This is a fantastic bag! I bought this as in my big move from places like Mountain Warehouse to solid brands ("buy cheap, buy twice"). Seeing the bag advertised at a discount with someone like Jason Fox sticking up for it caught my attention. I'm spending more and more days out in the mountains so purchased and went from there. As soon as it arrives you can just see the value compared to other bags I've had. The build quality, texture, features. I've used this for a few single days, most notably Snowdon with my 5 year old in December and Scafell Pike with her again in April. Different weather conditions, plenty of room for extra kit and her stuff too. The bag is easily adjustable, really comfortable, and just feel like it's a part of you with no back pain. This bag ... MoreThis is a fantastic bag! In the meantime, I am will be looking to buy the Archeon 30 or Talon 36 for some single day usage to support the Archeon 45 too.The hydration pouch will fit your normal narrower camel pack water unit in, but I am looking in to the wider Osprey hydration units to spread the space a bit more.Lastly, there's a brilliant video on YouTube by Forrester Bushcraft which goes into detail with the bag. If you're not placing an order by the end of that video, I'm disappointed in you!

I had gotten my husband the men's version of this bag and loved it so much I got the women's version for myself. It does not disappoint. This is the most functional bag I've ever seen, much less owned. It's also incredibly comfortable and sits high on the hips, significantly reducing strain on the back. I love all of the adjustment straps as well, the placement of these is perfect and makes for easy adjustments for the best fit, with the added bonus of this bag being specific to the female form, all the straps are in the right place so as not to squish (a problem I have had previously with other women-geared bags). The only thing I would change is I would love some added padding to the lower back hip region. I loaded this up with 40lbs worth of gear (which is heavier than what I normally carry - usually around 30lbs) and while it is the most comfortable bag I've ever worn, there was some pressure on the back hip part, but I can probably figure something out with that.Worth the cost, I highly recommend this bag!

I came to this pack in a rather roundabout route, I won't bore you with the details but suffice to say that I found Osprey's customer service absolutely first class. The Archeon replaced my beloved 1988 Karrimor Alpiniste that I finally retired, I settled for the black colour for the Archeon in contrast to the hot pink and cyan of its predecessor, but colour differences apart the styling and build quality of the Archeon reminds me of the old school "bomber" rucksacks from my youth - I love the metal buckles in particular. It isn't a light pack by any means, but seems to "carry light" somehow. While there are loops for ice axes or poles I was initially puzzled by the absence of corresponding straps or elastic ties above them, but in fact the axe shaft or pole sits neatly behind a flap next to the upper compression strap on each side. The double access zips are probably superfluous for me as I tend to use a drybag as a liner, I saved a bit of weight by removing the raincover though. Build quality is absolutely superb, and I full expect that this pack will see me through the rest of my days.

So far this pack has only impressed me. I was a little concerned having read multiple reviews talking about the lack of padding and plastic frame that was uncomfortable against the back, however so far I haven’t found this to be very uncomfortable. For sure, it is less padded then the Osprey Atmos or Kestrel, but personally I didn’t want an ultra-padded backpack with lower quality, thinner materials, and more chance of breaking or ripping. The padding is a thin layer of fabric and foam with a plastic piece underneath that slides up and down. The Archeon has a nice balance of feeling both durable and comfortable enough. It is on the heavier side, however I am not a thru hiker looking for ultra light gear so I haven’t been too bothered by this. My main usage has been ... MoreSo far this pack has only impressed me. It is on the heavier side, however I am not a thru hiker looking for ultra light gear so I haven’t been too bothered by this. My main usage has been 3-5 day backpacking trips in Colorado, both ascending 14ers and doing loops, and I have really enjoyed it. After using the pack multiple times, it feels “broken in,” and has only felt more comfortable. For someone looking for an ultralight, thru backpacking, very comfortable backpack, this may not be the pack for you. For someone looking for a durable, multi day pack that can be dropped, tossed around, bumping around on rocks and trees and not have to worry about any damage, this is a great pack.
I have not had a chance to try this out in the field, but it feels very sturdy and the attached rain cover is great compared to having to carry one around separately. The frame of the bag feels a bit overly bulky for a 30 litre bag. There are two metal rods that keep the frame structure, which seems a bit unnecessary! This makes the bag quite heavy, but helps it sit higher up on your back. I am switching to this from a Talon 33, so will see whether I regret the lack of a side mesh pocket and 3 fewer litres of space. Otherwise it looks very stylish and look forward to using it on my commute and weekend trips.
This pack is tough as nails and ultra functional. I love the G-buckles. I specifically use this pack for single night solo adventures. I can pack everything I need for one night including a BV425 bear canister. I could probably use this for 2 night adventures if I didn’t have to use a bear canister. Bottom line: this pack is an excellent product.
Purchased the Archeon 45 after owning the 25 and subsequently 30. The 45 is the perfect incarnation of the range in my view. It' doesn't feel much bigger than the 30 but actually offers a good deal more capacity. It can pack down thanks to the dual straps better even if not full and comes in two sizes for the back. I really enjoyed the 30 but the 45 is no more inconvenient but more capable. Whilst heavy, I expect this from the fabric and construction and it's an ideal bag for overnight mountain adventures, very durable. The additional pockets and superb entry opening up the front of the bag with double zips is extremely handy. Storing kit and accessing it is very easy. Plus, it looks cool and is ethically manufactured.
So I really wanted to like this pack. I am not a fan of all the neon, shiny, over-pocketed packs out there. This pack really is beautiful and I commend Osprey for going for a timeless and sleek style. However, there are quite a few things that made this pack an instant return item for me.I'll start with the things I like:- Material is heavy duty, zippers and stitching are great quality- Water bottle holders are a nice size and not too loose- Shoulder straps are pretty comfy- Front zipper that opens from the bottom is great- Hip belt pockets are a nice size- Side compression straps are a good design (but get in the way of water bottle pockets)So yeah then here's the not like list:- There's is virtually no padding on the back of this pack. I mean like zero. There is a semi rigid plastic backing that ends in a sharp edge at the bottom where the pack sits on your tail bone area. The hip belt padding is hard and the belt itself is not very large. Not comfortable at all. To the degree that I don't know how this made it to production- The pack is balanced oddly on the internal frame. It feels like the shoulder straps are much too low so the pack is top heavy. Also the frame sticks up almost to the top of my head and is so close to the back of my head that I can't look up fully.- The top floating lid easily gets pulled forward so the the back of it slips over the frame and exposes the main compartment- The metal buckles to secure the lid easily slip out of their loops when agitating the pack- The sleeping bag compartment at the bottom is nice to have but is pretty small and very hard to open and and close, especially when the pack is full, because of the internal stitching.- Compared to other 70L packs I've had and tried, this one just feels small and I can't seem to stuff as much in.- It would be nice to have just one decent external cargo pocket- Price is WAY too high for this pack not more comfortable and have more thought out featuresIf someone at Osprey is reading this, please keep the look but fix the function, especially the comfort factor and get rid of the awful plastic backing piece.
I got this bag the morning that I was due to leave for Europe. I quickly repacked my stuff and took my new pack as carryon luggage. Between a small suitcase and this pack, I could move around and do everything I wanted. For a weekend trip out of town, I took this bag and nothing else. I love it. Can't wait for more adventures. It was easy to adjust and comfortable to carry as I walked at least 5 km over city streets on a hot day.
This looked perfect on the web site. I wanted a smaller, light, streamlined daypack of 30L. But when it arrived, it was basically a pack board. The frame was stiff and unyielding. That might help on a high volume pack, but this was for a puffy, raincoat, and food. Frame stiffness is beyond what is needed for the volume. I returned it unused and bought a BD climbing pack with a removable frame.
