damaging MAJOR "water knock" through the whole house. I agree with the review which wrote - "Mechanically though, the solenoid is rubbish and doesn't have a soft close feature causing really bad water hammer... I've taken mine off and bought another controller!" 5) PRODUCT SUPPORT - As mentioned by other reviews the product support is attrocious. You simply need to do a Google search on "Orbit random watering" and then look through the results until you see the Orbit community forums and to have a look at the sheer volume of complaints and angry clients - with no customer service feedback and no resolution. This company will collapse unless they sort this out soon I see that the company encompasses multiple brands including Hydro-Rain, Bond, Orbit and obviously b-hyve and that the group which is based in Salt Lake City Utah USA was sold in 2019 to an investment group called Platinum Equity. I am guessing this downhill trend in engineering and support started since then Very disappointed because this product has such incredible potential
I purchased the B-Hyve Tap Timer and WiFi Hub as a starter pack to see if it worked. Happily I can report having purchased an additional timer tap to connect into the hub. It is easy to set up, provides quality data and simply switches on and off when asked. There is a definite "click" when the valve opens or closes that I find reassuring. The valves are on a manifold connected to rainwater tanks (not the household system) so there is no water hammer effect. You do have to get your head into each tap timer being a zone and the device must be selected as the active device on the app to see information and control it - but once you do it's easy and pretty logical why that is the case on the app. The additional unit took me longer to plumb in than to set up, pair to ... I would like to see an internet based "dashboard" be made available as it would improve visualization of water usage patterns and moisture levels. Anything that optimizes our use of water across the garden would be an advantage. Looking forward to gradually replacing the 20th century "steam driven" technology set with this new one and integrating moisture sensors and our weather station for smart watering.
Two problems. Set everything up (3 timers) and seemed to work okay. Took off overseas 1 week later. Problem 1. Using the app I can see that one tap is watering fine and stating how many litres used. The other two show zero litres used so I have no idea if they are working or not. Problem 2. Neighbours message me this morning and say they can hear water. They let themselves into the house and discover one timer is leaking. So they've turned it off. Could be coming home next month to two parts dead garden.
