I really like these. Now that the trails abound with greenery, I have found I don't really like some of the overgrowth to touch my legs. I was excited to try out my new Ferrosi Thru Gaiters. But, just like my previous pair, the elastic cord that holds the band under the shoe broke on one side the first time I tried to put them on. But, since I wasn't trying to keep anything out this trip, I pressed on. I have big girl calves so I wasn't sure these would stay up. They did!! The one that worked, worked great. And the one that broke served it's purpose for the day. If I can get a pair that the elastic won't break, these would be awesome.

I bought these to use over my trail runners and approach shoes. They are light, comfortable and keep things out of my shoes very nicely on trips where a full gaiter is too much. I do like them, but have had some challenges and issues.Tips: first, remember to put the gaiter on before your shoes! I find it helpful to unhook one side of the foot strap, then hook the foot strap on fully over the shoe. Otherwise you risk popping the foot strap if you try to just slide it over the shoe without unhooking. Secondly, the lace hook doesn't work well with all my laces. Flat shoelaces like my Altras, or speed laces like my Salomons they work fine, the round laces like on my La Sportiva approach shoes (Tx3/Tx4) it is very difficult to get the hook on and off the shoelace. On ... MoreI bought these to use over my trail runners and approach shoes. I didn't notice until a little further along and wasn't able to find it. This also pulled the elastic cording out of the stitching and the lace hook was gone. I was able to very easily re-route the elastic back in and stitch it. I reinforced the stitching on the other gaiter, assuming it would also tear out. I bought new foot straps, but unfortunately OR does *not* make the lace hook available for purchase or to mail out as a warranty item. That's frustrating, as I had to make my own lace loop out of some velcro. A less crafty person would just be out the gaiters at this point.

I was excited to be replacing my previous OR light weight summer gaiters and I wanted to love these, but I had to return them. The new placement hooks don't work easily with my boot laces or even with its own lace. I spent a long time trying to get the hooks over my laces-being plastic hooks they can not be pried open a bit more, and it was even difficult to hook onto its own side elastic. The drawstring at the top of the ankles left the fit baggy & floppy. It took 20 minutes to get my gaiters off my boots. Imagine a water crossing with taking these in & off? I will continue to use my traditional heavier weight OR gaiters since it's getting cold and will look for products changes hopefully before next summer.

Was in the hunt for a pair of gaiters that were light and packable, and versatile enough to keep the snow out of my boots on early season hikes, and the rocks out on later summer ones. These fit the bill! I've had them out on two hikes so far, and am very pleased. They fit well over my hiking boots. I'm a size 7 (women's) and the medium gaiters were the right pairing. If I were wearing them with runners, I would need the small. The fabric - while light and somewhat flexible - seems to stand-up well to rocks and brush. I think the shorter height of these gaiters will be great once we hit the summer heat. Super pleased!
Works as advertised and really lightweight. Two minor issues are reason for only 4 stars. First, you have to put them on before your shoes as they can't slide over. And second, the hook clasp that connects the front to the laces is hard to get unhooked when you take them off. I've used on both the La Sportiva Ultra Raptor trail runner and the La Sportiva TX4 approach both of which have thick round laces. Even with these minor inconveniences they still work great keeping water, rocks and other debris out of your shoes when off trail or scrambling on scree.
My boyfriend and I both had a pair of these on a ~550km 22-day thru-hike in the Canadian Rockies. 3 out of 4 of the gaiters broke in the first 20km (1 miraculously held until the end). It was the cord that runs through the bottom of the gaiter that broke, rendering the underfoot strap useless. This is super disappointing as I really expect more from OR gear, especially at this price. Also, the velcro both came off on my shoes by the end of the trip. I don't expect lightweight gear to be survive almost 600k but it should definitely last longer than 20k - that's not even a trail runner's daily distance.
I use the heck out of these things. They are very light weight, and as such can be a bit fragile. But mine have held up well. Have tweaked them a bit, as the strap that goes under the boot have both broken. But again, because I use the heck out of them. Replaced with p-cord, and they work fine. I like the lightweighness of these, heavier ones make my ankles react, heat rash. These do not. I have 3 pair now!
These may be a cute accessory for a shopping trip and a latte but they are clearly not up to actual hiking. The second day I had them on the elastic thread (yes - it is THREAD) holding the entire thing together broke. I would have repaired them but the hook for the shoelace was lost in the vegetation. They are now garbage - actually they were quite clearly garbage to begin with - unfortunately garbage that someone paid decent money for (was a gift) I strongly suggest OR test stuff like this before selling it for a purpose it is not at all suited for. You do know that trails are not sidewalks, right? I mean - there are sticks that get caught in things like ELASTIC THREAD and can break it.
I am so ready to hit the trails with these mid-gaitors. I wear a 9.5 women's and have had trouble finding the right size for my shoes. Most small/medium are too small and this one actually is a bit big for my running shoes, but will work great for my hikers. I may just have to get a pair of low-style for my running shoes. These are so light and pack up great. I can't wait to use them!
I purchased these gaiters to do two things while doing biological work in sagebrush country:1. Keep ticks out of my pants2. Keep cheatgrass out of my shoelacesI am glad to report that they have performed very well in regards to the list. I am worried that the dense sagebrush and fencing will eventually rip a hole into the material. However, it has a nice stretch that has resisted getting caught on any shrubs/barbed wire so far. The strap on the bottom is starting to wear a bit (~ 1 month of heavy use) and some stitching is getting pulled, but that's to be expected in rocky terrain. Overall I like these gaiters a lot.
