For a womenâs specific pack, the shoulder straps are set super wide, and theyâre very stiff so they dig into my shoulders. I wore it for 5 mins trying it on and have to return it. I have the Osprey fairpoint 55L from 2013, but this was back before I knew anything about backpack fits, and the torso length is too long for me and digs into my lower back and hips. Other than that I love it. I was hoping to upgrade just to switch to a better fit my wow this model is such a miss in all ways!I already mentioned the awful shoulder straps shape and lack of comfort. Granted, I have a cat, but the material of the back attracts fur/point. The zippered protective back panel used to have Velcro to keep it stuffed, but now thereâs nothing to hold it in itâs stuff pocket, which opens to the bottom making it easy to slip out. The day pack opening is so small, compared to bc a regular 1/2 zip backpack, this is like a 1/4 zip. Makes it difficult to see inside and easily get things from the bottom of the bag. I attached a picture of the shoulder strap width. I have pretty broad shoulders and this is still too wide for me. I compared it to my Gregory daypack and the Osprey fairpoint from 2013 (which isnât womenâs specific) and this packâs straps are wider than both

I bought this to bring on a long trip, and my travel partner bought the Farpoint 40 (basically the men's model of this pack, without the removable day pack). Because I saw both actually side by side, I realized that the 40l Fairview (and Farpoint) has some exterior pockets and a laptop sleeve, whereas the 40l bag that comes as part of this set has only the one large main pocket (and two zip mesh pockets inside, which the separate 40l also has). As a result, I returned the set and bought the 40l and the daypack separately. They work exactly the same and the whole Fairview/Farpoint system is interchangeable, but I like having the additional organizational help, as even with packing cubes I tend to lose smaller objects in the cavernous main pocket. I especially like the idea of an easy access pocket on the front of the big bag that I can slip things in and out of, but it's still hidden behind the daypack that's strapped in front of it for a little extra protection. I didn't see this spelled out in any reviews, by Osprey themselves or anywhere else before buying, so I thought I'd say so here, just so people know the fullest picture of the options.

I have to say, I'm not fond of this bag. As a 5â4â 125 lb female who was gifted it for travel use, I found it bulky and awkward. And, maybe this isn't a problem for everyone, but it is for me; it looks dorky on. I will be returning it.The framing is too rigid for it to tuck away easily. You can't hide it under a restaurant seat or something if you stop on your way to/from the airport or train. It's always just there next to you, bulky and in the way. Also, I know that it is likely designed to fit this way for the best ergonomic support and less shoulder strain, but the top of the pack comes halfway up the back of my head. I spent time adjusting it, but to wear it âproperly,â this is how it sits. Even the picture on the website shows how high it goes up if you ... MoreI have to say, I'm not fond of this bag. I spent time adjusting it, but to wear it âproperly,â this is how it sits. Even the picture on the website shows how high it goes up if you look at it on the model. Not only does that feel awkward and bothersome, especially when sitting down, but I think it also looks unflattering. Also, on a practical note, this trait makes peripheral vision and looking upward awkward.Overall, it could be suitable for some people who don't mind an unattractive, rigid travel backpack companion, making its presence known everywhere. It is durable, has good storage and strap versatility, is well made, and very comfortable regarding muscle strain. However, I am willing to sacrifice a little comfort and ergonomic support for style and subtlety if necessary. If that's not you, it's probably an excellent choice for all the reasons I just listed, and you should get it. If you care about aesthetics, it is worth knowing the things I mentioned earlier. This bag gets excellent reviews on the internet, but nobody has made these points. They are disappointing enough for me not to want to use the bag so I thought people should know.

I used this bag for 3 months backpacking in Europe and it was fantastic. On flights I used the main bag as a carry on the and the smaller one as my personal item. It's technically a couple inches taller than a carry on bag allowance but I never had to check it (even on budget airlines), once as I was boarding a flight the boarding pass agent said "that bag is too tall" but he still didn't make me check it. It's so nice on a long trip to be able to fully open the bag instead of stuffing a backpacking bag. When walking around I usually wore the small bag strapped to the front of me because the weight was back heavy when it was clipped on to the larger one. Highly recommend packing cubes to keep everything in order. It would be great if the smaller bag had a better ... MoreI used this bag for 3 months backpacking in Europe and it was fantastic. Overall, I would highly recommend this bag for backpacking travel!
I did a lot of research regarding different backpacks and purposely waited for this upgraded design to come into stock so it would be cabin compliant for future use. Actually purchased the backpack for a two month interrail trip around Europe with my husband. It did not disappoint. The easy-open main sack along with separately purchased packing cubes was perfect for storing and finding clothes when frequently moving destinations. The daypack was more comfortable attached at the front than clipped to the back (I felt overweighted that way round) and provided plenty of room. The stowaway harness was brilliant for making sure straps and buckles did not get damaged. I found the main pack with the adjustable harness perfectly comfortable once Iâd made the right changes ... MoreI did a lot of research regarding different backpacks and purposely waited for this upgraded design to come into stock so it would be cabin compliant for future use. I found the main pack with the adjustable harness perfectly comfortable once Iâd made the right changes (Iâm quite petite and 5ft 4.) The day pack was also comfortable to carry on its own and the adjustable chest strap was great. Iâm so pleased with this purchase, it certainly helped make the trip more comfortable! My husband loves his too; just wish I could have had his colour đ. These backpacks are far superior to anything we ever carried in our youth. I wouldnât hesitate to recommend.
I bought the Osprey Fairview 40 for an upcoming month long trip to Italy. We'll be taking trains from place to place and I wanted a manageable travel backpack to supplement the small rolling bag I'll also have. I researched and tried on multiple bags. In the 40L'ish size range the Fairview has by far the the best suspension and hip belt of any bag I found. At 60+ comfort is my #1 consideration and I was shocked to find how almost no similar sized travel bags had a good enough hip belt to very comfortably transfer the weight off shoulders. The bags material and zippers seem quite sturdy and an array of handles will make carrying a breeze if I want to hold the bag rather than put it on my back. A pass through to drop the bag onto my rolling bags handle would have been ... MoreI bought the Osprey Fairview 40 for an upcoming month long trip to Italy. The bags material and zippers seem quite sturdy and an array of handles will make carrying a breeze if I want to hold the bag rather than put it on my back. A pass through to drop the bag onto my rolling bags handle would have been a nice touch but I'm using the nicely placed strap tighteners for that purpose and that seems to work OK. So, what's the "but" about? Outside zipper pockets!! Yes, there's an open outside pocket but it can't be closed. Come on Osprey, it would take so little to do much better. This is such a high quality bag but with no place to reasonably securely put things I want easy access to I can only give it three stars. Add two well placed and resonably sized outside zippered pockets and it would get five stars from me for sure. I'd still recomment the bag - again, best suspension out there - but with the concern about the lack of outside zippered pockets.
Good bag that is a staple of the one-bag travel world. Haven't traveled with it yet but have packed it up and can already tell some pros and cons: Pros: -clamshell opening and compression straps. They don't overcomplicate things. Use your cubes, squash it down, close the solid zippers -decent organization. With the main compartment, inside zippered spot, main outside pocket for tech, and little top compartment for quick grab items, its got you generally covered on organizing your stuff -good carry overall. Generally the structure and fit, with solid back, waist strap, and women-specialized fit seem to make it one of the more comfortable travel-focused bags out there. (See cons though) Cons: -the "water bottle holders" are really useless as such. You could stuff a snack or a bandana in there, but when the bag is packed out, no water bottle of mine would fit. Also, its basically on the very back of the bag, which means the water is impossible to reach while on, and add weight way far out from your back. -you have to undo all four compression straps to get to the main compartment. Good for security, bad for quick acces. -while the carry is better than most other travel-oriented bags, it still doesn't compare the comfort of a bag oriented towards backpacking. Its basically abig square--to comply with plane carry-on needs) but that makes it stick pretty far out from your back, and the heaviest items you might have (water, laptop) are all organized to be way out back rather than next to your back for a better carry experience. The bag was nicely packaged up, arrived on time, and was consistent with description.
I bought this right before leaving for a 2 month trip through Europe. I previously used a North face duffel backpack for traveling but wanted something with more support. It does distribute weight very well and has allowed me to carry 20-30 lbs with relative ease, even up steep hills or stairs. But it's so uncomfortable! I think there's something with the structure or rigidity that doesn't work with my anatomy, maybe because I have mild scoliosis. It hits my shoulder blades in a way that's super painful, even if a lot of pressure is taken off my shoulders. I could only handle wearing it for an hour or two max, where I would hit my limit with the pain.I'm also not a fan of the shape. It's very awkward and makes me feel like a turtle. I need a carry on size bag for a trip I was taking and the one I has wasn't durable enough. So after some research I was looking at getting the 55L Fairview (which is just a combo of a 40L and 15L together). But I read the review that the 40L had more features than the one that comes in the combo so got that instead and purchased the 15L separately, too. It was such a great investment! The bag was the perfect size for overhead compartment (and the smaller bag fits under the seat nicely). I was able to pack everything for my adventure. The plus side was the ease of carrying both bags around. You can attach the 15L to the back or it has clips so it can hang in front of you - I did the latter mostly. My friends would have to take everything out of their top load bags, but I could just flip mine open and find what I needed, while leaving the rest in place.
Good sized, convenient bag for city breaks and train travel between cities.Loved: Cabin compliant size, attached day pack handy, can fit two weeks clothes in (just), clamshell opening, the big bag is comfortable for womenâs sizing with shorter back. These mean it will be my go-to bag for holidays.Did not like: daypack chest strap and strap buckles not the right size or shape for womenâs chest (caused blisters on inner arms - not adjustable enough to prevent this), daypack has a loose toggle closure for inner pocket rather than husbandâs Farpoint daypack which has a far more secure clip buckle, webbing on daypack ripped on day 2 with normal use.
