The compartment is tight at the top but roomy if you dont have anything in the pack yet. With the pack loaded, the most I could squeeze in was 1L and with some difficulty. When the pack is empty I can easily load my 3L bladder.

Good concept, but few major downsides

The Deuter Sportlite Daypack is a nice concept, however, I find the design pretty poor.25 liters is a good size for a daypack: Extra gear (if needed) can be fit in this backpack with plenty room to spare. The hip belt pockets are another positive aspect of this pack, enabling small items (snacks, lipbalm, sunscreen, etc. ) to be easily accessible. The division into 3 compartments (excluding the separate water reservoir back panel) is also a nice concept: You can sort your items however you like, there is a smaller top pocket and two bigger compartments, the center bigger compartment has two additional pockets for extra organization. The side mesh pockets are also fairly generous: You can fit quite big water bottles securely in there (I used a 1-liter Smartwater ... MoreThe Deuter Sportlite Daypack is a nice concept, however, I find the design pretty poor.25 liters is a good size for a daypack: Extra gear (if needed) can be fit in this backpack with plenty room to spare. The water reservoir concept. There is a special compartment designed just for your water reservoir. As opposed to traditional packs, where the water reservoir is located in the main body of the pack, the Osprey Sportlite 25 has a compartment right behind the back panel, which is supposed to fit your water bladder. This was probably designed this way so the water bladder does not interfere/ take space away from the main body of the pack, yet a new problem occurs with this design: A full water bladder pushes against your back panel. When wearing this pack with my water bladder filled, it was immensely pressing against my (lower) back, causing the air circulation/ back ventilation to worsen drastically. I was sweating more than usual, which was uncomfortable on longer or more challenging adventures.2.) The back ventilation (This is partly a consequence of Nr. 1).There is no significant ventilation concept on this pack, which is probably a consequence of this pack reducing weight as much as possible (as this is supposed to be a lightweight daypack). There is merely a mesh panel at the back, which would be fine, but paired with the water reservoir concept it provides insufficient ventilation. If you sweat more than the average person or are doing more strenuous activities and want to have the possibility of using a water reservoir (with a clever design), I would not recommend this pack to you.

I impulse-bought this bag because I liked the color, and ended up loving it and will use it as my go-to day pack. It’s the perfect size, the multiple compartments keep everything nice and organized, and the combo of open stretch and zippered hip pocket is awesome - I struggle sometimes with the zipper so the stretch one is good for things I’m frequently pulling out!I wanted to respond to the review about it not working for hiking poles - flip them around! I put mine in handle-down and it works just fine, and no worries about the tip poking through the mesh!I subtracted a star for not having a good spot to externally store a rain cover.Good for other purposes too… I travel for work and it works just fine for carrying my laptop and other airplane carry-on ... MoreI impulse-bought this bag because I liked the color, and ended up loving it and will use it as my go-to day pack. Great pack for a short hike
20 August 2023

I have and love the Tempest 20, which is great for a hike of 4-5 hours. If I’m just going for a couple of hours I prefer something simpler and without waist compartments, which I find rub against my bare arms in summer. I do wish it had a port for the bladder hose but it can be threaded through the zipper pulls for extra security.Love that the hip straps are removable. Not as comfortable a carry or as breathable as the Tempest 20, but my shirt always ends up wet regardless even with the Tempest. Can’t work miracles! For 1-3 hours in uncomplicated conditions it’s perfect. Beautiful design, colours, and quality.

Highly Recommend!

I am exceedingly happy with this pack. Just hiked 11 miles into The Wave and was comfortable the entire 10 hour day, rock scrambling and all. The hip belt is perfect for offloading at the shoulders and the various zipper pouches are great for accessing different gear. Though it doesn’t come with a hydration pack, it does have the area for a 3L and hose feed loop at the shoulder. Overall, highly recommend! Note: I am a 5’4” woman and this pack fit great!

PERFECT for long day hikes
28 June 2023

This is by far my favorite day pack I have ever used. I’ve done day hikes up to 16 miles long with this bag and I have absolutely no complaints. The pack is super lightweight and durable. I use the water compartment for my Osprey hydration reservoir and it works perfectly. I can also fit an extra layer, lunch box, snacks, extra water and my hammock/straps with plenty of room to spare. Some people like super rigid and structured packs so if you prefer that type of design then this probably isn’t for you. Me personally, I love that it’s more flexible, makes for easier and quicker movement on the trail. Definitely recommend!

Perfect day pack
6 August 2023

I got this to replace a talon 22 just because I was tired of the color and I love it! (Got the purple one) I normally have to buy men’s packs because I have a long torso but the large was just right! I love the 3 separate zippered pockets and the stretchy stuff pocket. The hip belt is great and better than most smaller daypacks. My iPhone 13 fits in the left one perfectly even in the case! It has more than enough room for day hikes for my rain jack and puffy jacket, seat pad, snacks etc and it is very comfortable. I don’t use a water bladder, I prefer bottles and the side pockets are deep enough and secure tightly. I am very happy with this pack!

Returning

I was excited to upgrade to a 25l pack. I have the talon 11 and love how comfortable it is, but needed something slightly bigger for shoulder and winter seasons and for traveling ( I am comparing this to the talon 22). I really wanted to love this pack but find it is lacking a few things in order to keep it. The space is great and offers a lot more storage than the talon 22 however, 1) no rain cover included and no separate area to store it 2) the side pockets are extremely small. With cell phones getting bigger, a larger hip pocket would have been appreciated and the open top one will barely fit a snack bar or buff. As others mentioned most of the hip pocket is also covered by the strap which makes it smaller than intended. A obvious design flaw. 3) the trekking ... MoreI was excited to upgrade to a 25l pack. I can’t use them with the baskets on the pole or the rubber tip. On a hike, this will be time consuming to remove the baskets and/or tips in order to stow the poles 4) the shoulder straps and hip belt could use just a little more padding. I realize it’s a lighter pack, but the talon is much more comfortable. Overall the pack is “ok”. It has a few design flaws that should be rectified on the next version and I’m unsure how comfortable it will be on long day hikes (I usually go out for 10-12 miles).

I haven't put this pack through it's paces on a long trek yet, but it's been great for day hiking "trial runs" so far. I love the exterior access for the hydration pack, the hip belt w/zip pocket and pouch (so nice after a useless waist belt on my last day pack!), the trekking pole loops (a new feature for me), and that the compartments are perfect for my packing style. I feel like it's just the right amount of organization for me... Separate spots for layers, snacks, and other gear, without any fiddly bits. a nearly perfect pack

I got this pack to do a R2R2R of the Grand Canyon. It was the perfect size for the 2 day hike. My favorite feature was how it compressed down after the first day's worth of food was gone, which made it comfortable and not swing around with the excess room. The variety of different pockets made it really simple to compartmentalize the different things I packed, so I was able to find everything when I needed to without digging to the bottom of my pack or pulling everything out. My primary complaint is that the hip belt pockets weren't big enough to comfortably fit my cell phone, and the pockets were set far enough back that it was an inconvenient reach to pull snacks out of them. I ended up purchasing theOsprey Hydraulics Sternum Strap and Tube Magnet Kit to go with my hydration system as there isn't a great option for clipping the hose otherwise, but I did like that the bladder rested in an entirely separate pouch so that there was that extra bit of protection between the things inside the pack and the water bladder. I ended up drenching myself multiple times during the hike because of the heat, and despite getting fairly wet, all of my things inside the pack remained dry. Overall way more comfortable than any pack has a right to be over 44 miles!
