For a womenâs specific pack, the shoulder straps are set super wide, and theyâre very stiff so they dig into my shoulders. I wore it for 5 mins trying it on and have to return it. I have the Osprey fairpoint 55L from 2013, but this was back before I knew anything about backpack fits, and the torso length is too long for me and digs into my lower back and hips. Other than that I love it. I was hoping to upgrade just to switch to a better fit my wow this model is such a miss in all ways!I already mentioned the awful shoulder straps shape and lack of comfort. The day pack does not zipper on like the old models did, itâs just held on by the compression straps. I tried it on for 5 mins and it was covered in lint/fur. Granted, I have a cat, but the material of the back attracts fur/point. The zippered protective back panel used to have Velcro to keep it stuffed, but now thereâs nothing to hold it in itâs stuff pocket, which opens to the bottom making it easy to slip out. The day pack opening is so small, compared to bc a regular 1/2 zip backpack, this is like a 1/4 zip. Makes it difficult to see inside and easily get things from the bottom of the bag. I attached a picture of the shoulder strap width. I have pretty broad shoulders and this is still too wide for me. I compared it to my Gregory daypack and the Osprey fairpoint from 2013 (which isnât womenâs specific) and this packâs straps are wider than both

I have to say, I'm not fond of this bag. As a 5â4â 125 lb female who was gifted it for travel use, I found it bulky and awkward. And, maybe this isn't a problem for everyone, but it is for me; it looks dorky on. I will be returning it.The framing is too rigid for it to tuck away easily. You can't hide it under a restaurant seat or something if you stop on your way to/from the airport or train. It's always just there next to you, bulky and in the way. Also, I know that it is likely designed to fit this way for the best ergonomic support and less shoulder strain, but the top of the pack comes halfway up the back of my head. I spent time adjusting it, but to wear it âproperly,â this is how it sits. Even the picture on the website shows how high it goes up if you ... MoreI have to say, I'm not fond of this bag. Not only does that feel awkward and bothersome, especially when sitting down, but I think it also looks unflattering. Also, on a practical note, this trait makes peripheral vision and looking upward awkward.Overall, it could be suitable for some people who don't mind an unattractive, rigid travel backpack companion, making its presence known everywhere. It is durable, has good storage and strap versatility, is well made, and very comfortable regarding muscle strain. However, I am willing to sacrifice a little comfort and ergonomic support for style and subtlety if necessary. If that's not you, it's probably an excellent choice for all the reasons I just listed, and you should get it. If you care about aesthetics, it is worth knowing the things I mentioned earlier. This bag gets excellent reviews on the internet, but nobody has made these points. They are disappointing enough for me not to want to use the bag so I thought people should know.

I did a lot of research regarding different backpacks and purposely waited for this upgraded design to come into stock so it would be cabin compliant for future use. Actually purchased the backpack for a two month interrail trip around Europe with my husband. It did not disappoint. The easy-open main sack along with separately purchased packing cubes was perfect for storing and finding clothes when frequently moving destinations. The daypack was more comfortable attached at the front than clipped to the back (I felt overweighted that way round) and provided plenty of room. The stowaway harness was brilliant for making sure straps and buckles did not get damaged. I found the main pack with the adjustable harness perfectly comfortable once Iâd made the right changes ... MoreI did a lot of research regarding different backpacks and purposely waited for this upgraded design to come into stock so it would be cabin compliant for future use. The day pack was also comfortable to carry on its own and the adjustable chest strap was great. Iâm so pleased with this purchase, it certainly helped make the trip more comfortable! My husband loves his too; just wish I could have had his colour đ. These backpacks are far superior to anything we ever carried in our youth. I wouldnât hesitate to recommend.

I took this bag on a months long trip around Europe: lots of waking as well as plane, train, and bus travel. The main bag is great, but the daypack not so much.. ----MAIN BAG: Starting with the main bag, the harness system has a lot of adjustment, which means it can take some time to get dialed in, but once fitting well it was secure and comfortable. Day long hikes with 25+ pounds were not an issue thanks to the well designed load lifters and hip belt. If you are looking for a pack of this size, you DEFINITELY want a hip belt and load lifters, ignore any pack that skips these features, it will hurt your shoulders after 20 minutes. If you are looking for a pack of this size, you DEFINITELY want a hip belt and load lifters, ignore any pack that skips these features, it will hurt your shoulders after 20 minutes. The flap that zips over the straps was handy a few times when I had to check the bag, and the pocket it folds into is big enough to also store a rain cover for wet days. The handles are nice and padded, but I wish there were more on other sides of the bag. Organization is another weak point of the bag - there is minimal internal organization, so I would recommend compression sacks or packing cubes to keep small things from getting lost, and there are no external pockets to speak of. In a future revision I hope they add features like the laptop sleeve and water bottle pockets of the 40L version to this one. Overall the zippers, fabric, and buckles seem durable with minimal signs of wear after a few months of use. ----DAYPACK: Having a daypack that seamlessly integrates with a larger bag is a good idea, but imo this is a very poor execution. The farpoint daypack is too small to be useful for what I like to carry. The bag only opens at the top, which means it is very difficult to get to things at the bottom, and the external pockets cannot be used if the main compartment is full. The shoulder straps are too narrow on my smaller than average (male) frame, and will likely be worse for anyone with a larger torso. I assume all of these decisions are to help it integrate with the main pack, but it is way too big of a compromise in my opinion. Apologies to the designers, but if you want to carry more than a jacket, a water bottle, and some snacks it's hard to think of a single positive thing to say about this daypack. ----TLDR: The main pack is good, but the daypack is next to useless for me, so I would recommend saving your money and going with the 40L version of the Farpoint/Fairview if you want a travel bag from Osprey.
Pros:Main compartment is roomy with 2 compression straps. I broke my ankle and was able to fit a spare ankle boot in it for a 2-week trip to Europe in addition to all necessities.Front compartment held my 16" laptop, kindle or iPad, book, and other knick-knacks no problem. The slash pocket at the top is perfect for sunglasses and quick-access items like chargers and headphones.2 external compression straps really cinch things down and keep it compact. Tucking the backpack straps away and zipping is easy and makes storing so convenient. One of my favorite features is the duffel strap. I either carried or clipped it on.- the laptop on the front instead of against your back made packing the bag a little quirky. I think they fixed this in the new model though.- I don't think I got the right size, which made the fit feel a little tight. They may have gone to O/S for future models -- but make sure you get the right fit- because it's just one pack, you have to store it overhead. So if you want to use items mid-transit, you either need a small bag under the seat too or else getting settled or ready to go can get a little complex.Overall, I love this pack. For the last "con" above, though, I opted for the Farpoint 55. This allows me to store the 40L pack overhead and have a quick access day-pack for whatever I need in-transit.
I bought the Osprey Fairview 40 for an upcoming month long trip to Italy. We'll be taking trains from place to place and I wanted a manageable travel backpack to supplement the small rolling bag I'll also have. I researched and tried on multiple bags. In the 40L'ish size range the Fairview has by far the the best suspension and hip belt of any bag I found. At 60+ comfort is my #1 consideration and I was shocked to find how almost no similar sized travel bags had a good enough hip belt to very comfortably transfer the weight off shoulders. The bags material and zippers seem quite sturdy and an array of handles will make carrying a breeze if I want to hold the bag rather than put it on my back. A pass through to drop the bag onto my rolling bags handle would have been ... MoreI bought the Osprey Fairview 40 for an upcoming month long trip to Italy. The bags material and zippers seem quite sturdy and an array of handles will make carrying a breeze if I want to hold the bag rather than put it on my back. A pass through to drop the bag onto my rolling bags handle would have been a nice touch but I'm using the nicely placed strap tighteners for that purpose and that seems to work OK. So, what's the "but" about? Outside zipper pockets!! Yes, there's an open outside pocket but it can't be closed. Come on Osprey, it would take so little to do much better. This is such a high quality bag but with no place to reasonably securely put things I want easy access to I can only give it three stars. Add two well placed and resonably sized outside zippered pockets and it would get five stars from me for sure. I'd still recomment the bag - again, best suspension out there - but with the concern about the lack of outside zippered pockets.
Good bag that is a staple of the one-bag travel world. Haven't traveled with it yet but have packed it up and can already tell some pros and cons: Pros: -clamshell opening and compression straps. They don't overcomplicate things. Use your cubes, squash it down, close the solid zippers -decent organization. With the main compartment, inside zippered spot, main outside pocket for tech, and little top compartment for quick grab items, its got you generally covered on organizing your stuff -good carry overall. Generally the structure and fit, with solid back, waist strap, and women-specialized fit seem to make it one of the more comfortable travel-focused bags out there. (See cons though) Cons: -the "water bottle holders" are really useless as such. You could stuff a snack or a bandana in there, but when the bag is packed out, no water bottle of mine would fit. Also, its basically on the very back of the bag, which means the water is impossible to reach while on, and add weight way far out from your back. -you have to undo all four compression straps to get to the main compartment. Good for security, bad for quick acces. -while the carry is better than most other travel-oriented bags, it still doesn't compare the comfort of a bag oriented towards backpacking. Its basically abig square--to comply with plane carry-on needs) but that makes it stick pretty far out from your back, and the heaviest items you might have (water, laptop) are all organized to be way out back rather than next to your back for a better carry experience. The bag was nicely packaged up, arrived on time, and was consistent with description.
Purchased Farpoint 55 for me and Faipoint 55 for the wife in summer 2022. We have taken trips to Alaska (multi city), Barbados, Hawaii (multi island), Viet Nam (multi city), Costa Rica (multi city), and Iceland (multi AirBnB). We are able to pack all we need in these bags and do carry on. So we are able to clear the airport quickly bypassing baggage claim. We had just returned from a Hawaii trip where we had checked our bags and a coworker described these bags to me. Found the bags locally and presented the idea to my wife. She looked at me in disbelief. But then she pulled the stuff out of her Hawaii check bag and placed only the stuff she actually used on the trip into her bag. She had room to spare in the new bag. So we have "gone for it" and now use these bags for all our trips (Except if we are doing a car trip for a weekend, we are sloppy and use the old bags bringing more junk than we need or use!). My loaded bags run about 35 lbs and my wife (with laptop) runs about 28 lbs. Big bags go in the over head - small bags go under the seat on the airplane. Sometimes we double the bags. Sometimes we have the big bags on our backs and carry the small bags. Sometimes we have the big bag on bag and use the clips to put small bag on the front/belly. A lot of versatility if you are willing to carry instead of roll your luggage. We can move agilely through airports and train stations.
Good sized, convenient bag for city breaks and train travel between cities.Loved: Cabin compliant size, attached day pack handy, can fit two weeks clothes in (just), clamshell opening, the big bag is comfortable for womenâs sizing with shorter back. I did lots of research and chose this pack for the capacity and the fact that it is sized for women with smaller torsos and narrower shoulders than the average man. I like all of these things and the pack is very comfy in those regards. We are going to Patagonia and also on an Antarctica cruise. I will have high quality heavy camera gear so I bought this pack so I can trek around Patagonia or go see penguins on the ice with all my gear. However I am amazed and disappointed that the waist straps are so short, that they won't reach if I have some warmer clothing layers or a parka on. I will need warm clothes where i am going. I can only do the waist strap up with summer clothes and a light jacket. I am not skinny but not particularly fat either and rather petit. These straps were not a fluke as we checked others in the store. I reached out to Osprey with the "Almighty Warranty" (NOT) and they are not shipping to Canada at this time or doing warranty work (WHAT??) So it was on my time and my dime to try and cobble up some longer straps for a $200+ dollar back pack. So unless you never plan to go where you need some layered clothes and a warm jacket, or are as skinny as a rake, beware of those waist straps. Very disappointed in this as the cost to make them a couple inches longer would be minimal or non existent and it wouldn't affect the function of the pack at all if they were pulled tighter on a person. I paid a premium for this back pack and it has a major fixable flaw in the design.
