I am a huge fan of Osprey bags for camping/hiking/etc. This one is no different. It is a great bag that is really well designed and really well constructed. It is a great hiking backpack but can definitely be used on a day to day. The only word of warning I would give (which is actually a compliment), is that you have to be careful to find the right fit. It is amazing that they make this backpack in multiple sizes, and make a women's version in multiple sizes too. Once you find the right one for you it will fit perfectly. Not many backpacks make different sizes to find the perfect fit. Bravo Osprey!

There's a lot to unpack here (yeah I said it) so I'll bullet stuff.- 3 zip-shut storage areas- 1 water bladder pocket- 2 water bottle slots (sides)- 1 rear stowage quick access pocket- 2 zipper hip pockets- 1 tiny arm loop pocket (for maybe a pocket knife for flashlight)- Light but sturdy material- Adjustable shoulder straps let you adjust the sitting height- Plenty of straps to tighten down your load- Trekking pole loopsThe only thing I'd really honestly say needs improvement is just the trekking pole loop. It's an adjustable loop that uses a stretchy elastic cord that's in a loop and tightened with one of those plastic tension clips. After 30 minutes or so of hiking the poles would wiggle lose and would flop around. It didn't matter much since I used the poles most of the hike but if I wanted them put away I'd have to tighten them down every 30 minutes.

This backpack is exactly what I was looking for. I use it as my everyday back to and from work and there is more than enough space for that. When my family and I go on excursions it holds all the necessities and some. I have two young boys and it keeps all their stuff (Diaper's, bottles and toys) and mine with ease. I was surprised to see that the outer flexible sleeve will hold my 64oz hydro flask as well. The pack is extremely comfortable and the build in back support makes all the difference in the world. I anticipated having a sore back from carrying a heavy back but the back support and straps do all the work for me. I have used the ice pick holder as a fishing pole holder and it fits like a dream. Highly recommend this pack!!

So I looked at this pack side by side with my current Talon 22 (a couple years old model), last years model, and this new one. The newest version doesn't feel as solid or as quality, maybe it's the recycled material. The new pack's shoulder padding feels flimsy compared to last years. Additionally the top accessory pocket and the interior accessory pocket feel like they are either smaller or sewn tighter. After looking more closely the top panel zippered slash pocket is definitely smaller than previous year versions. In the older version the internal pocket was sewn onto the larger top panel packet. Now the top panel is just as small as the internal pocket. The two pockets are essentially two sides of the same pouch with a divider. Terrible change on Ospreys part and I hope the next redesign goes back to the larger pocket. The water bottle pockets on the sides appear to be deeper however. While I really like the new grey color, I will not be upgrading anytime soon. I do wish that one of the accessory pockets had a little more organization capability, similar to the Daylight Plus, but I know this pack is supposed to me more minimalist. I wouldn't recommend this pack if you can wait for the next iteration and hope they improve the pockets.
I have an older Talon 22 pack from 10 years ago, I love this pack, but decided it was time for an upgrade. I saw them available at the last REI sale in a great neon green color and nabbed one. Just got back from a 12 day road trip with aggressive hiking in many state and national parks. This pack just doesn't hold up like the old one. I had great difficulty inserting a filled 1.5 liter, 2 Liter or 3 liter hydration bladder in the sleeve. My old pack has no problems, but this was a battle every time. Once the bladder is in, the weight of it collapsed and bent the support across the top so that it was very difficult to access the top zipper pocket. The structural support across the top has a permanent bend in it now because it can't hold the weight of a full bladder. ... MoreI have an older Talon 22 pack from 10 years ago, I love this pack, but decided it was time for an upgrade. Luckily I had my old Exos 34 on the trip as well, so after a week switched to that so that I could have a reliable backpack. You guys ruined what was the best travel backpack and one day hiking backpack. This was a big downgrade. Glad my old Talon 22 is still in serviceable condition
I recently took this pack on day hikes in Glacier NP and Grand Teton (roughly 50 miles in total hiking with this bag). It is a quality bag for day hikes and very comfortable once adjusted. My main issue with the pack is the badder design. I already had a 3L Osprey water bladder, so I chose this pack for brand/connection compatibility. However, I was very disappointed with how this pack held up when using the bladder feature. First off, the bladder is very hard to remove/insert into the hydration pack compartment— full or empty. Second, when full and tied in, the weight of the hydration pack causes the top of the backpack to collapse in on itself since the structure in this part of the pack is just some sort of firm board rather than connected to the frame. I bought this pack to replace my old Talon 22, which ripped at the front after 8-9 years of heavy use. I loved that pack so much I successfully urged my partner to get one roughly 5 years ago. This is in no way comparable to the other two older packs. For starters, it is much smaller in terms of useful space. I barely had room for a light jacket, a larger pair of binoculars, and a couple snacks. Secondly, the hydration sleeve is frustratingly small. Be prepared to spend an extra 10 minutes trying to get a bladder in. Lastly, the material is lighter and cheaper feeling. I don't imagine this one lasting even 10% of the old one.Since that first pack, I've been an Osprey devotee. Both my partner's and my backpacking bags are also Osprey. I had the "M/L (48-58mm) older size and this one is listed as "M/L/XL (48-58mm)" on the tag on the back edge. The new bag is narrower (left to right) and maybe a touch longer (top to bottom). The top zip pocket (where you keep keys and small items) is way smaller in the newer model to my disappointment. I when I slide in a standard 14" laptop, the new bag is just barely able to span for this while the old bag it few well. The new bag does have larger side mesh pockets for wider water bottles and now fits a Nalgene, the old one did not. The left shoulder stretchy pocket is now a folded over pocket with a button to snap it closed. I keep my wireless headphones in it. However the snap always pops free from normal moving so I worry that the headphones are less secure. ... MoreI had the "M/L (48-58mm) older size and this one is listed as "M/L/XL (48-58mm)" on the tag on the back edge. One really surprising thing is I have had the bag two months and the Osprey logo has already warn off the top of the bag (above the helmet holder). I guess they don't want to advertise their product :-)The rest of the bag is well made and the stitching is top notch.
I started walking back and forth to work (only 1.3 miles each way, but with a big hill in the middle) and wanted a comfortable backpack to use. This looked good but it's even better than I realized. It's probably more backpack than I need but I think it's great. So far the most I've worn it is a little over an hour. It is really comfortable on my back and the waist and chest straps really help to make it extra cozy. The back part is adjustable so you can really customize it for your body. I'm 5'4" with short legs so I got the S/M size and it's fine.I can fit a thin hat in one of the waist pockets and cowl in the other so it's nice to have those things handy. I have a big phone so that doesn't fit into either of the waist pockets or the strap pocket. I have a big phone so that doesn't fit into either of the waist pockets or the strap pocket. The main compartment is a good size for me; I put my purse and sometimes my lunch in there if I can pack it down small. There are water bottle pockets on the side. I would take this on a day hike but I don't do any serious (multi-day) hikes or backpacking so I don't know how this would work for that.I didn't realize how many features this thing had until I looked it up on youtube. The zipper pulls are nice, there is a secret whistle built into the chest strap and you can attach things like hiking poles, a bicycle helmet, a little light and an ice axe if you like! I want to get an ice axe just now just so I can attach it even though I don't think I would get much use here in San Francisco. I think it also has a lifetime warranty.
Make sure you carefully measure yourself based on the size chart instructions and order the right size backpack. This is my first non-Amazon backpack, and the reason they're so comfortable is that they're fitted. I previously got a womens large of a different model and went with a L/XL here. This pack stands out for the variety of pockets available. There's a stretchy pocket out the back and another stretchy pocket on the shoulder strap (if you want to stow a snack, small bottle, etc. Not sure this would fit a phone). There's a zippered pocket on the inside with a key ring. And finally there's a zippered top pocket, similar to a goggle pocket on a ski touring pack. Finally, I'm really stoked there's two side hip strap pockets.
