I bought this for a trip to Uganda and Reykjavik. With lots of airport changes I wanted to travel light for a change and just take a carry one bag. This one was delightful - easy to pull, right sized pockets in the right places, backpack straps that were available werenât too serious (so didnât take up valuable packing space). And an unbelieveably awesome warranty. So why only 1 star? The actually dimensions are 14w x 8-9 x âŠ. 23! Way too big for any overhead bin. So back to the store it goes before I even get to try its awesomeness. It would be nice if MEC and Osprey put actual dimensions in their listings. Soooo disappointed!

I just replaced my Daylite roller to have the original professionally cleaned after amessy accident. This piece is absolutely what you want and need for budget air travel where cabin and weight restrictions are severe. Two weeks means it will slip into any overhead bin, and wearing in on your back at checkin means they will never ask you to check it. In airports, on arrival and off grid, this mini beast does it all. Plus, looks somewhat elegant at hotel reception. I would prefer that the Osprey logo be a bit muted ⊠hopefully the company is reading this review.

With organizational help from packing cubes and occasional hand laundering, this 40L bag enabled me to pack for a distance wedding which required two sets of dress clothes and corresponding shoes, as well as standard travel clothing and two alternate pairs of shoes. I was even able to incorporate small gifts along the way. The website says that the bag fits carry on standards, but when I measured it, it measured 22.5â which is half an inch larger than the stated standards. At the sizer at the airport, it was within specs in the other 2 dimensions.However, the benefit of the backpack straps on this bag is that when they were looking for rolling bags to check in for a full flight to OâHare, I just put the bag on my back and was never questioned. On the return flight at the Paris airport, the check in agent asked to see my bag, said ok, then asked my wife if she would like to check her backpack. It fit easily in every overhead bin on the 4 planes we traveled on.In France we almost exclusively used public transportation and is was nice to be able to put this pack on my back to allow me to better handle my larger checked bag through the subway, RER, trains and the streets of Paris and Strasbourg.It handled well when I rolled it through the airport and on the less congested streets while walking to our hotels. It held a fair amount of gear. After I rolled it a bit, the stuff settled enough that I was able to stuff my XL hoodie into the full bag once I got to the airport.The double pole handle allowed me to strap my messenger bag on top as I rolled my way around the airport. A single pole handle would not have held the other bag as securely.One thing I did was to put a loop of paracord on the top handle so that I could use the Velcro strap wrap to hold the handles together and onto the loop to keep the straps high off of the ground while rolling the bag around throughout the trip. When I needed to put the bag on my back, all I had to do was undo the Velcro and put the bag on my back. This also allowed me to pack more gear because the front pocket didnât have the straps tucked in and I was able to leave the straps attached the whole time for quicker, easier switching between carry modes. After I took my camera out for security, the duffle bag straps allowed me to carry the bag away flat without the load shifting, allowing for easier replacement into the bag away after the screening area.Overall, quite pleased with this bag and how it handled. I almost didnât bring it because of all of the reviews that said itâs too big. I read all the reviews I could find and they all said, itâs too big for carry on, or it worked fine, with none really stating how well it got through the bag checkers, so I wanted to share my experience. It is half an inch taller than specs, but I never had an issue. The last people to board my last flight had a bag that wouldnât even fit in some of the bins on the plane, so there are people getting on the plane with larger bags.
We bought 2 of these for our 1 month trip to Italy. We flew Air France and had no issues whatsoever with bringing them as carry on. In fact I was able to fit the bag into one of those bag testers although airline staff didnât even give us a second look. Itâs amazing to see the size of the bags that people bring as carry on. As far as features go it is an outstanding bag with all the bells and whistles and robustness youâd expect from an osprey product. Interestingly we never used the carrying straps. The heavy duty wheels and handle handled the stairs and cobblestone streets effortlessly.

That style of handle is not easy to carry another bag on top of which is why I bought this bag because it has two posts and my carry-on sleeve fits over perfectly . The bag is lightweight & has lots of room. I like that the material is flexible so it can be stuffed like a knapsack and can be worn as a knapsack or wheeled . These features are very good particularly for travelling areas where you need to travel on/off trains, up stairs, etc.. although I have not used this bag yet on a trip , I have used other Osprey bags and noted they have excellent wheels for travelling in Europe particularly over cobblestones. It has a double type handle which is great for stacking g another bag on top the single pole type wonât support a bag they just fall off. There is a long pocket on side with zip I closure. no other pockets inside. There is a fairly large pocket at top of bag and a full one in front. There are backpack straps that can be stored in a small pocket. They donât have hip belt but for occasional backpack need itâs great and they are removal if your doing more domestic travel. The wheels are larger very durable. But the backpack straps took a good part of the bag up and it was a single pole handle.they are both 40 liters and carry on size.the wheels on the Fairview were larger also nice for travel internationally. It also had a more back pack look to it. I was ok with that but the features seemed more usable for all needs with this bag.
Osprey packs have been my go-to on the trail and travel. My aging Osprey Porter 46 has been perfect and durable. I just purchased a new Osprey Daylite 40L! It actually holds more than the Porter 46 and is easier to pack. It has durable wheels and a two ht. handle. It comes with 2 pack straps, however I removed the right side giving me room in the sleeve to pack a jacket and other items while easily pulling out the left strap for easy on the shoulder carry when needed. Itâs a great upgrade to a durable trustworthy pack line.
We received beat up, used luggage with missing backpack straps. If this is how Ospreyâs products fare in the warehouse, then itâs a poorly constructed bag. We couldâve begrudgingly overlooked the stains, pet fur, chunks of missing plastic, and large scuffs, but the missing straps disabled the bagâs best functionality. Our credit card has been charged for a replacement and we have to drive it to a FedEx location. Be warned that Backcountry lacks quality control and this responsibility will fall onto the customer.
I bought one for myself, loved the versatility and space. 6 months later bought one for my husband and he loves it.We have traveled around Europe and North America. The size for airplane carry on has never been an issue.Even on the puddle jumper flights. Now, getting 2 more for my sons' graduation presents.Pro tip- backpack straps can be secured outside the bag for slighlty mor room and discourage anyone trying to gsin quick access to your bag.
