I got this thinking it was Plano brand and didn't look closely enough to see that it's not. There are multiple issues with this design. There are numerous plastic "tabs" that have not been cleaned off and some of them are very sharp and could tear your hand if you're not careful. These are on the shelf beds, which I snipped off with a bonsai knuckle cutter, and on the legs, which I had to sand off with a palm sander. The square legs are much harder to assemble than round ones and the overall feel of the units is flimsy and unstable. I don't know if they will stand up to use so am not downgrading for that, but may have to replace with a better brand and exile these to a less-used storage area.

What a piece of garbage. The pieces are warped and simply won't fit together. The shelves are flimsy and one corner arrived with a small crack that I failed to notice right away. The corner craked even more during assembly. We get one level assembled and the next level doesn't fit. Kicking myself for not buying the metal shelf I saw on Ikea. I can't express how deeply I LOATHE this piece of garbage. And of course, I just missed the return window this week. We tried to assemble it in January and got too frustrated and decided to save it for another time. Should have driven it to the store the day it arrived and asked for a refund.

I ordered two sets of these white plastic, heavy-duty shelves. They are suitable for toys and books with very little chance of them bowing in the shelf center. (A whole shelf of books can be pretty heavy.)You will need a sharp-edged knife, like a pocket knife, or small straight-edged paring knife to trim back miscellaneous pieces of plastic. Also, you will need a small hammer, and a couple thicknesses of cardboard to get the legs to settle fully into the bases. DO NOT hammer directly onto plastic. Put a couple of layers of cardboard in between plastic point you wish to push down, and use the side, not the head of the hammer to gently, but firmly tap into place. Please use your own common-sense, and be responsible for your own decisions. What I have written above, and below are my opinions/suggestions only; and, based on my own personal, first-hand experience with this product that I just received. In my opinion, the price is good for Heavy Duty, but this kind of heavy-duty is use in your home, not necessarily workshop heavy items over a long period of use.Additionally, of the two set, 8 shelves, 32 sockets: two sockets had one small chip each, hence 4 stars instead of 5.Though it does not make a person feel crazy knowing their purchase wasn't "perfect," the reality is, they were very small, and in no way impacted the assembly, or the integrity of the whole, because when properly assembled, each post rests deeply in each shelf socket; and, for the price, and the lack of availability of a similar heavy-duty set that's not gargantuan; and, because I need more, I have ordered two more sets. But, because of these chips, I still feel certain they are heavy-duty for in the home only where they won't necessarily get a high level of abuse, like in a workshop, for example, where they might chip, or crack, and basically break. Also, if properly set into the sockets, the posts rise above the surface of the shelf to form a turret about 1/4" above the shelf in each corner. I have already gotten used to the appears, and it is no big deal, or for the price, and that it really is a light-weight version of more heavy, and more expensive, by as much as double the price of other heavy-duty shelves.I just mention it because you can't see the top of the shelves easily in the photo provided to realize its appearance if the posts are fully in their sockets to look like little turrets on the top, and not flush with the shelf. Also each leg comes with "up" arrows pressed on two sides. When assembling, you may wish to turn these so they do not face front. Also the sides of the shelves with mounting holes are meant to face the wall, and is not the front facing side.Hope this does help. Lets face it. If your buying plastic shelving, you're hoping it will go the distance. If you are looking for a good, inexpensive, moderate weight bearing, sturdy, heavy-duty, white plastic shelf for primarily in home use...well, I am getting an additional two sets. :)
I never got them put together. I could not get any of the legs to lock into the holes. I tried 2 shelves and 6 or 8 legs. None would go in. Instructions say "you may need to tap on them to get them in". They did not even look/feel like the shape matched so, no, not hitting them with a hammer. I have several sets of this type of shelves, not this brand, and have had no trouble getting them to snap together. Sent them back.
These These shelves look great and are sturdy, but are a little difficult to put together. The instructions are easy, but because the legs have to be interlocked with each other, you have to hammer them in, and this may bend the ends of them slightly, which makes it harder to add the next leg. I suggest using a rubber mallet and hardback book to help prevent bending. Also, taking them apart is hard as well, so make sure you have them lined up correctly before hammering them together. The best way to put them together, is to 1st turn the shelf upside down and insert the legs, arrows down. This means that each time you are adding a leg, you are putting the wider end of the leg over the narrower end for easier interlocking. Does not come with how to instructions. You would think pretty simple but it’s not. At first I thought oh it’s going to fall what a piece of crap. Well then I finally figured it out. You turn it upside down as if your making the top first on the floor. You push the sticks all the way in. When going to the next level is when it gets tricky. You must do what you did to the first part again but do not put attached to the first part yet! Once you have what seems to look like two tables upside down and you have pushed the sticks all the way in so that it pokes out the top. That is when you push it into the other “table”. This way makes it so much easier!! Let me tell you!! If you try to just put both legs in the level holes it will never work.
I like this unit so much I just ordered 2 more in black. I put it together without the instructions because I didn't know it was in the box. It had clung to the side but I had no problem figuring it out, anyway. I noticed some people mentioned they had wobble but if you make sure the legs are properly snapped into place this should not happen. I had a couple stubborn ones but a little patience and proper pressure will set them in securely. Since these are stackable, you can go as high as you want. I left one section out to use as a separate table. They hold weight well and another plus is that they are light enough when empty to pick up and move around.
I have purchased a ton of plastic utility shelving in my lifetime. Some have been better than others, but none have been bad. Until now. This unit is one of the most poorly designed plastic utility shelving units I've ever purchased. If you are needing one to be freestanding, spend a bit more on a name brand to get a better quality. The only reason I am not returning this unit is because I needed one that is 30 x 14 to fit in a small closet that is very slightly larger than 30 x 14. This unit is wedged tightly into the closet, so it will not be able to move. The square legs are so ill-fitting it would not otherwise stand upright on its own. I am a very non-critical person when it comes to consumer products. I can usually make just about anything work well enough. ... MoreI have purchased a ton of plastic utility shelving in my lifetime. these shelves are a bit tricky to put together. using a rubber mallet and a thick towel to protect the plastic really helps get things put together tightly. one end of each leg is narrow and the other end is wider. the narrow end goes into the bottom of the shelf, tapping with your mallet and towel at every insertion. after placing a new shelf on and tapping into place, you put the wider end of the leg around the narrow end of the leg when it is inside the shelf, always tapping into place with your mallet and towel. I found the provided instructions to be lacking. I actually got the mallet and towel tip from another reviewer here. Once I took that advice everything came together to easily and quickly. I am very happy with these sturdy and very affordable shelves.
