For a women’s specific pack, the shoulder straps are set super wide, and they’re very stiff so they dig into my shoulders. I wore it for 5 mins trying it on and have to return it. I have the Osprey fairpoint 55L from 2013, but this was back before I knew anything about backpack fits, and the torso length is too long for me and digs into my lower back and hips. Other than that I love it. I was hoping to upgrade just to switch to a better fit my wow this model is such a miss in all ways!I already mentioned the awful shoulder straps shape and lack of comfort. The zippered protective back panel used to have Velcro to keep it stuffed, but now there’s nothing to hold it in it’s stuff pocket, which opens to the bottom making it easy to slip out. The day pack opening is so small, compared to bc a regular 1/2 zip backpack, this is like a 1/4 zip. Makes it difficult to see inside and easily get things from the bottom of the bag. I attached a picture of the shoulder strap width. I have pretty broad shoulders and this is still too wide for me. I compared it to my Gregory daypack and the Osprey fairpoint from 2013 (which isn’t women’s specific) and this pack’s straps are wider than both

I bought this to bring on a long trip, and my travel partner bought the Farpoint 40 (basically the men's model of this pack, without the removable day pack). Because I saw both actually side by side, I realized that the 40l Fairview (and Farpoint) has some exterior pockets and a laptop sleeve, whereas the 40l bag that comes as part of this set has only the one large main pocket (and two zip mesh pockets inside, which the separate 40l also has). As a result, I returned the set and bought the 40l and the daypack separately. They work exactly the same and the whole Fairview/Farpoint system is interchangeable, but I like having the additional organizational help, as even with packing cubes I tend to lose smaller objects in the cavernous main pocket. I especially like the idea of an easy access pocket on the front of the big bag that I can slip things in and out of, but it's still hidden behind the daypack that's strapped in front of it for a little extra protection. I didn't see this spelled out in any reviews, by Osprey themselves or anywhere else before buying, so I thought I'd say so here, just so people know the fullest picture of the options.

Comfortable and roomy rucksack
6 July 2024

Spent a long time reading reviews before I bought the Fairview 55 rucksack but need not have hesitated. The quality is excellent, as I would expect from previous experience of Osprey luggage. The hip strap keeps the weight comfortably off my shoulders, and I can easily fit all I need for a long trip in the main rucksack. The day sack is ideal for a laptop and other things I want easily to hand, and the system to clip it to the front of the straps of the main pack distributes the weight really well.

I’m a woman 120 pounds ,5’3”…and this was not a good fit for my size. I went to Europe for two weeks and used the system and was miserable. I put it through its paces too… Used every feature it offered. if I was a big strapping young man, sure it would be awesome, but not for a small person ! I had to pack a variety of climate clothes which created bulk and weight …if you are just going someplace warm and sunny it might be OK. It’s pushing it as far as carry-on, but I did carry it on a number of flights and finally checked it on my third flight… just could not manage it anymore. It’s just too big for a woman who is on the slighter side. I wish I had consulted REI because they would not have steered me towards that pack. I returned it and ordered the Sojourn 44. Great & efficient pack system!

This is great for car travel, train travel, and plane travel. I've found that you really have to fill out all of the dead space for the smaller daypack to look snug against the larger pack, but even if you don't pack every square inch of the main pack, the daypack still stays attached as long as you tighten the straps. I use this for all kinds of travel and on the plane, it's my go-to carry on for when I'm not checking a bag. The bag is comfortable to carry on my hips/back as if it were a backpacking pack. The two handles make lifting the bag into the car trunk or the overhead storage bins on the plane a breeze. It is more cumbersome to carry the bag using the handle across the airport terminal, so I go with carrying it like a backpacking pack til I'm ready to take ... MoreThis is great for car travel, train travel, and plane travel. But it does fit those mini luggage carts at some of the hotels quite well. I really like how it has an integrated, removeable daypack, opens like a traditional suitcase once the daypack is removed, yet the unit is made to be carried like a backpacking pack. The pockets on the daypack are an asset. Small gear loops on the daypack and an integrated raincover for both packs would be nice to have.

Great travel bag

I bought this bag back in 2017, meaning I've been using it for the past 5 years. Granted, during quarantine I was not using it at all, but I've brought this bag on 4 week long backpacking trips around the UK, a 2 week trip to Japan and just week trips to Mexico, everywhere. I love the detachable day pack, such a great detail about this bag tbh. I've never checked in bag since buying this one. The main bag fits perfectly in the overhead bins and I've never been stopped by any of the workers for it being too big. The day pack acts as my personal item and I board easily. I was only stopped once when coming back from Mexico for not being allowed to have 2 bags so I simply put the stuff in the day pack into the main bag and attached it. The workers were definitely not happy lol because they wanted that money, but the looks on their faces was hilarious because they were not expecting that. All this to say, this bag is a great investment if you travel a lot and don't check in bags. Originally, I was between this and the duffel because I wasn't sure if this was allowed as a carry on but I'm glad I went with this because there's more space and walking around for hours with a backpack is a lot more comfortable than walking around with a duffel. Also, the zipper on the front of the main bag that allows for you to view everything inside is great. No more digging around backpacks and dumping everything out.

Question: Difference between Osprey Fairview 55L Backpack vs Osprey Fairview 40L Backpack
17 October 2023

Hello, what is difference between Osprey Fairview 55L Backpack vs. Osprey Fairview 40L Backpack? Is it only about Fairview 55L contains additional Farpoint® | Fairview® Travel Daypack?Main question is if Fairview 55L is the same as Fairview 40L? The same size and everything if it's the same but only there is additional 15L backpack Farpoint® | Fairview® Travel Daypack? So that's together 55L OR Fairview 55L is separately 55L and it's totally different backpack and bigger?Let me please know and thank you in advanced.

Spacious, well made and comfortable to wear
5 June 2024

I've used this pack for a 3- night work trip on a train. The large pack had more than enough space for my needs and the compression straps worked well to make it small to fit the load. I put my laptop in the small pack and wore it on my front instead of attaching to the back of the pack - much easier when dealing with luggage on the train than having to detach. The small pack worked well to take to the office during the day. Well made, nice colour. I would recommend!

wanted to love it

In Dec 2023, we bought three of these packs for a trip to England where we were travelling by train, subway, and plane exclusively, so lots of walking from stations to hotels. I really wanted to love this setup, as I have an Osprey Aura 65 backpack that fits like a glove and am pleased with the brand. However, in practice, all three of us found the backpack to be unwieldy especially with the daypack attached. The hipbelts are not sufficient so shoulders bear the full pack weight. After the first morning, we resorted to carrying the big pack duffel-style by the side handle, while wearing the daypack. This totally negated the whole hands-free purpose of this setup.Dislikes:1. hipbelt is inadequate.
