Great! Two fit in small car, has its limitations

We love these things. They are severely limited: you cannot be in any waves, the water must be basically flat for this lake version. We would have gotten the bigger ones if they were cheaper. We can fit two of these in the trunk of our small crossover which basically lets us throw a boat in the water anywhere we want. We use them in very sheltered water ways in the Bay Area. If the larger versions were cheaper, we would have got those instead for stability. Our dog loves this by the way.

I'm really loving my Oru kayak and have had it out more than a handful of times this summer! For the price you are getting quick and simple a/de-ssembly, aesthetics, light weight, and compactness. My buddy also got a folding kayak but from a competitor, and he mentioned that the Oru looks much more sophisticated while his is a high school project. I said it's just more 'makeshift'; while his does the trick for much less cost, it's also more complex and heavier.I love how light the Lake+ is, and it's understandable that it will do some fish tailing when you're paddling because of its lightweight; come on people, you can't have it both ways, right? I've had many older folks and curious younger folks come and ask me about it... I may be one of your best salespeople ... MoreI'm really loving my Oru kayak and have had it out more than a handful of times this summer! Hahahaha (I accept commissions :P) There are pros and cons with everything, but for my use this checks all the boxes for my goals.I've practiced and timed myself; I can set up my Lake+ in 3 minutes, while take down just takes about 2 minutes ^_^ one lady lifted mine and told her husband about how nice it was, while he was on his step ladder, struggling to get their two kayaks on top of their SUV; I can just set mine in my hatchback. I actually like the larger opening of the cockpit because it gives me better access and more space for stuff. I was able to set up my tripod and phone to do a video even!I'm planning on ordering the strap because I'm short and stout (like a teapot! :P 5'1") and the carrying strap would definitely help! If you get this, you'll find yourself watching the weather wondering when's the next time you can get out and paddle! The special they're running right now is also amazing; for less price when I got just the kayak, and you get some nice accessories too! DO IT!!!!!!!!!

I took this out for my first paddle yesterday, and I was so happy with it! After looking at reviews suggesting it takes a few tries to get good at assembling the boat and to break it in, I made sure to set it up a few times just in my living room, which got me used to the process and helped be figure out the trouble spots (that swallow tail gave me fits until I realized I was pushing the wrong way!). I also let it sit assembled for about 30 mins each time so it could get used to its boat shape. When I went to set it up yesterday at the lake, I couldn’t believe how fast it went together—I was heading to the water in about 5 minutes. Getting in and out is something I’ll need to practice more, but I found that the boat rode beautifully—it just glides smoothly through ... MoreI took this out for my first paddle yesterday, and I was so happy with it! The adjustable back to the seat was also really nice to have, and I was able to readjust myself whenever I developed some fatigue from being in one position too long. I was out for an hour and just had a lovely time! My can’t wait to get back in it. Because it’s so easy to pack, set up, and break down, I can spend more time on the water and less prepping to get there, so I foresee the boat getting a lot of use this summer!

Loving my Oru!
30 June 2024

I am thoroughly enjoying my Oru Lake kayak! It’s incredibly easy to assemble and disassemble. It handles very nicely on calm water. And I can store it easily in my urban condo and transport it without issue in my Prius! My only issue is, I felt the assembly instructions were very poor and included several errors. This was frustrating for the first time assembling. After that, of course it was not a problem. But there was a little bit of anxiety, even before opening the box and to find the instructions to be lacking and clarity only added to the frustration. For instance, I’m still not sure if the orange seat is supposed to go above or below or within the rails on the side of the kayak.

ME AND MY ORU…AT 77!!
15 July 2024

I can’t really think of anything to complain about. I’ve been out twice and each time it was simple doing the assembly, as was getting in and out, putting it in the water and paddling. I still don’t have the back strap pulled tightly, but that will loosen up as time goes on. For the record. I am female, 77, Arthritis and other physical issues preside at a minimum, BUT, I’ve been able to handle this Kayak quite easily. And of course everybody wants to know about it. Buckle up because next year will be crazy busy for you. The word is passing quickly. Most everyone I run into has a comment; most of them have already seen the boat and are interested or know someone who is interested. Just a FYI.

ORU Lake Sport VERY much inferior to the Inlet
1 July 2024

I have owned an ORU inlet for three years which is GREAT. I bought this during the sale for 4th of July for $559, thinking it would be a good second boat for our family when friends visit. The quality of construction, fit and finish is much, much inferior to the Inlet. It is either that, or the entire company has dropped in quality. I am returning this, within 24 hours, of having picked it up (luckily I bought in person at REI and am a coop member). I will now purchase and pick up an Inlet. I very much hope that the quality of a 2024 inlet matches the 2021 or tomorrow's purchase will be going back as well!

Perfect solution!

I have been paddling for decades, even being a whitewater river guide. But battling a cancer that eats bones has limited my paddling to flat water rivers and lakes in the Adirondacks of northern NY. But we frequently host a guest or two, and we need THREE boats. Here was the solution! A kayak that could fit into the back of the car instead of on the roof racks. And it is light enough for me to manage with my 65-year age and my handicaps after breaking vertebrae, ribs and leg bones.I am still fighting a bit to make the folds happen (they are new and still a little resistant, and I'm not strong) and I usually get help to manage the swallowtail back. But I can get on the water in about 5 minutes. I also appreciate the adjustable back, the foot rest and the gel seat (extra), because my femurs broke at the hip level and the gel seat allows me to comfortably paddle for over an hour. The Oru Kayak is easy, lightweight and tracks well on the lake. I can keep up with my partner in his Hornbeck canoe. I have had the Oru Kayak less than a week, but it has been out paddling 3 times already. And that's even before we have guests!I can't paddle whitewater, xc ski or hike any longer, but I can still get out to enjoy the beauty of the Adirondacks on the lakes. This Oru Kayak will allow me to get there more easily and to share the beauty of this area with guests. What a great invention! Thank you!

Taking on water?? Please advise!

I have used my Lake Sport twice since unpacking it. I set up the kayak according to your video and manual instructions, but it takes on a bit of water in the rear portion of the boat. The back portion is particularly challenging to align on my kayak - specifically the inner fold. Those portions do not line up well, even after tightening the inner strap. I can send photos of the kayak for proof.I have photos after 30-45 minutes of use and after 15 minutes of use showing the amount of water and can send them along for proof. It appears to be about a 1/4-1/2 cup of water after 30-45 minutes of use. During my first use, I kayaked for about 1-1.5 hours. By the time I was finished, the entire seat portion and seat of my pants was wet from water. Is this normal? Again, I ... MoreI have used my Lake Sport twice since unpacking it. Fantastic! We finally got the New Lake Sport on the water for an extended paddle just the other day. Easily the best Kayak experience I have ever had. So easy to unfold and fold up afterwards, no need to haul a stepladder to reach the roof and struggle to load our SunDolphins after a long day! Some little things I didn’t even consider - even in the full Sun the white kayak stayed cool and comfortable. ( almost got black but glad I didn’t) . It’s super maneuverable on the water , real easy to get around obstacles. The straps for the adjustable footrest hold a water bottle and dry box against the sides perfectly too. I’m discovering more pluses every day. Time to buy another!!

Unfolding an experience
28 July 2024

I was looking for a lightweight kayak to downsize to from my 40 plus pound inflatable. I love my inflatable, it’s like riding in a luxury kayak but as I’ve added years I have needed more help. The Oru Lake sport is like a sports car! It allows me to be independent! The first set up was challenging but it has gotten easier. I love the wide cockpit because it allows me to sit cross legged. The seat is uncomfortable after a few minutes so I added a thick cushion to keep me from sitting flat.Huge relief to my back. Take down is a breeze!I love this easy kayak! One improvement I would like to see (literally) easy to read identification.I can not read the registration number to register my Lake.
