Renn 65 features a highly-adjustable ventilated backsystem, utilising AirSpeed suspended mesh over a large airflow cavity. This allows the body to sink into the hipbelt and lumbar area of the pack, greatly enhancing overall comfort and providing a very stable and supportive load-carry. The torso length adjustment is very intuitive, utilising an innovative ladder-lock system. Renn 65 can be quickly and easily adjusted to fit perfectly. To fit a wider variety of torso-lengths, these packs come complete with dual load-lifter points on the upper frame, ensuring that the harness will remain comfortable in whichever position it's placed. A large, highly padded hipbelt provides a very comfortable fit and aids in carrying heavier loads in the pack. Renn also features a women's specific backsystem design.Renn features all of the essentials for multi-day backpacking trips; a large capacity with upper lid and lower sleeping-bag compartment access points. An internal divider provides a separated lower compartment which can be unfastened when not in use. Multiple compression straps allow the pack to remain stable, while not interfering with the mesh water-bottle pockets. Dual hipbelt pockets and a large top-lid pocket with key-clip provide easy access to smaller equipment.Should you feel the need, Renn is compatible with Osprey's Daylite daypacks, allowing you to attach the smaller pack onto the bigger pack, expanding the capacity and providing an option for when you leave your big pack at the camp and take a shorter trip with your daypack.

I've used this backpack on several multi-night treks in various conditions and am generally happy with it. I'm 5'6" 150 lbs and find it comfy with up to 35 lbs which meets my needs for multi-night trip sharing gear with others. It's super durable and roomy and water bladders fit great in the bottom zippered area.HOWEVER! I find it really annoying that it doesn't have a few more pockets / organizers. It has a zip pocket on the top, and as others have noticed all your stuff will fall out if the zip is open and the pack is upright. I really wish it had a few more easy-access pockets for essentials I want during the day without having to unpack the whole thing. It also doesn't stand up when full, just has to lie on its front, which is fine but also kind of ... MoreI've used this backpack on several multi-night treks in various conditions and am generally happy with it. I got this as my first pack ever, on my first 12 day backpacking trip. Obviously the quality was great, being an osprey. It just was not comfortable for me. I wasn't able to get fitted since all stores were closed (because covid). So this being an adjustable pack, I took my chances. The mesh back panel creates space between the pack and your back, which is theoretically nice for airflow, but created an odd feeling weight distribution where the weight was pulling me backwards and causing lots of friction (leaving a huge welt on my collar bone) on the front of my shoulders. When the pack is adjusted to the tallest setting, that leaves no space for the suspension straps to be in the correct 45 degree angle position. They were level to the top of the shoulder, making ... MoreI got this as my first pack ever, on my first 12 day backpacking trip. Obviously the quality was great, being an osprey. They were level to the top of the shoulder, making them ineffective. Maybe my torso was just too long for this particular pack (it's possible I measured myself incorrectly) but I just couldn't adjust it enough to feel right. I switched to my friends ULA Circuit pack about halfway through the trip and never looked back! I was just SO much more comfortable with the weight close to my body rather that floating behind me.For reference, I am 5'7" 150 lb. Broad shoulders and hips and large chested. Torso is 20" I believe. One more thing, it would be great if there was at least a mesh pocket on the back of the bag. There are loops to attach elastic lashing cord to...but no lashing cord. The hip belt was very comfortable, the water bottle access pretty good and the attached rain cover came in handy. Really wish this had worked for me.

Fine pack - no more, no less
24 January 2023

This was my very first pack as well as the first piece of backpacking gear I ever bought. It has served me well and I'm glad I got so lucky with it. That being said...I carried it most notably on a 7-day trip in the with a 15 pound base weight plus 8 days of food; and I feel like it carried up to 35 pounds really well. I've never been able to dial it in for 100% comfort but I can imagine a lot worse conditions. The fabric is rough and I'm often adjusting the chest strap whenever I'm use the load lifters. The brain is attached straight to the frame without adjustable straps. If the pack is full up to the drawstring, it's nearly impossible to fill the brain to capacity because it gets weird and scrunched. It wouldn't be as big of a bummer if the hip belt pockets ... MoreThis was my very first pack as well as the first piece of backpacking gear I ever bought. It has served me well and I'm glad I got so lucky with it. If the pack is full up to the drawstring, it's nearly impossible to fill the brain to capacity because it gets weird and scrunched. It wouldn't be as big of a bummer if the hip belt pockets were better. The hip belt pockets are small and attached very closely to where the frame and hip belt meet which makes it hard to fill them to capacity. My iPhone 14, for example, doesn't fit. The zippers are next to impossible to use with one hand, so I just don't really use the hip belt pockets. Which wouldn't be as big of an issue if the pack wasn't so heavy.Over 3 pounds to include a brain and hip belt pockets that I can't fully use. Makes me sad.The curve in the frame is great for ventilation but I feel like it takes away from the internal capacity since you can't straighten it out at any point. It also makes using a water bladder tricky depending on your gear. The sleeping pad straps; the load lifters; and the dual-opening/angled side pockets that I wish were standard on every pack are my favorite features.Overall it's a good minimalist pack at a great price if you can get all of your gear to fit; but it's 2 pounds too heavy for me to settle for such bad hip belt pockets and zero water resistance.(5'7" female; 36-29-43 measurements; 18" torso)

I would highly recommend this!

I've used this to train with 35lb water sack on multiple day hikes and 2 day summit trip to Mt. Rainier. This pack can hold more weight, and highly adjustable. I'm 5'1", 103lb very petite person, and I was able to have the torso adjusted to the shortest and the hip straps tight all the way to fit my short torso well. The floating divisor is easier and allows for more flexible storage, which I loved. I was able to fit a heavy duty sleeping bag and stuff the small empty areas with my snacks and dry socks, day gloves. Also for the panel cord loops I ended up buying elastic shock cords and cord locks for holding my ice axe, crampons, and my helmet. Detachability would've been nice.

It could be so much better

There are great things about the bag, however it could be so much better. First I'm 5'8" 145 llbs, hip belt was extremely uncomfortable, and I was at the top of the height adjustment, if you are taller find another pack. Only 2 day hike with 37llbs of gear and my shoulders and hips are wrecked. The placement of the hydro bladder make it impossible to refill on the fly; also very difficult to insert the hose. In the end I ditched using the bladder. Nice pockets for large water bottles, but you can not remove and replace while hiking. It would have been nice if maybe there was a spot to clip water bottle to. I put on belt, but it wasn't ideal. Side pockets on hip belt fantastic! They fit plenty. Top hood should be adjustable, if you have it loaded and need into interior of pack you have to unload the top so you can close again, super inconvenient. My sleeping bag is bulkier than I like, I tried to make as small as I could with compression sack and fit into interior of bag which took up half bag, but my tent with rain fly and floor fit great into bottom area where most would put sleeping bag and made packing up really fast.I love the color, the capacity, the durability/ruggedness, the price point. Just seems it was so easy to have been so much better.

Ouch! Not for me.
28 September 2021

I was excited for this pack, but after using it for a weekend backpacking trip, I am returning it. The shoulder straps are very painful, bruised my clavicles, and made it difficult for me to take heavier breaths as I was hiking. The waist belt bruised my hips. And the hard bottom of the frame also dug into the back of my hips. Overall, the pack was extremely uncomfortable for me. My boyfriend traded packs with me on the hike back out and he agreed that it was very uncomfortable. The top storage compartment is not very convenient either. Some of my items kept falling out when I would stop to open the pack and get something out/put something back in. While I could tell that there was a little more air flow, I was still very sweaty as my shirt was still sticking to me between my skin and the mesh. Overall, I'm disappointed that this pack didn't work out, especially since I've heard such great things about Osprey products. But I'm grateful that I took it on a shorter trip to test it out first. If you decide to purchase this pack, I recommend first trying it on a shorter outing to make sure it works for you.

Pack is robust and well built but cushioning could be improved
11 August 2023

Like with most Osprey packs I've tried on, the build is solid and the materials are excellent. However, the cushioning on the hip belt is virtually none and especially towards the edges where it feels sharp that it digs into my hips. If you're particularly bony or have wide hips compared to your waist, this causes rubbing, chaffing and sore spots very easily. I usually have to place a sock between my hips and belt to make it more comfortable but I wish Osprey would add more padding all around the edges so that it fits more snug and padded comfort, especially for packs larger than 55L, you're going to be carrying 17kg+ so it'd squash any light padding down to nothing on the first go.There are a bit too many straps that I'd like to be able to remove such as the inner ... MoreLike with most Osprey packs I've tried on, the build is solid and the materials are excellent. It'd be good to also have removable hip pockets as I rarely use them.Seven Horizons were great to use and delivery was excellent.

Renn 65 vs. Ariel 65
13 April 2022

I have an osprey ariel 65 and was looking to downsize to the renn and save about a pound. Renn was nice, and I was willing to cut back on all the bells and whistles that the Ariel affords. But when I loaded the Renn up with 30-35 lbs., it quickly became evident that the Renn wasn’t going to cut it. This pack tops out around that weight and it showed. Pack didn’t ride comfortably with that weight, shoulder straps pulled down and the hip belt, though situated well on my hips tranfserred pressure to the tops of my pelvis. I think if you are really traveling light, under 30 pounds this pack could work well. I will keep my Ariel 65 for my bigger treks with heavier loads. The Ariel 65 is highly adjustable, supremely comfortable and will carry the heaviest loads. I believe ... MoreI have an osprey ariel 65 and was looking to downsize to the renn and save about a pound. Anything more I would go with the beefier and better structured Ariel 65

West Highland Way tested !
22 October 2022

I bought this pack for a 30 day trip and for a 150Km hike in the Scottish Highlands. I was impressed by the amount of equipment I was able to hold and how the weight was distributed. It survived every condition including mud, rain and frost. My only issue with this pack is the pain on my collarbones . I used a sweater and stuffed it between the straps and my collarbones for extra cushioning and after a few days I developed bruising in the area but by the last day of the trip I felt I had broken it in enough that I didn’t need additional cushioning. Great bag overall.
