I recently upgraded to this pack from an extremely old Coleman hiking pack. The main features I was looking for were multiple and variety of compartments, expandable water bottle holders, and a front loading pocket. It fits quite a lot which is a plus. A few downsides were that the hip belt felt a bit odd on me. The belt expanded just fine but the pockets were offset towards the back which made me feel like I was too big initially. The hip belt pockets were perfect for chapstick, folded maps, and a small protein bar. I even ended up putting my hiking pole caps in the mesh holder. The pockets are too small however for your cell phone which was a bummer but not a huge deal. Another downside is that there isnt really great hiking pole loops. I bought my own bungee cords but Im not 100% a fan and will likely rig something else for my next hike that is a bit more easy and quick to use. The external water reservoir panel is nice (when your bladder isnt filled to capacity) but note, you cant get away with using other brand bladder. Overall, I do really enjoy the pack.

This backpack is aweseome! I got it for a recent hiking trip to Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks, because my other hiking backpack was too big, uncomfortable, and only had one pocket. I saw this in REI and bought it after wearing it around the store while I browsed, loving how comfortable it felt.I had major spinal fusion surgery back in 2018 that leaves 70% of my back immobile, and I can't rely on it to carry much weight as it causees a lot of pain. The hip belts on this backpack are very comfortable and widely adjustable (I'm very thin so usually I can't tighten things all the way), and it helps shift the weight of my backpack to my hips instead of my back and shoulders, which makes hikes a lot more bearable. The two side water bottle pockets are awesome and fits my 1.2L water bottle with ease, and this thing never fits anywhere. They are very deep, so I'm not worried about anything falling out. I also love that it has multiple pockets and even mesh pockets within the main compartments. I am able to fit small loose things in the smallest pocket, like medication, chapstick, and small snacks, and I can fit my cameras in the front main pocket. I don't use the resovoir pocket for a water bladder, but it does fit my light rain jacket perfectly without taking up too much space. On my day hikes, this thing is a breeze to use, and I can't wait to try it on something that requires more gear, because I'm sure this will be able to handle it just fine. I also sweat a lot when I hike, and the ventilation on this is great in the back too.I recently went to Mount Rainier and Olympic National Parks, and after seeing my backpack, my dad wanted something similar for himself. He knows how difficult it can be for me to carry a backpack like this for longer distances, and seeing how easily I was able to move with this convinced him. This is definitely the most versastile and comfortable hiking backpack I own, and it is less expensive than other similar backpacks. I highly recommend this if you want something that is in the middle of the road in terms of how much you can store, while still being able to complete longer hikes.

The compartment is tight at the top but roomy if you dont have anything in the pack yet. With the pack loaded, the most I could squeeze in was 1L and with some difficulty. When the pack is empty I can easily load my 3L bladder.

The Deuter Sportlite Daypack is a nice concept, however, I find the design pretty poor.25 liters is a good size for a daypack: Extra gear (if needed) can be fit in this backpack with plenty room to spare. The hip belt pockets are another positive aspect of this pack, enabling small items (snacks, lipbalm, sunscreen, etc. ) to be easily accessible. The division into 3 compartments (excluding the separate water reservoir back panel) is also a nice concept: You can sort your items however you like, there is a smaller top pocket and two bigger compartments, the center bigger compartment has two additional pockets for extra organization. The side mesh pockets are also fairly generous: You can fit quite big water bottles securely in there (I used a 1-liter Smartwater ... MoreThe Deuter Sportlite Daypack is a nice concept, however, I find the design pretty poor.25 liters is a good size for a daypack: Extra gear (if needed) can be fit in this backpack with plenty room to spare. The water reservoir concept. There is a special compartment designed just for your water reservoir. As opposed to traditional packs, where the water reservoir is located in the main body of the pack, the Osprey Sportlite 25 has a compartment right behind the back panel, which is supposed to fit your water bladder. This was probably designed this way so the water bladder does not interfere/ take space away from the main body of the pack, yet a new problem occurs with this design: A full water bladder pushes against your back panel. When wearing this pack with my water bladder filled, it was immensely pressing against my (lower) back, causing the air circulation/ back ventilation to worsen drastically. I was sweating more than usual, which was uncomfortable on longer or more challenging adventures.2.) The back ventilation (This is partly a consequence of Nr. 1).There is no significant ventilation concept on this pack, which is probably a consequence of this pack reducing weight as much as possible (as this is supposed to be a lightweight daypack). There is merely a mesh panel at the back, which would be fine, but paired with the water reservoir concept it provides insufficient ventilation. If you sweat more than the average person or are doing more strenuous activities and want to have the possibility of using a water reservoir (with a clever design), I would not recommend this pack to you.
I impulse-bought this bag because I liked the color, and ended up loving it and will use it as my go-to day pack. It’s the perfect size, the multiple compartments keep everything nice and organized, and the combo of open stretch and zippered hip pocket is awesome - I struggle sometimes with the zipper so the stretch one is good for things I’m frequently pulling out!I wanted to respond to the review about it not working for hiking poles - flip them around! I put mine in handle-down and it works just fine, and no worries about the tip poking through the mesh!I subtracted a star for not having a good spot to externally store a rain cover.Good for other purposes too… I travel for work and it works just fine for carrying my laptop and other airplane carry-on ... MoreI impulse-bought this bag because I liked the color, and ended up loving it and will use it as my go-to day pack. I love the sport lite 25 having just used it for a week skiing. I previously had a 35l Talon; it was just too large & I didn't like the only smaller pocket for valuables/easy access items being in the lid as it made the lid top heavy. The sportlite has solved this with a smaller quick access pocket at the front, plus net pockets at the top of the full height second compartment. This means you have plenty of space for easy access items of all sizes. There's an additional larger compartment at the back where you can stash all the stuff you need less frequently, but because it's got a separate zip you avoid having to pull everything out to get to it. Both belt straps have pockets, though only one has a zip - if I were to change anything I'd have zips on both pockets. It does not come with a rain cover but I'm not bothered about that. The fabric is water resistant and seems pretty hard wearing.I'm 5'4" and went for the S/M size which is a great fit and overall it's a very comfortable. I also really like the aubergine colour.
This is by far my favorite day pack I have ever used. I’ve done day hikes up to 16 miles long with this bag and I have absolutely no complaints. The pack is super lightweight and durable. I use the water compartment for my Osprey hydration reservoir and it works perfectly. I can also fit an extra layer, lunch box, snacks, extra water and my hammock/straps with plenty of room to spare. Some people like super rigid and structured packs so if you prefer that type of design then this probably isn’t for you. Me personally, I love that it’s more flexible, makes for easier and quicker movement on the trail. Definitely recommend!
I was excited to upgrade to a 25l pack. I have the talon 11 and love how comfortable it is, but needed something slightly bigger for shoulder and winter seasons and for traveling ( I am comparing this to the talon 22). I really wanted to love this pack but find it is lacking a few things in order to keep it. The space is great and offers a lot more storage than the talon 22 however, 1) no rain cover included and no separate area to store it 2) the side pockets are extremely small. With cell phones getting bigger, a larger hip pocket would have been appreciated and the open top one will barely fit a snack bar or buff. As others mentioned most of the hip pocket is also covered by the strap which makes it smaller than intended. A obvious design flaw. 3) the trekking ... MoreI was excited to upgrade to a 25l pack. I can’t use them with the baskets on the pole or the rubber tip. On a hike, this will be time consuming to remove the baskets and/or tips in order to stow the poles 4) the shoulder straps and hip belt could use just a little more padding. I realize it’s a lighter pack, but the talon is much more comfortable. Overall the pack is “ok”. It has a few design flaws that should be rectified on the next version and I’m unsure how comfortable it will be on long day hikes (I usually go out for 10-12 miles).
The only reason why this pack didn't get 5 stars is because it doesn't include a rain cover like the Osprey Hikelite 26 Pack. I needed a bit more capacity and liked the hip built better than the Hikelite (which my wife bought.) Just returned from hiking a leg of the Camino Del Norte trail in Spain. The pack was the pefect size for day hikes. It has two external water bottle holders that are easy to access and the multiple compartments made it easy to organize gear without overloading. We had two days of consistent rain on the trail and I'm glad that I ordered the rain cover through another vendor: Hi-Vis Raincover Small, since REI doesn't carry this mode. Without it, my gear would have been soaked. The fabric is water resistant but only to a point.
I got this pack to do a R2R2R of the Grand Canyon. It was the perfect size for the 2 day hike. My favorite feature was how it compressed down after the first day's worth of food was gone, which made it comfortable and not swing around with the excess room. The variety of different pockets made it really simple to compartmentalize the different things I packed, so I was able to find everything when I needed to without digging to the bottom of my pack or pulling everything out. My primary complaint is that the hip belt pockets weren't big enough to comfortably fit my cell phone, and the pockets were set far enough back that it was an inconvenient reach to pull snacks out of them. Not a deal breaker, but worth mentioning for folks who like having easy access. I ended ... MoreI got this pack to do a R2R2R of the Grand Canyon. It was the perfect size for the 2 day hike. I ended up purchasing theOsprey Hydraulics Sternum Strap and Tube Magnet Kit to go with my hydration system as there isn't a great option for clipping the hose otherwise, but I did like that the bladder rested in an entirely separate pouch so that there was that extra bit of protection between the things inside the pack and the water bladder. I ended up drenching myself multiple times during the hike because of the heat, and despite getting fairly wet, all of my things inside the pack remained dry. Overall way more comfortable than any pack has a right to be over 44 miles!
