I use a 50 liter camera backpack and wanted something light. This is unbelievable how much gear i can bring holding a lense, binoculars, teleconverter in main, plus gaiters, but also bars or snacks. Then in outside mesh put keys, wallet, other small not accessed items. Left side camera batteries, memory cards, microfiber cloths, lens pen, shower cap if rains. Right side pocket i put tissues, off repellant wipes, sanitiser, a ponch plastic that folds small for rain and my squeeze packs, energy electrolyte chews etc. I then put two 32 oz water bottles in holders, clip my thermocell to back strap flap area and camera with lens is over shoulder with black rapid so to Change to small lens for landscape I leave big 2-600 on black rapid. I got this because (for a very long ski vacation) in the Methow I forgot my Arc T'trex waist pack that I have used for about 15 years which was great.I used this for the first time today so cannot comment on its longevity, but found it to be very well designed and comfortable.The waist band adjustment is done by buckles on both sides of the front of the pack. You can see them in one of the photos on this page. This works much better than adjusting a single buckle in the middle of the belt. It is much more comfortable for carrying the bare essentials than a little backpack.Also, I didn't really want to buy the skinny bottles it's holders are made for so I smooshed my regular-sized 32oz nalgenes in it. It's tight and the seams might end up stretching a bit, but it seems very sturdy and will be fine. I was tired of carrying traditional packs for short hikes in the heat. I wanted a mid-sized waist/lumbar pack that held two water bottles and had easy-access pockets in the straps. The Talon 6L had all the features I wanted. So far I’ve taken it on at least 5 hikes in the hot summer weather. The hikes were up to 5 miles on moderate to strenuous terrain. The pack was comfortable and did not shift during use, It held two full medium bottles of water, a first aid kit, epi pen, and other items. It allowed me to complete the hike without feeling overheated. Best of all, I could easily grab either bottle with moving or removing the pack. I highly recommend the Talon.
This is an outstanding product for dog-walking. I volunteer at a local shelter, and take many of their dogs on outings. This waist pack is ideal for carrying a supply of treats in the zippered side pockets, and two 16oz vacu-flasks of ice-cold water in the bottle-holders at the back (they're not big enough to hold 1-litre flasks, but I've found that 16 oz is fine for my purposes). I can even attach a collapsible plastic bowl onto one of the loops using a small carabiner, and there's room for other items - for me or for my companion - in the large back pocket. Since the side-pockets are zippered - and easily closed or opened on the move - the dogs can't get their snouts into them to get at the treats, but I can get the treats out so easily because of the way they are ... MoreThis is an outstanding product for dog-walking. The blue is OK, but Osprey also makes it in Black and in Green; why can't they be made available too?
Love this pack. Roomy enough for everything I need on short day hikes. I purchased the only color in store and was assured by two separate store associates that the pack is unisex. I am 5'6" and wgt 125 with a slim athletic build and the pack fits perfectly. Most of the time I didn't feel the pack on my hips, that's how comfy it is. It held my wallet, phone and two water bottles, and later in the hike as the day warmed, I attached my gloves and jacket. It also held my hiking sticks for part of the hike. I wish I had purchased a long time ago.
This waistpack has a ton of room which is good and bad. Good because you can load it up, bad, because you can load it up. So be careful how much weight you get into this guy or you'll find yourself having lower back discomfort after about 5 miles. Overall:Great hip belt pockets - ample for snacks, cell phone, headlamp, GPS, etc.Great water bottle "pockets" for 750ml smart water bottles - easy accessGreat exterior pocket for TP, wallet, key, etc.A bit heavy for a waistpack but if you're heading out for 15-20 miles it's awesome to be able to stuff a mid layer, rain jacket, beanie, snacks, headlamp, etc for the day and this does the trick without the need for carrying a full day pack.
The Osprey Talon 6 was brought to my attention by the Epic Centre Instagram page. I put trust in tbe products that Epic Centre stock and wasn't disappointed. The Osprey Talon 6 was perfect for the day hike planned and meant that shoulder straps weren't necessary. Yay. Looking forward to many more adventures using this product. It does not appear to be removeable, although the underside of a zipper is visible which could possibly be used for this purpose (though the talon is sewn into an inner space).I tried this lumbar pack for two day-long mountain hikes, using it primarily to carry a pair of lightweight insulated water bottles (GSI Microlite 570s). Throughout the hikes I could feel what I think was the bottom edge of the stiffener pressing against my hips. Just touching them, even by accident, sends the entire belt whipping through, dropping the pack. This doesn't happen if the pack is empty, but with the weight of two water bottles it's an all too frequent occurence.
I had to buy an Osprey Talon after seeing my friend use one on a day hike! I think he uses it for mountain biking but it’s perfect for getting through a long hike. I use the straps to buckle my hat/boots. The pockets are great for holding a little snack/phone/wallet/keys, and I prefer the bottle holders over the hydration packs, as they’re easier to clean. The only downside: the water bottle holders are not large enough for a 32 oz nalgene, but it’s a very small complaint.
