I've used this radio in my role in Logistics. From ambient temperatures to minus 22 degrees. This radio has been subject to drops on concrete and subject to condensation and rain. The battery life is amazing, seeing me through four work days without a recharge. Only one criticism I work in a noisy environment, the volume is loud enough but the clarity could be better. Keep in mind, this radio lives in my top freezer jacket. I sometimes forget this isn't a commercial radio, but can easily pass as one. The ULTRA550 reception out performs my in car UHF radio.

Battery cover does not slide in and sit properly leaving a gap for water to get in . i sent photo to oricom support team with inserting 5 papers in the gap, but he refused to replace the product. keep saying water will not get into the handset. He thinks paper can go in the gap but not the water. if i push the battery cover 2 mm from the bottom to up it goes, when i takeout my thumb it comes back. I told him i am going to leave this review in your website , he disconnected my phone call.

I purchased the UHT550 to use for “escorting” a group of road bike riders on a ride from Perth in WA to Newcastle NSW. Purchased a pack inclusive of handset, in car charging system and external magnetic mount antennae. Performance and battery life were great on the long slow convoy and enabled me to communicate with other road users to keep riders and others safe and calm.Whenever I’ve had an issue Customer Support have been fantastic explaining how to help them diagnose and set up instructions. Twice now they’ve chosen to replace items that weren’t working to spec. Definitely recommend the product and company. About to purchase a fixed mount too.

With being a long haul truck driver, the ability to have a portable radio is a luxury. With this small, but mighty radio, it’s been a real godsend, helping with hooking up multiple trailers, and helping to stay in contact with forklift operators while loading/unloading. It’s robust, after dropping it a few times, it bounces back and works like new. It’s easy to use, for me it was intuitive, and simple. It is lightweight for it’s size, easyily fitting in shirt pockets and being forgotten about. This radio does what it claims, with out any fuss or fanfare, I would definitely buy another radio when the time comes. Keep up the great work Oricom
We also have the older oricom 5w handhelds. Cant fault those over about 5 years. We have the waterproof one in another vehicle now.Again, they work perfectly.Compact!Battery lasts days & days!Microphone is sensitive, i don't need to pick it up is great. We also used the magnetic base, its very light & compact. That increased distance by 2-3 times. In undulating highway terrain we had 5k distance loud n clear.Further from rises.Very happy, perfect product for those not wanting to fit a permanent unit to the vehicle.Highly recommend.
The volume and reception keep failing for no apparent reason. I noticed the problems on the first unit and had a number of experienced UHF users to examine the unit and test it. We compared it to a one watt hand held unit and the one watt unit performed better. I reset the radio and tried switching it on and off. I got the radio replaced and the same problems have returned. Some times the volume functions normally and sometimes the radio becomes very quiet. Similarly, the reception is equally unreliable. I'm going to call Oricom, but at this stage, the radio is not really a useable tool.
Bought any ultra 550 hand held cb, better than most mounted cb. The range on this little beauty is up to 100ks. Thanks oricom. And it's an Australian company wich I always prefer, even if it's not made in Australia, should start getting the dole bludger working. LOL.
After having an Oricom UHF base unit in our vehicle, we chose the Ultra550 x 5 watt as a handheld unit for the times we were away from our vehicle. The unit feels good to hold and isn’t heavy and has a strong outer casing. It’s also small enough to slip in your pocket and clips nicely on a belt or backpack strap. We find it’s easy to view channels and settings even in bright harsh sunlight. The audio is clear and loud enough to be heard even while riding our quad bike, and the reception has been great and signal strength fine even when climbing in and around gorges. We occasionally use an external microphone which screws into place so it can’t work loose - this way the unit can be tucked away safely in a pocket and the hand piece clips nicely to your shirt. While we’re yet to use it with our tinnie, it’s nice to know it will survive being dropped in water with its IP67 rating. The battery life typically lasts 3 to 4 days on the tracks before needing a recharge, and the docking station meant it was easy to recharge while travelling in our vehicle. We were after a unit that could withstand the harsh and dusty conditions, and something that was robust should it get dropped when rock climbing or tracking about in sand, mud and water. Our Ultra550 hasn’t missed a beat and we’re more than happy with it.
I purchased the item for our caravan travels throughout Australia in the future. It seems well built and a compact design and as I didn't want an installed cb radio, it is perfect for my needs. The item was recommended through a caravan magazine. I have not fully tested it yet but it seems to work fine. My only criticism is that the instruction manual is a bit basic. It does not give enough information about each setting. I am a newbie at using this type of device and am a bit lost on setting it up correctly. Otherwise very pleased and I'm sure it will be well used.
My girlfriend and I started traveling around Aus at the start of 2019. I had very cheap handheld UHF units with a “that’ll do” attitude. But I soon realised that it’s very important to have a decent UHF unit. I went for this handheld unit as I didn’t have to worry about an install on the road. Coupled with the magnetic antenna for when I need the extra range (especially handy that I can stick it to the roof for maximum range) this unit performs just as well as any hard mounted units I’ve seen and used. Being handheld it’s great to take outside the vehicle for recoveries and even on hikes. Also it has a really robust feeling to it so I’m not afraid to knock it around and am confidant it will give me many years of service.
