I have gotten a TON of use out of this pack over the last couple years and I feel like I put it through its paces. I'm a biology student that does field work, I've used this pack as my school bag for the last two years, it's my go-to all weather day hiking pack, my go to foraging pack (I cram a small basket in the bottom to hold more fragile stuff i've picked), and last summer I used it to hike the grand canyon rim-to-rim in a day. In terms of capacity it's perfect for carrying everything you need for a long day of hiking, laptop and books, and anything else like that. I carried a 3L reservoir, food, first aid, socks, and other accessories on the grand canyon hike with room to spare and I never had a sore spot or felt like I was squeezing things in. The way the pack mounts off of your back is awesome especially if you hike in hot weather, wouldn't go back to any other design after that! Now the downside- that small zip pocket in the front- it's convenient because it gives you the ability to separate quick-grab small stuff from the rest of your pack but the photo on the website is SUPER misleading. Anything with any amount of weight placed in that pocket (keys, wallet, sunglass case, snacks, etc) will make that pocket sag down into the pack, and because its not stitched all the way around on the inside, it just kind of hangs inside the pack and gets in the way every time you try to put something back in the main body of the pack. If I have keys in the small pocket for example, the pocket will catch on my laptop every time I try to put it back in the pack. Is it a dealbreaker? No, but if you plan to use this pack a lot it will probably annoy you too. I would still recommend this pack but Osprey might want to take that part of the design back to the drawing board.

First off, I am not a person that normally reviews a product, but was blown away by this packs performance. Traveling extensively over that last 30 years, this is the first pack I have used as a carry-on and daypack on vacation that has not left my back a sweaty mess. If you have problems with sweating through your shirts, or having a hot back because of your backpack, this is the one to buy!We went to Africa, Europe, and Iceland with this pack, not once did I sweat through because of the pack. The mesh suspension kept me cool, provided phenomenal support no matter what we stuffed in there, and held everything we could shove in there with no problems. The side mesh pockets easily hold water bottles (32 oz Nalgene fits perfect), or anything else you need handy. The large pocket on the outside is really handy for coats, headphones, anything wet, or anything you can think of to put in it. Interior section is large and will hold a large amount of gear, the bladder pocket can double as a hideaway for documents, passports, money or anything else you want tucked away. The only thing I would change would be to make the top pocket a little bigger. You can put a cell phone, battery, keys, wallet, and some small items, but I like to put a little more than it can hold into it. To top it all off, a pack cover is included to keep the pack dry when you get more than a small drizzle while you are walking around. If you were on the fence about this pack, or are looking for a pack that won't make you sweat through your shirt, no matter how hot it is, buy this one!

I'm really happy with my purchase because this backpack fit my needs for traveling! At first I was hesitant to get this backpack because it was just 1 large pouch with 1 small open pouch and 1 small zipper pouch. Most travel bags have 3 different pouches and a bunch of pockets to organize your stuff. So I was worried that just throwing all my stuff into one big pouch would make it difficult for me to stay organized but I just used travel pouches to keep certain items together. I was so happy with how much stuff I could fit into this 27L bag! I used to travel with a 22L bag and wanted to upgrade my pack so I could fit more stuff with me. I also really liked how rigid the frame of the backpack is and it will stand up on its own without any items in it. The two outer ... I also really liked how rigid the frame of the backpack is and it will stand up on its own without any items in it. The two outer pockets for water bottles are HUGE, which I absolutely just love. I usually carry a 32 oz hydro flask with me and would always throw it in my backpack which would take up a good amount of space. But with this pack I can place it in a side pocket and save room. I also like that there's a secure strap to the side of the pouch so I don't have to just rely on the elastic of the pocket to keep my hydro flask locked in.The biggest con to me as another review mentioned is the amount of pilling due to the air vent. I loved the idea of the air vent and did feel that it kept my back cool. However whenever I wear any cotton shirts or jackets, the air vent will pick up blobs of cotton. I ultimately decided to keep this bag because I loved how much it could carry and how comfortable it was, but I did notice that I had to be more careful about what clothing I wear with my pack because I'm worried about the pilling.

Purchased during a recent sale, I just used the pack for the first time yesterday. Nice size and weight, comfortable to carry, ventilation was just right. I've been using a Stratos 24 from three generations ago, which I absolutely love, but it's just a tad heavy for the day hikes I do in the PNW forests and coastlines. The Hikelight 26 is a very nice alternative, but it's missing the two features of my old Stratos that will keep the Hikelight from being a full replacement:1) The upper compression strap capture for hiking poles/tools does not actually hold the pole and I had issues with the poles sliding down while I hiked and almost slipping out when I took the pack off. I don't understand why the usual bungee cord keepers that almost all other hiking packs have ... MorePurchased during a recent sale, I just used the pack for the first time yesterday. I don't understand why the usual bungee cord keepers that almost all other hiking packs have weren't added.2) The front shove-it pocket is the same material as the rest of the pack, which makes is less useful and secure as it could be. This pocket was one of the most important features I was looking for, but it simply doesn't work as well as it could. Sure, I stuffed a soft-shell vest in the pocket, but I couldn't do that with my water bottle (a 21oz hydroflask) in the pocket too, or anything else, whereas the stretchy pocket on my older Stratos holds the vest, the water bottle, my windbreaker, and a micro-towel without being overloaded. So, overall, a very nice pack that is comfortable and light, with excellent ventilation, but just short of perfect for me.
I originally got this pack with the intent of shoving it through a dry hatch and taking it some combination of kayaking/hiking/camping. I have yet to implement my grand plans, but I have taken this pack hiking on several occasions and used it as my only bag (carry on) on a week long work-related trip. It's astonishing how much you can cram in this pack.On top of that, it's reasonably comfortable, and the waist strap is long enough for those with less-than-flat stomachs. The shoulder straps are wide enough and constructed well enough not to dig in even with a decent amount of weight in the pack, and the way it lies on the back is comfortable.I'd say this is a reasonably good pack for an average or slightly above average sized human and has enough space for a week ... My fiancee, who is a foot shorter than me, finds it a bit too tall though and says it digs into her lower back a bit, so maybe miss this one if you're fairly short. Also, I'm a little on the heavy side and am not exactly of narrow build, but were I much heavier, the waist strap would be too short to use.
This pack is great overall, it is comfortable, lightweight, and well made, no doubt! I really wanted to love this bag, I really did! But it has a serious and basic water bottle issue! The mesh elastic pouches on either side of the exterior of the bag do not securely hold a standard water bottle. I have tried several including a standard 32 oz Nalgene bottle. The issue is that the pockets are not deep enough and do not have enough tightness in the elastic around the upper lip of the pouch to hold the bottle. As a result, the bottles fall out anytime the bag is laid on its side or back. There are compression straps over the side pouches and you might think properly tightened these will secure the bottles but they don't, they seem to be set too low to actually make a ... If you are never gonna use these pouches for a water bottle, then this may be the bag for you. But if you want easy access to water bottles stored securely in the side mesh pouch and you don't want to worry they are gonna fall out and roll down the hillside, mountainside, off the cliff, or down the street then don't get this bag you will be disappointed.
I've had this backpack for about a year now. For context, I bought this bag specifically for day hiking and I've used it on 4 day hikes. It has been a great bag so far. It's an Osprey bag so you know you're getting an amazing bag.Pros: 1. I use a bite valve/bladder system on day hikes and it works very well for this. It has a sleeve to put the bladder in, a clip for tube management, and a strap to hold it in place on the shoulder strap.2. It keeps my back very cool with the mesh backing and frame. This keeps it off my back and allows air to circulate.Con: Loses 1 star because the waist strap is very thin, and it doesn't have waist strap pouches. I bought an REI pouch and ran it across the chest strap to deal with it but it's not an ideal fix. once I unclip, the pouch swings around and can slide off the end of the strap if I don't have it cinched tight enough. Since the waist strap is so thin, it gets a little uncomfortable by the end of the day. A wider, padded strap is preferable in my situation. I would not recommend it for longer day hikes because of this. However, it's a great bag if you just need a day pack and don't mind the waist strap.
I was looking for a smallish day pack for carrying my small camera bag, a waterproof, water, picnic etc. and my local outdoor shop advised I tried this Osprey. Wow. It's so lightweight and with the waist and chest straps it's so easy to get comfortable. Plenty of room inside for all I need, plus the two external side pockets and a nice wide rear pocket with compression straps. Ideal for my camera trips and hill climbing for a day. The comfort is amazing, the back support and rear breathable mesh are simple excellent and it's such a well made bag. Love it. Roll on summer!!
I am sublimating my COVID cabin fever by loading up on gear. This pack caught my eye locally, but they did not have the gray/yellow combo I wanted; giving me the opportunity to patronize Backcountry as I would always prefer to do, Here's what I like about this pack: First, the Airspeed suspension is the best in class for keeping your back cool. Second, I like the rigid frame of this pack, so it doesn't collapse on itself if not completely full. Third, the "size" fits on my back perfectly = not too big and not too small. Fourth, as another poster below noted, this pack holds a lot for its 26L stated size. Fifth, while some people might wish the front "shove it" pocket was mesh, I am not a mesh fan, so I like this version just the way it is. Finally, the top pocket ... People can grouse they wished it had pocket(s) on the waist belt, or a more robust bungee on the water bottle side pockets; but Hey! at $100 this is a feature-laden bargain! One final note: The pictures really don't do justice to all the nice colors of this pack. The blue is rich blue, the orange is bright safety orange and the black is a rich black with gray trim = all very nice. I just happen to like yellow, so the yellow trim on the gray model appeals to me. The interior on mine is also bright yellow, so I can see down to the bottom of the main compartment. I am delighted and think you would be too.
My wife bought me this as a gift for Christmas and I think it is quite possibly the worst small rucksack I have ever had. The biggest problem is the side pockets are low, gaping and the elastic is not tight enough, I have tried mutiple bottle sizes from 500ml to 1.5 litre, short and wide, tall and slim, but none of them stay secure. On my last walk a bottle slipped out as I climbed a style and it hit my Dad in the face who was just behing me. The single front pocket has an extremely thin liner and nothing much inside it, so everything gets jumbled up. The structure at the rear of the bag that is supposed to stop you getting too sweaty isn't very effective. The last small rucksack I had was really a lot cheaper and it was actually way better.
